People dont understand that the prices of things are never going back down. This inflation is deeper than we think. Those buying groceries are well aware that the real inflation is much over 10%. The increments dont match our income, yet certain investors still earn over $365,000 in stocks and assets. Wish I could accomplish that.

Having an investment advisor is the best way to go about the stock market right now. I was going solo, but it wasn't working. I've been in touch with an advisor for a while now, and just last year, I made over 80% capital growth minus dividends.

My wife, from Mexico, is currently being underpaid by roughly 10k for work in her field with similar experience. She's been working for them for a year and they refuse to give her a raise because "we just can't afford it right now". They just landed a 5 million dollar government contract this week. I'm also applying to sponsor her for permanent residency and this might take over two years, so... Yay?

I am not a lawyer: not legal advice, just things to look into that should help: Assuming it has not changed recently: when you sponsor her you can also apply (two applications in the same submission, read up on this) for her work permit that should be granted when the first phase of the processing is complete. This this will be much faster than two years which is good news. So basically with that permit in hand you are then in a much better place for her to shop around for jobs. Also, after you submit the first application and it is pending, she will have what is called "implied status" and you should read up on what that is and what that implies but it can also help her in terms of her working. For example if her work permit was to run out during the first stage processing.

I lived this with my spouse, sponsored his Canadian PR over covid, took a year and a half (with covid delays). Spousal sponsorship gets priority and should happen fast, especially if your partner already has temporary residency. My husband works construction/reno labour, he was exploited and underpaid for 10+ yrs in Canada. Always at the back of my mind I am concerned that when he quotes or contracts a job his hispanic (Mexican) name looks like a cash opportunity for someone to squeeze a buck/ get cheap labour from him......, Wishing you two the best through the process.

About the increased inclusion rate for capital gain, the missing one is the exit tax: When you leave Canada, all your assets are deemed sold and bought again on your departure date, and you get taxed on all capital gains. This means a higher punishment for people who want to leave the country. As the situation makes the country less attractive, this measure may be a way to try to maintain high income with little tie to the country (basically FSW/skilled immigrants ready to immigrate somewhere else again)
@ZarAthran
@ZarAthran 4 месяца назад
Now it may mean that you need to plan [total capital gain / 250k] years in advance, or effectively delay your departure, and keep earning taxable income in Canada instead of going elsewhere to earn it

Smart, sharp and fast. Finally firs person who understand about 0.13% Canadians who will pay the tax in ANY GIVEN YEAR. So if you have an investment property and you was holding it for all your life, at the time when you will decide to cash out, you probably will be a 0.13 % who pay the tax, once in your life.

I work in a highly lucrative field that's historically systematically pushed out women and minorities. It's not tech. In the 80s, women were forced to wear ballgown and network at trade shows due to the dress code. Theres old woves tales about it being bad luck to have women in the work area. That's the level were talking about. The dropout rate to enter the field is 50%, usually female and minority domestic students, because of the aforementioned reasons. I never really saw the immigration fraud because my fields bigotry trumps corporate greed. I was recently laid off, and I noticed a couple of lmia mill companies in my field while job searching. That's how you know it's bad...

For the "reduction of temporary residents" part - IRCC has already laid out all the groundwork for it. A severely harsher score to reach for Permanent Residency is leading a LOT of temporary students and workers to actually leave Canada, as it is combined with a new study permit cap, work permit cap, and harsher requirements for Post-Graduate Work Permits (PGWP). The goal is to deliver around 600K temp residents permits a year (vs 1M+ right now), and in a few years, after the excess people are gone, the number of new temp residents will simply offset the number of temp residents leaving/getting PR, averaging 0 new temp residents on the balance sheet.

@cccfudge

Yes, but you only pay the capital gains tax on the increase in value at the different time points. So let's say, dad bought a house 20 years ago for 100k, you inherit it now and it's worth 1,000,000. You have to pay capital gains tax on the 900k difference, but for the future this acts as though you "bought" the house at a value of 1,000,000. So if in 5 years you decide to sell it for 1,500,000 you only have to pay capital gains tax on the 500k difference this time.

The Debt based investors you speak of towards the end is a huge concern I think, if someone buys a single family home, turns it into a duplex adding two units, bring up the value then sells for a profit. They could be getting punished for building the new unit since the refinance of covering the cost of the new unit would not be protected. disincentivising people to build and renovate properties.

@MillennialMoron
@MillennialMoron 4 месяца назад
If I was getting something like 15-20x the views (with views being more important than subscriber count) it would probably cover my living expenses. Right now between RU-vid and Patreon I can cover the channel expenses (which are minimal), plus say, my utility bill, which honestly is not bad considering I've only been doing this for a year. I'm optimistic about growth but my focus is on making quality stuff more than what I think has broad appeal.
