Hey friends! I know I've been gone for a bit, but we had some big news! We are expecting another baby! Baby #5 is due early October 2020. In today's video I am sharing all of my thoughts and feelings, and my personal reaction to how I processed and took the news of this unplanned baby. I hope that this video gives you encouragement in some way, and reminds you that we serve an Almighty Creator who is MUCH bigger than what we could ever imagine, and who's plans are much bigger and far more amazing than our own. Love you all!

For any other mamas out there who are processing through a surprise pregnancy and are "older" - be encouraged!!! It is hard, but it is possible. I was 40 when we got our surprise. He was born a few months after I turned 41. I was so overwhelmed at the thought of another baby in my 40's. But with God all things are possible! He gives strength when it is needed, and He will sustain you. ❤

I am reading this 4 years later. I am 37 years old and just found out that I'm pregnant with baby #6, about 6 weeks along. I had some complications with my last pregnancy about a year ago, and this pregnancy was totally unplanned and unexpected. We weren't planning to ever have another one. I suppose God had another plan. Since I had complications in my last pregnancy, I can't help but worry about this one. I am older, and there's always this expectation of complications automatically when you're older. This is really encouraging to see and literally touched my heart. I am glad there are women who can talk about the positive about having a baby when they're older. Miscarriages do not run in my family, and I have never had one in my life, but I had problems with the placenta (supposed placenta accreta). It turned out to not be accreta, but I can't help but worry about having placenta issues again. I just have a tendency to worry over every little thing, but seeing this gives me a sense of encouragement and leads me to the conclusion that I can do it. The shock factor is a little less overwhelming, so thanks for that.

I was 23 with married with three children, and we thought we were done having children at that point. If we were to have baby number 4 it would be at least 4-5 years. Ten months after having baby number 3, I found out I was expecting twins! It was super hard for me to wrap my head around it. Fast forward almost six years (we have six children) now I wouldn't trade any of it, they truly were unexpected blessings!

I remember watching this video 6 months ago, and when I watched it I prayed “God, if I’m meant to have another baby it’s going to have to be like this, because my husband says no more”. I never thought about it again until this became my story...getting into a groove of life, doing things that made me happy again, and just feeling content. And then the missed period, and a week later, just for peace of mind and confirmation that my body was being weird, I took a pregnancy test...and it was positive. I have no idea what went on in my ovaries to allow this to happen, but it happened. My husband was upset at first...we just moved farther away from family and friends and he started a new job that is especially challenging during the pandemic and he just couldn’t wrap his head around starting over in the newborn phase. Surprisingly, he came around and got excited, while I, the one who always joked that I would have more babies if my husband would let me, am still struggling. I had finally let go of the idea of one more and had gotten used to the idea of maxing out as a family of 5. I know it’s God’s plan, but the shock of the surprise just hasn’t quite worn off yet. Thank you for being honest with your reaction, it helped me to feel less alone and terrible about how I reacted to my own surprise. By this time next year I’ll have a baby in my arms and will wonder how I ever thought my family was complete without him/her 😊

Not to laugh, but I giggled a little when you said “life was on cruise control” because, like you said, and I was thinking, “isn’t that life, as soon as you feel like you’re in control, God reminds us who really is in control” congratulations on this blessing, even if it takes/took a while to recognize the blessing. Life is a wild ride!

My fifth was a huge surprise. I cried, stressed and worried so much that I gave myself shingles over it. The day before she was born, I was full of fear and anxiety but God was kind and gracious. I talked with an angel that day, such a long story but I hope to make a video about it soon.

We had 4 kids and were done. I had my tubes tied in September of 2009. In February of 2011 we found out we were expecting baby #5! He is 8 years old now and I cannot imagine life without 5 kids. Also, my husband had a vasectomy after he was born too! So we should be good! Congratulations.

I was surprised with our 5th pregnancy about four months after our 4th was born...I was completely unprepared! She’s due in two months, and I’m still having trouble processing it...but God knows what He’s doing, and I can trust Him with this!

We just had our completely unexpected baby #3 on February 6th. I related with this video sooo much!! Seriously, so many things in common! I also struggled with depression and anxiety and I felt like I was FINALLY back to myself. I was out of the baby stage and actually enjoying my children. I was feeling so great that the whole month of May, I was trying to convince my husband that we needed to be done having (biological) kids because I didn’t want to go back to the place I was in now that I was out. Also, I felt like I was maxed out with two toddlers. And then we got pregnant in May. Complete shock. So many tears. It was like I was in a nightmare that I couldn’t wake up from. Ok fast forward to now. Baby Ivy has been with us for almost a month now. It has been the absolute BEST postpartum time so far. I am completely obsessed with her and can’t get enough snuggles. I am just praising the Lord that, for the first time, I’m enjoying my newborn baby. And it’s one of those things where you’re glad the Lord is in control and not you because I would be missing out on soooo much if Ivy never came ❤️❤️ God is so good. I love what you said about us being victors in Christ. I fear every day that my mental health will begin to trend downward, and your little sermon was so encouraging 😉 I’ll be praying for you, girl! ❤️❤️

Your story is so similar to mines. We are also expecting baby number 5 and ranging from 10, 6,4, and 19 months. I too cried when I found out I was pregnant again. I was also working out and feeling good and starting to take care of myself. My husband danced when I told him! I was feeling all the feelings you were feeling. I was feeling judged and I honestly didn’t tell anyone until I was 22 weeks pregnant. I had to be reminded that this baby is a blessing and not a burden! Gods plans are always greater and I was honestly ready to be able to step back into the workforce and God showed me that my work at home was not done yet. I am 35! You got this momma and God is so good and faithful.

My 5th pregnancy was a complete surprise!!! We wanted to wait a couple more years. I actually argued with my friends who were telling me to take a test! When I took a test there was a faint line, but I threw it away and said “nope not pregnant” Then my best friend bought me another test and I took it and there was no doubt! She is now 4 the best surprise the Lord has ever given me, but she was actually the hardest pregnancy ever! We have since decided that my body can’t handle anymore! I’m so thankful for my little spitfire surprise!

My niece is lucky number 7! After twins and triplets my sister was NOT supposed to have anymore. She risked her life for my sweet niece. We logged hours on our knees. God knew best. She’s 4 this week. And she’s a spunky God fearing lady armed with the Holy Spirit and lip gloss. I couldn’t be more proud.

I call mine the best mistake I ever made. It took me about 8 months to process. But I cant imagine our family without him. You aren't alone, you dont need to hurry through to the acceptance phase. This was a HUGE blessing to stumble upon today. We just found out we're expecting number 5 as well. When baby arrives, the kids will be 13, 11, 10, 3 1/2. I just finished potty training! God knows better than I do, though, so I will trust in His plan and His will above my own.

Our first baby was unexpected. I was 18 when I got pregnant and had been in the Air Force for less than a year. I remember I dropped to my knees and bawled my eyes out when I found out (not in a good way), but I had always wanted to be a mom and started to get excited that very day. Now, 11 years later, that baby boy is the best thing that ever happened to me ❤️ And he has two brothers now and we’re trying for #4! I always say that God knows what we want more than we do 🥰

I was on the pill, young, and newly married when I came down with an illness that led to days of vomiting. (Which meant I wasn't keeping the pill down.) I found out that I was pregnant and it terrified me. I knew and trusted that God would help us navigate through this scary adventure and was blessed with a wonderful daughter. It was the one and only pregnancy that I've ever had, even after fertility treatments, surgeries, and years of trying for more children. She was truly a miracle and a gift.

Our stories are so similar...Our #5 was a BIG surprise too. And looking back over “how it happened” we can say confidently that it was indeed a God thing. He knows so much better what we need than we do and I will say I now cannot imagine my life without our gift. He has truly been one of the greatest blessings in my life and an area where I have experienced Gods working and moving in such a powerful way. My pregnancy with him was rough (To include needing an ovarian surgery while pregnant), but it was clear that this little guy was MEANT TO BE and its just awesome. I will pray for you. I feel like I have been right where you are. It’s gonna be great, Mama. And YOU GOT THIS! 💗

This is exactly what happened to me in September. All of it. I was taking a break from children, I have 4 already, we were using the family planning system, I was feeling so good having my body back and being me and then I got unexpectedly pregnant. My husband was excited, me, not so much. I struggle real bad with the hormones, a lot of depression and anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum. It has taken me until a month ago to be ok with it and focus on the joy and excitement. Almost identical to your story. Lol. I’ll keep you and I in my prayers that we can handle these hormones

Same girl same. We had 4 boys and I was wanting a 4th, but I wasn't ready yet. I was working out and eating right. I lost 10 pounds and was feeling awesome. I had literally told my husband I didn't want to try for another baby until I had lost the weight I wanted to and had felt like I had some time off from nursing and being pregnant. I have a somewhat similar story. I got surprise pregnant with our fourth. Hubby had had a vasectomy two years before. I hadn't had a period but I thought maybe I just forgot I had one or I just missed a few (totally normal for me). I took a test just to be able to tell my gyno that I wasn't when I called to set up my yearly. Surprise it came back positive instantly! We found out I was already 23 weeks along! i have no idea how I missed it. Looking back timing is everything. We had spent the previous year beating our debt and doing home projects. Now that sweet surprise is 9 months old and it blows my mind that at this time last year I was reeling and sad about this huge change. I'm glad we are the 1 in 100 who have a post vasectomy baby. I'm glad I gave myself time to grieve what I thought our life would be. I'm so grateful that God knew better than we did.

I feel this so much! We found out we were having a "bonus baby" in July 2017. I cried and cried. This was not our plan. Our youngest was only 9 months old. I felt like it changed everything. But when our son was born in March 2018 I could not believe how grateful I was for this baby. He just turned 2, and we would never, ever give him back. You will be so grateful for this baby once it is here!

My youngest was a slightly unexpected adoption. We were paper ready and told to expect a baby match within a month or two. Fast forward two and a half years, and began to think we weren’t going to grow through adoption that way. I was putting together the last things for our application to become foster parents when I received a call that rocked my world. Not a “someone’s considering your profile” call, but that an expectant mom had chosen us to adopt her little girl due in a few months. It was a whirlwind of crazy, beautiful and hard, and I couldn’t believe that I got to be a mom again (we had one 6yo who was patiently awaiting a sibling). Although she was planned, it was three years later. Such a fun shock. Praying for all God has in store with your sweet little one, and for your pregnancy.

Baby #7 was definitely unexpected for my husband and I. We had just lost a child a year before that and we were still very much grieving. I was 2 weeks late before I even tested. Like you, I was going to the gym regularly, watching what I was eating, and I was starting to homeschool our oldest...it was a crazy time. To be honest, I was bitter at first. I think it was more out of fear just coming off of losing a child. It felt like just too much. He’s 5 now and I can’t ever imagine him not being here. God never makes mistakes. Hearing your story is taking me back to January of last year, when I found out I was expecting my fourth baby. Before then I felt like our family was complete with 3 kids and I was happy that they were all finally at the ages where they didn't rely on mommy 100% and I could finally have more time for me. Then I got that positive pregnancy test... and I sobbed. My husband didn't understand why I was so upset because he was crazy excited! It took me almost a month to come to terms with it, but I love my now 5 month old baby girl more than anything. The strength to get through it all had to come from the Lord, because anything less than supernatural strength just wasn't enough. I wish I had had a friend to talk with about it all, but the one friend i felt i could tell ended up telling people about my pregnancy before i was emotionally ready to announce it myself and refused to accept any responsibility for the hurt she caused me. Through all of it, I have remembered that the one constant in my life, Jesus Christ, is all I need to sustain me.

Oh I can so relate. I am also 30, We had this happen in February with baby #6. We have 5 kids ages 1-8 and I was finally just starting to feel myself again. SOBBING is an understatement. SO SO hard. Then a week later, I miscarried. SOOO many difficult emotions! also happened with baby #4, only 3 months after I just had a baby and a super difficult pregnancy. lol It took me the whole pregnancy to come around to the idea of a new baby but in the end of course I Love her soooo much, she is the sweetest blessing and we even went on to have baby #5 afterwards! lol I love babies so much but yes yes yes pregnancy is sooo difficult, post partum is sooo difficult. Remembering that pregnancy and post partum is temporary and life will get back to "normal" helps me.And that God will give the entire family the grace needed to get through it and even enjoy it. I will be praying for you.

Processing, coming to peace with and eventually (hopefully) enjoying an unexpected pregnancy is much more taxing mentally and emotionally than when you've been planning and preparing for a baby. You're doing an amazing job handling this news! I can't wait to see where this journey takes you and your family.

This sounds just like me a few weeks ago! We have 7 and were DONE. I was working out...all these plans. Bam! We are expecting number 8. Like you, I needed time to process, I cried and had a pitty party. But yes, its Gods will and I recognize it as a blessing that some women will never experience so I need to be thankful! Thank you so much for sharing and congratulations!

Well, I have my first 3 kids through in vitro after major fertility issues. I turned 40 and got pregnant unexpectedly out of nowhere. Seriously didn’t think it was possible. We were 5 years since our twins. Surprise baby is 2 now and the absolute best surprise ever. I still have days when I’m still shocked that she came to us! God’s plans are so not our own, they are better, even when they take our breath away like a kick in the chest! 🤣

Just wanted to say that I totally relate to this video now. I remember watching it last March when you posted it... now I’m 19 weeks pregnant with unexpected baby #4. I am so happy and excited now but it took me a few weeks to process. Anyways... watching this back again now that I’m in the same season really encouraged me!

Congratulations! My 3rd was super unexpected but you are definitely handling it better than I ever did. My 2nd baby was still a baby and I really wasn't ready to go through it all again. The entire pregnancy was very hard she even came early due to complications and I had a hard time dealing with that. I fought ever bit of the process and regret that so much cause she is an amazing fighter girl. I can't nor want to imagine our family without her

I’m standing with you in faith that you will not experience the symptoms that have caused havoc in the past. I pray blessing over you- and balance in your hormones. You are a daughter of God, and the enemy has no place. God formed you- and has every control of every inter working. I pray clarity of mind and unending peace as you step into this calling to mothering another child. No doubt, God is extremely pleased with you! I can totally relate to the hormonal battle- major emotional stuff pre and post partum too. You’ve got this mama!

What crazy but beautiful news! No shame in your feelings. I have no doubt that the Lord will sustain you as He has given you this new life. I have 2 kids and would love more but my husband keeps saying no! I'm trusting in the Lord because he knows my heart and I know I can find satisfaction in him whether I get to have another or not.

Our baby #3 was a surprise, and we found out when baby #2 was only 8 months old. I was terrified. It was such a terrible feeling, considering how joyful the previous pregnancies were. Skip forward 2 years, and life is amazing. It's been a rough road, so I understand your feelings completely. You can do this, even if it's hard!

Oh my goodness. You and i are due the beginning on october both with surprise baby number 5. Everything about your lifestyle change journey was the exact same thing i was doing at the same time. I can totally relate to having 4 children, mine 4 are between 2 and 6 years old. We just got into the groove of homeschooling too. My husband had the same exact reaction yours did too. I am so excited for you and your family. I cant wait to see how this all unfolds for you. God has plans for us all and though we may not understand his timing, he would never give you something you couldnt handle. Ill be praying for you and your baby. Good luck!

May I ask how you thought you ovulated twice? I’m hoping for a chance this cycle. I have shorter cycles and think I generally ovulate early. Interestingly enough I had just started juicing and back on a fitness routine like her and kind of giving it up to God, we baby danced a day and 3 days after estimated ovulation, bc he was out of town during most fertile days and hoping there’s still a chance bc I feel “different”. Maybe I ovulate twice or late bc of the changes in my daily routine. 🤷‍♀️❤️

Congratulations!!! Oi, what a wake up call. I am currently pregnant with our 4th baby that is "supposed to be" our last. 4 just feels like a good, comfortable number and I have had similar struggles to you in pregnancy. Not to mention the financial side of things and the fact that pregnancy is always hard on our marriage. We also use family planning methods and plan to continue after this babe, with no plans of doing anything "permanent" to our fertility. Even though we've been pretty confident that this will be our last baby, it's good to be reminded Who is really I control of this situation. Thank you for your raw honesty ❤️ All the best to you and your growing family!!

We have 4 teenagers close in age, unfortunately we were unable to have another child and after 13 years of not preventing a pregnancy we were told it would be impossible and was very happy with our family. Completely unexpectedly we found out we were pregnant with #5 😵 in Jan 2019. I too felt in ’cruise control’ I had this thing down and had felt a lovely balance in life. I was in complete and utter shock and needed time to process. Well little Greyson was born in September and was a complete unexpected blessing to our whole family xx Thank you so much for sharing your feelings.

Our current pregnancy was planned (baby #4), but I so get the fear of the depression. I suffered from really strong prenatal anxiety with my other pregnancies. I was terrified to get pregnant again. It was a huge step out in faith for me to do this again, but I felt God had called me to more children. It has been tough so far, but my best friend has been such a help to keep my eyes trained on the Lord. Listening to RefNet has been extremely helpful as well! I stream it to a speaker and listen to it most of the day while doing other things. It really helps to renew my mind continuously to listen to those really deep sermons. There was an excellent sermon from Sinclair Ferguson this morning that was really encouraging for me in this season. He talked about the early church and how their deep love for the Lord wasn't anchored in their feelings, but in their knowledge of the Lord. I have felt do distant from God this pregnancy and I know it is all hormonal. His sermon really helped me to remember that we have to cling to that knowledge when our emotions are far from us and we can't feel God's presence. We keep showing up when we don't feel like it and that faithfulness will be rewarded in time. Rest in His faithfulness. I will be praying for you. I know how hard it is in the moment, but try to remember to Whom you belong. We can find contentment in ALL circumstances through Christ. ❤

Hahaha GIRL! 1) haven’t commented in years but still a joy to join your homeschool journey! 2) HOW YOU HAVE GROWN spiritually, the way you speak Christ and godliness, the importance of being in the Word and in prayer - praise Jesus!! 3) ok. Our third. I was training for a marathon, had races lined up on the calendar and all. the. things. A destination wedding in the Fall for my bro in law, I’d be the photographer, and on the way home we’d hit up LEGO Land. BAM. Pregnant. Ovulated twice I’m seriously sure of it. -- I too felt I had great plans for the year, and the Lord in our family too had different plans. Now our third babe is 6 months old and he is a joy to have in our fam. And hey, I wouldn’t mind a surprise babe again. I wept at the sign of the first pregnancy test, will admit I yelled and cried about how this “wasn’t the plan.” But the King. So great in surprising His children. And being ever present in sanctifying us and strengthening our faith as we go through the rollercoaster of emotions and post partum everything. But yes ---- how we need to be in His Word and in prayer. Only then can we glorify Him in this and can our husbands and our littles see Christ amidst the madness. May He continue this work in your throughout your pregnancy and post partum!! And we’ll enjoy the treadmill again one day 😉

Love this & you just so much! We tried for 4 years after my 1st for a 2nd. Finally when we just stopped trying and accepted what was, we got pregnant. Well fast forward to having a 6 year old and an 8 month old...surprise! Pregnant 🤯I couldn’t figure out how we went from struggling for so long to getting pregnant just like that unintentionally🤣 God knows best & we are thrilled now! Just never had babies so close on age.I had only had one cycle where I was breastfeeding so I had no idea. I just felt nauseous leaving a birthday party one evening and thought there’s no way. Took the test that night with my husband, saw the lines and ran past him to get air outside so I wouldn’t pass out😬 I’m still in shock I’m 28-weeks!

Your story right now sounds JUST LIKE MINE, literally the dates, being shocked finding out and everything. Working out, IF, feeling like a person again. You are my pregnancy twin right now, my goodness 😂 I am only 7 minutes in, and I can say even though every pregnancy IS a blessing I was sad in a sense for me, because I too had just got into a wonderful routine with my children and fitness that I knew this pregnancy would throw me off yet again. But here we are, 10 weeks, 1 day pregnant knowing one day I will be back in that ‘feeling like a person again’ stage. Due date is September 30 😜 Congrats!

All the ones I've seen come up are about someone single or unmarried, using contraceptives and sharing about the different "options" when it comes to unexpected or unwanted pregnancy. Congrats mama! Baby #4 of 5 was our surprise baby and I totally understand how you feel! Our 4th was 14 months apart from our 3rd and I remember being in shock and crying, saying I couldn’t believe it, and I know the rawness of those moments, I’ve also miscarried before our 3rd and that brought a lot more fear into the picture...but even now you’re testifying to me today as I sit in fear from other life circumstances and momma I promise the Lord’s plans ( as you know) are always bigger and better in his was than our own ❤️🙏🏽 Can’t wait to see how the Lord continues to bring all things together for the good of your beautiful family and His glory! Also that baby is blessed by the Lord and also by being handed into the beautiful family of yours, that he’s created. We went on to have one more baby after 4 that we “planned” lol and after the shock of #4 I don’t know if I’ll ever say we’re done lol, bc we’re done when the Lord says so, though not trying for anymore right now lol 😂

I’m pregnant with baby #4. COMPLETE SURPRISE! I didn’t feel any different. I’m still breastfeeding my 22 month old. So my cycles are all out of wack. So i “jokingly” took a pregnancy test Thinking i wasn’t pregnant it’s just my period being weird due to breastfeeding. But it was positive. I was in complete shock. I took like 10 pregnancy test and all were very positive. Lol I’m now 11 weeks and due September 25th. My husband and i talked about having our 4th baby in the next year or so. I wanted to focus on me and my health and loosing weight and getting healthier but God clearly had another plan for me, for us. And I’m not going to question him. We were meant to have this baby now and I’m feeling very blessed and grateful to be able to be pregnant again. so I’m embracing this journey we will be going through again. And am very thankful none the less. But congratulations on your new baby! I’m excited to watch you go through your journey as i go through mine! Blessings to you and your family! ❤️

This video was so sweet! We have 5 kids also. Our 3rd was a big surprise. I was working out too doing an intense ab workout and I kept feeling like I shouldn’t be and I didn’t know why. I was up at a friends house and my 2nd baby was 4 months old and I took a pregnancy test and it was positive. I cried too because I just had a baby and she cried ALL the time. And this 3rd pregnancy was tough. I had a really bad cough that cracked my rib and then once that stopped I had this itching that started at 30 weeks that was insane and then she came 3 weeks early. So my 2nd and 3rd are the same age for 12 days!! It was so crazy but I absolutely love it and couldn’t imagine our lives without her. We went on to have 3 more boys with one in Heaven. So we have 3 girls and 2 boys here on earth. Congratulations to you and your family on this new little blessing!!

I just had our fourth child in November. We had a thirteen mil th old when I got pregnant and had been working with a natural family planning counselor to take a break from having kids. We were trying to get out of debt and I also struggled severely with depression and anxiety. I cried A LOT when I found out. It was a very difficult pregnancy and postpartum time, but our son is almost four months old and I feel like we are starting to come out of it and get back into a routine. I wish I had had more people around me to tell me that I wasnt a bad mother for processing through shock. I'm sure this will help a lot of other people.:)

Jaimie! I love you and your videos. I've watched you for years but have never commented. This video made me realize it is well past time to reach out! I will be 31 in July. My husband and I have 5 littles all age 6 1/2 and under. 😳 so I can entirely relate to you!! Our first 2 are 27 months apart. Then we had a set of identical twin girls 2 1/2 years later. They were born super early and spent awhile in the NICU. We use NFP also (we are Catholic) and I chart using the Creighton model. Anyway, somehow by God's grace and mercy we ended up pregnant AGAIN with baby #5 when the twins were 4 months old. Complete and absolute shock. I don't even have words to explain the suprise but I know that you can relate! Our little guy was born in January 2020. So now, yes, we have 3 littles 1 and under and its chaos but so much fun! You and I have very similar personalities. I too suffer PPD and anxiety and I continue to take medication postpartum. Congratulations on your sweet blessing from God!!
