I heard a rumor the Altra Mont Blanc 2 comes out next year. Based on the pics it looks like the upper is improved. I can’t wait for you to review those. If they’re as improved as the new Torin then they’ll be a solid shoe.
good stuff, nice with some less main stream brands. would be interested to see a max cushion trial shoe round up with the likes of these, Hokas, Nikes, Suacony etc
Thanks Loyd, loving my Agility Peak 5's. My eyelets started to show signs of ripping through - I like my laces cranked up tight. My local cobbler fitted lightweight metal eyelets throughout both shoes for £10. Problem solved!
Hi Loyd, it is 3 weeks now, Merrell Greece gave me a pair of Agility4 . I run them a couple of days ago on Zagori MR 21k. I had to say that the grip and the lock is fantastic although i had some minor blisters (i used injiinji socks, the weather was extremely hot even for Greece, over 40c and the terrain was also very technical), so i can't really blame the shoes for those. Other friends also run a long time now with Merrells and have the same opinion about these shoes, so i believe the 5s are on the same path. Now i see some discounting on that shoes and prices are near 80 euros! Compared to the Altra Olympus 4 , they are "faster" and more accurate steps on fast downhill trails. Another nice video Loyd, thanks
I have a pair of the Agility Peak 4s. A solid, long distance shoe that I enjoy running in. They are holding up really well. One element that I don't like is the heel collar that's to me a bit low and doesn't provide the best lockdown. It's good to know that Merrell changed it a bit. Thanks for a great review Loyd!
Outstanding, detailed review, per usual! I am looking forward to trying this shoe. My only regret is that it is difficult to find a shop that stocks them, as I would like to try them on instead of ordering via mail.
Thanks very much, I'm glad you thought so. It's always hard when you can't try shoes on before you buy them 🤔 If its any help, I've run a fair few miles in the Agility Peak 5 now and I'm still really enjoying the shoes 👍 Thanks for watching!
I previously had the first version of agility peak .It did not use vibram but the outsole grip was decent. The lugs design was unique as it was shape like the bones of your foot . I found it to be a good trail running shoes . Merrell is a underrated brand. I would love to try buying another merrell shoes again. Unfortunately the distributor of this brand decided not to continue selling merrell . It is hard to get a merrell shoes in my region .
Hi Lloyd. I've just noticed the Agility Peak 5 Zero Goretex. Any possibility of getting a review of those? Seriously considering them for the Spine. They look a good fit for the Arc too. Cheers Michael 👍
Really caught my eye this one Loyd. Great looking shoe and impressed with your review of them. I’ve had a couple pairs of merrell walking shoes and they’ve been fantastic. What are these like on more solid surfaces and tarmac ? Thanks Loyd
The XODUS were a fail for me. Can’t handle the technical wet rocks or roots I run on here 🇨🇦What’s your comparison like because I know you love the XODUS. In the meantime I’m still running Speedgoat this weekend in my old Ultra Glides (my 4th pair).
Was about to ask the same question. I'm due some new shoes and now torn between Xodus ultra 2 or these. I loved the ultra 1 and got about 450 miles out of them.
Try the Hoka Mafate Speed 4, quite similar ride, not as grounded but lighter in feel, rolls better AND far better grip on everything due to Vibram with 5mm lugs...
Thanks Lloyd. I'd also love a fit comparison to the Xodus Ultra 2's as whilst they work well for me on non technical trails I find they have too much internal volume on technical stuff an my feet move around inside them.
I've got the Peak 4's. Slightly heavy and clunky in comparison to other Merrell's I run in like the MTL Long Sky. I feel Merrell always knocks it out of the park with their gear and is a brand not a lot of people go to. Also, great to see I'm not the only one to keep past favourite trainers in the loft 🤣
Loyd good day, did you review the Salomon S-Lab Pulsar? I have a pair. No carbon plate but I find them super responsive, and somewhat unstable. Like they are high risk, but on a flat non-technical trail they are a definite advantage. Anyway if you have some opinion and comparison of them I’d really like to know:)
You want the lugs spaced so they can clear the mud, I’ve had no issues with the outsole. It’s actually one of the best performing outsole I’ve had in a trail running shoe 👍
I think I prefer the Agility Peak 5 👍 I've run a long run in them since my first impressions video and the Merrell shies performed really well. Thanks for watching 🙏
I keep wanting to try this brand just because I like having options but they never seem to meet my comfort standards midsole wise. May go try these on.
