I agree, if only my boss was so kind and encouraging, I would do MUCH better and feel much better about my productivity. I am a high school English teacher (reading and writing, not the actual teaching of the language, for all the folks not in the US.).
@maruiacancerc So sorry to hear about your health issues. I can relate to a degree, 2 open heart surgeries and a one stroke. It’s a long recovery. Hope your cancer was found early enough for a good outcome. Best of luck to you.
As a master gardener I have been dying to see the convent gardens - last year's clean up was so exciting and many interesting features were uncovered. Selfishly I wish equal time could be given to the garden and grounds as there is to the interior. The garden restoration project could be a new channel entirely for Billy and friends.
Definitely exciting. I keep thinking that there might be master gardeners (my mother in law was one, studied plant grafting at a botanic garden, among other things), who might volunteer, with helpers, to restore much of the gardens, once the heavy clearing is done. Another Petherick's You Tube channel??? I see the fruit trees, etc., especially since Alex has been filming, & wonder if they could be "saved."
Billy should borrow a small group of goats and an electric fence. They would clear the entire garden, brambles and all in a couple weeks. Free labour and you are feeding goats. We used goats and donkeys at our chateau. Cheers!
@@holymoly6829 but simon did say his videos would be 9n Billy's channel tho' so we should get to see it all. Love these old stone buildings and old buildings in general!
I’ve noticed that Ryan is way more’ sedate ‘ when Billy isn’t around…. Shows just what a close friendship they have to be able to joke around ❤ Simon - now there’s a mind I’d love to pick ! He’s so calm , so Zen ! I’d love to know more about him 🙏 Yannis - your English is getting better every day 🎉. Love to know more about you too !!
It was awesome seeing the knowledge presented by Simon. It was also nice to hear Janis speaking English for once, directly at the camera. Billy should be proud of both Simon and Janis!
Simon and Yanis actually melt my heart, matching outfits and the bromance is so father son it’s adorable. The confidence in Yanis English now. Amazing. Will miss watching Simon when his stay is finished. Change your mind Simon and don’t leave.
@@YaaLFH 6 weeks isn't it, without a residency permit? I imagine with his skills if he wanted to move to France they would welcome him if he does want to live in France.
I have happy tears as Simon said "well done mate" to Yannis....you're a good man Simon and Yannis is as well. That was absolutely heart warming. Thank you all!
I’ve just realized that Ryan is an amazing host and announcer. I’ve been enjoying the last few shows. (Still love you, Billy and looking forward for you to be back from holiday, but I think Ryan may have found his calling!)
@@daisylovelock9553 I know. Been watching his channel for a very long time. This is different. It’s his tone and presence the last few days and the role he’s playing.
The stone that you've found with the netch in it. It is called a grotto it would have had a statue of the Virgin. We had one on the family farm and we would do the rosary in in May.
Please continue with the metal detector. It’s so interesting to see what you can find there. I am amazed by the size of the gardens. I would love to see them restored with a fully working greenhouse and vegetable beds. The convent could be self sufficient! There is so much potential.
I really enjoyed the metal detecting. I love the history, and Yanis, your English is getting better and better. Keep up the good work. We are all very proud of you. Phil, your humor knocks me out. Simon, you should have been a movie star. Last but not least, Ryan,
I'm really enjoying the intros to the videos since Alex started filming. Billy was excellent with his editing skills, and his videos were always entertaining, and with Alex there they still are, but there is a difference with the intros that seems to somehow make the convent more visible, the camera angles and captures are so much more intimate than before, that rather than just being excited about seeing what's going on there, I'm actually starting to get a much better feel for the place on a physical level now. I would love to see a tour of the overgrown gardens with Alex's camera, as he picks up a lot that gives a real feel for a space, and it would feel like a proper stroll through, something I would enjoy very much.
Phil is a great sport and I love his attitude and sense of humor. Such a good friend. Phil, please wear eye protection 😉. Good hunting and good job, Yannis!😊👏🏻
Phil, you are a Gem 💎 Yannis, you are becoming quite a valuableperson!! Simon, you simplify can never leave❤ Alex, you are the master of the camera content❤ Ryan, ourMaster of Ceremony ❤ And...we have a new Time Team!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
The last pendant depicts Vatican Square (though not a square!) and a pope on the flip side. No clue which pope. The 5 centimes coin is worth between £1.27 - £6.71 depending on condition. The decent well water is a great find for the garden! Glad no one got bogged down the well. Simon, I really like your bespoke spade. Hand custom tools are the best! Good luck wth the mower, Phil. Cheers, all. 😊
@@jstani21 There was also a Pious 12th in the early 50s. I was born in 1954 and was given a medal and chain later on from an aunt. By then we had Pope John 23rd
Look at you Simon - going all Time Team! An idea would be to reserve a room at the convent to encompass the history of the building - the glass case with the metal findings, photographs (old and new) of the place, and any other history you can dig up through investigation of the records. And of course capturing all the modern renovations.
Yannis speaks!! Phil certainly is patient!! Glad to see the interesting finds from the detector, especially the buttons and pendants. I'm so enjoying watching Simon and Yannis! Thank you all, including Alexander and Ryan, for continuing to film while Billy is away, hopefully having lots of fun and getting some rest.
Yes to more detecting💁👍👍Ryan very good host!!! Simon and Yannis great team! Love them as part of team…. Here’s hoping they will be part of this for long time. And then there is Alex who has made these videos so professional and artistic . Lovely to watch the openings of videos! I think u hit pay dirt Billy with these current folks.
Right! My son is like that and I can’t tell you where he got the gift!! Not from me, for all my academics, and not from The Drummer, whose only skill is setting up & breaking down a drum kit. 😂 You can hold up some weird little thing and say, “What’s this?” He’ll stare at it for a second, maybe hold it and turn it around and then tell you what it is, what it does, and where it came from! I swear, it’s scary.
The pope on the medal is pope Pius XI, born on 31 May 1857 as Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti, died on 10 January 1939. He was pope from 22 January 1922 untill his death. The text around his image is "PIVS XI PONT MAX". The words "PONT MAX" stands for "PONTIFEX MAXIMUS" and means "High Priest" in English. This is a title of the pope. On the other side is the St. Peters Basilic in Rome and the brick wall is actually the colonnade around St. Peter's Square. Interesting finds! Greetz, Mahdi
Simon and Yannis are wonderful. Simon is a natural guide, historian, and sweet soul. Phil and Ryan, the icing on the cake! Loved Phil saving the flower. Billy left the Convent and his channel in good hands.
I love seeing what you can find while metal detecting at the Convent. There is so much history in France and Europe that you never know what you might turn up. I was also thinking that people may have buried things around the convent property to hide it from their enemies and then never got to come back for it. A convent might seem like a safe place to hide valuables.
❤ Simon, you find a medal with the Vatican and the Pope of those years 1952-56 for the perfil relieve. Hope you show us closed up pictures to see better. I love all the findings. How good you are and thanks to Phillip, Yannis y Ryan. Great day. Have a lovely weekend!!!
When I paused and zoomed in I am pretty sure that is Pius the 11th (1922-1939) and not his successor, Pius the 12th (1939-1958). Pp Pius XII had a fairly thin face and always looked kind of gaunt compared to Pp Pius XI. The two other medals were too hard to make out the writing, but I'm guessing Simon is right that it was St Christopher and The Blessed Virgin (looked like a Miraculous Medal from the detail I could see).
The one medal looked like a Pope Pius XI medal with his relief on one side and that of St. Peter's Square on the other. This would date to the early 1930's... Fun explorations!
I'm really enjoying this more serious side of Ryan he is such a good host, Billy has such a good team around him even when he isn't there they keep the videos entertaining 🌸
The button with a x shank probably came off a winter garment, being able to accommodate either heavier thread or multiple strands to holding onto sturdy fabric.
Ryan and Phil at the start .. Ryan and puppy warranted a loud fast giggle .. "here he comes" ... nope ..😂Simon, yannis and Phil explorations just fun and informative. Loving seeing the grounds a bit .. the paths are beautiful.. I wish there was a rendering of what the gardens and grounds looked like. Alex .. you are doing great keeping up with those four and the filming awesome
Very exciting to see the artifacts you are finding! I love the display idea for the convent. Having a dedicated area to the history is a beautiful way to honor it.💯💕
The nuns most likely took a vow of poverty, the items that you find will not be worth a great deal. However, as historical finds they are preceless. I hope you continue detecting and build an even greater collection of trinkets. Maybe you can even talk Billy into investing in a better quality detector that won't trouble you as much, LOL 😊 Lastly, poor Phil, I actually felt his pain.
You guys are doing a great job keeping me entertained. Love detecting. Phil is a master mechanic, Simon all your work is to perfection. Yannis is progressing well with all the jobs you throw at him. Ryan and Alex doing a great job. 😊
When Billy comes back from holidays & wonder why the lawn has been dug up☺️. Simon should have his own You Tube channel he is so interesting & an excellent teacher also taking Yanis under his wing as well.
This was a nice diversion from the repetitious work, work. work. Some of the town elders believe the Nuns hid jewels at the well bottom during WWII and then forgot about them. 👍👍👍
Simon has a natural gift of gab and a true curiosity about his world. He is easy to listen to. Not only that, he seems to have serious traditional building skills. Billy, you’re lucky to have collected this group of helpers.
The first medal is a St Christopher pendent. We wore sacred medals around our necks on fine chains when I was at Catholic School. The niche most likely held a statue of the Virgin Mary. May was the Virgin's month and we took flowers to the statue. May Crowning was a Catholic tradition that seems to have started at the end of the 17th Century. You guys make me laugh so hard when you guess at the Sister's lives. 😂 I know there are priests and nuns who follow this and I'm sure they can tell you a lot!!! Phil, you are a dear friend. I no longer even attempt to do things without the correct tools. Cheaper and easier even to go buy them than spend hours and hours in pain, suffering, and swearing. Nice job with the flail and the well.
Excellent episode! I do love the hunts and finds! Lovely collection of finds! Great that the well still is usable for irrigation! Would love seeing more searches! I am sure with the proper tools the machinery will be working again. Thank you all for making and sharing this marvelous video!❤😊
They are medallions normally with saints on the building on its St Peter’s square in Rome. Outside the stone pile/ building is called a Grotto and would have a statue of our lady /saint Mary
I love seeing all of the history being uncovered by Simon and Yanis (sorry if I spelled your name incorrectly). The pottery pieces as well. They all tell the story of the Convent, a story none of us really know. Keep going, gentlemen!
Fascinating finds Simon and more to come. Great that there’s a possibility of using the well for the garden. Great vlog as usual. Thanks for sharing and stay well.
I just love you cheeky devils! ALL OF YOU! Professionals, Simon, Phil and training handymen alike, Ryan and Yannis. Of course, our trusty cameraman, Alex, too! Thanks Billy for leaving these capable blokes in charge while you and your lovely family are on vacation. 😉☺️
Wonderful week guys, I wish you all a great weekend. You all are naturals in front of the camera. I hope this channel continues to grow. Everyone hit the like !!!
Everyone knows that at times, very specific language is required to finish a difficult task. Well done, Phillip. 😊 If I could live my life again, I would become an archeologist. I found an old dump on my farm and spent many hours digging up old jars and bottles...I never got tired of it, plus I have some pretty amazing things to display. ❤
i love metal detecting and historical finds, so its a yes from me! great for Billys convent display cabinet. thanks for keeping the videos coming. have a fantastic weekend gang
Yannis english is sounding good. As I've said before I'm in love with Simon, I could put him in my pocket and bring him home with me. I like to hear Simon talk and explain what he is doing and the why of it. Poor Phil that job ahead of replacing the little blades looks daunting. Alex does a wonderul job of following you all around and filming what your doing. You all are such a blessing to Billy and his family,
Simon talks about his finds with such passion that I listen to every word. A great idea for searching and you will surely find something interesting. The well is also a great discovery.
You need a cabinet in the hallway with a collection of the best finds framed up on the wall. What a lovely bit of history to preserve for all future guests.
Alex.. 🏆🥇 That well ! What a fantastic thing! I am so impressed with this dynamic team of such capable and interesting guys, I'm blown away. Simon and Phil are superb teachers. Everyone is just stepping up! Loving you all from Phoenix 🏜️❤ Simon..the Vatican and the Pope were on that coin.
Ah! I thought it looked like the Basilica at Lourdes, and could have been St Bernadette on the coin. But you are probably right. I was given a pendant of Pious X11 as a child as he was pope when I was born.
Very exciting Simon to see you unearthing interesting finds, many of them so ancient. Also very exciting is hearing Yannis talking with his intro's and wind-ups everyday. Perhaps Yannis could read some of the French off the finds for us in Canada. I used to watch Time Team plus Mudlarking on the Thames foreshore. All the best for the garden ..can't wait for Monday Yaay!
