If your interested in more Charlie Danial's his version of Simple man is a place to start. He also put out abit of Gospel in his later years. Now for even better music check out American Blue grass. A good place to start with Blue grass is Patty Loveless you'll never leave Harlan alive. Her live version where she gives some of her family back ground will make it easier to understand for those without knowledge of the coal fields or Appalachians. In case I sound mean or presumptuous I have to my shock ran across video's of reactors who didn't understand what she was talking about. I've learned not to take it for granted. Also Bill Monroe,Ralph Stanley and Ricky Skaggs are worth listening to.
I have a Charlie Daniels story. A friend of mine who lives in Nashville and a friend of his visiting from out of state were playing golf at a local Nashville golf course. They rounded the 9th hole and my friend looked over and saw Charlie and a young boy playing a few holes behind them. They thought it was cool, but continued to play. They finish and head into the club house to grab some beers. Some time later, Charlie and his grandson come into the club house. My friend asks Charlie how his golf game went and they talked about golf for a few minutes. Charlie then saunters up to the bar, orders a Diet Coke for himself and a Coke for his grand kid, then turns around, points at my friend and his friend and tells the bartender; "Them boys look thirsty. Get them one of whatever they're drinking." My friend and his buddy thank Charlie and order two more beers. Charlie then lays a $100 bill on the bar, says goodby and walks out. My friend asks the bartender if Charlie paid for that with a $100, and she says yes, he does that all the time. Now my friend gets to tell people that Charlie Daniels bought him a beer once.
Dang! You're right! I never thought about it, but it's kinda like watching Jim Henson on late night back in the day with one of the Muppets. The puppet in his hand was always fully alive, even when Jim was answering a question as himself
Something you might appreciate: the American gymnast Dominique Moceanu, whose parents are both Romanian-American, performed her floor routine to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. It blew the roof off every time she did it.
Charlie was an American singer, musician & songwriter. His career spanned over 5 decades. His music covered a lot of different genres including southern & country rock, country, bluegrass, blues & gospel. He was best known for this number-one country hit "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". Some of his other songs were "Uneasy Rider", "The South's Gonna Do It Again", "Long Haired Country Boy", "In America", "The Legend Of Wooley Swamp", "Still In Saigon" etc.
I was fortunate to get to see one of his final concerts at a free event in Lewisburg TN at the Goats Music and More Festival and let me tell you even though he was 75 he could still rock that fiddle and yes I have never seen that park packed so much with people
I got to spend a few minutes talking with him at Twin Pines during relief efforts after the March 2020 Tornado. He seemed to truly care about his community and it's people.
I live in the Appalachian mountains of NC, not to far from TN. This is where Charlie got his base sound. I couldn't have made better suggestions on the songs, but I would add Carolina.
This came out in 1979 and is still played on both classic country and classic rock radio stations today. Charlie Daniels is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and we lost him in 2020. Great musician, singer and songwriter. Great reaction. You can classify this as country music or Southern Rock.
I got to see Charlie Daniels play in around 1985. I hadn't been around fiddle playing and fount it interesting how intense playing would create a fog of rosin (I think). Was a wonderful night.
Watching your facial expressions added to the enjoyment. You remind me of a girl friend I'd watch movies with, it was almost as much fun at watching her react than the movie itself! Such joy! Your analysis of it was also good, you didn't overdo it either. When you decide to have children, you'd be a great Mom sharing the child's joys and maybe brief sorrows. In you, I see pure honesty. Thanks.
I saw the CDB in 1979, Cleveland, Ohio during this tour. It was the "Million Mile Reflection" Tour and they brought down the house when Charlie broke out his fiddle and played this......I'll never forget it. Thanks "B"!
Absolutely loved watching you enjoy this song live for the first time. Charlie Daniels was an American National Treasure and we are a darker place without him. Rest In Peace
This song crossed genres. There were probably as many 'rockers' in the crowd as there were cowboys. I know...I was one of the rockers at his show in Houston, Texas.
technically it's a violin but in country music it's called a fiddle. A classical violin player will typically use gut or synthetic-core strings, while fiddle players usually use steel strings, due to their sharper sound.
Bisscute - I enjoyed your journey with this song. Your facial expressions told a story. The journey I watched was initial curiosity, then questioning, to anticipation, surprise, confusion, then understanding and finally joy and happiness with what you just experienced. I wish all young people would experience these emotions as they listen to those "old time" classics (which to me was coming of age music). Keep on Keeping On as we use to say.
Your reaction to this song was WONDERFUL. Your face just BEAMED as the song kicked up. LOVE IT!! Other Charlie Daniels Band story songs you might enjoy (and have probably been suggested by others already): "The Legend of Wooly Swamp" and "Uneasy Rider"
I love the first time reactions, for us watching -know what the song holds- and we get to watch the first time viewer have that amazing moment where minutes early they had no idea what they were in for. Much like life I guess. :)
Wilmington, North Carolina's native son, he ended up moving to the Nashville, Tennessee area in 1967, living about 10 miles from where I was born. I saw Charlie twice in concert and to this day was some of my more favorite shows. If it has Strings on it Charlie could play it with performance.
Somewhere I read about Charlie Daniels recalling a tour story. He and his band were down south, and inadvertently encountered a kind of prejudiced group, some bigots. They engaged with the band, and talked about the types of people they hated. But Charlie replied by professing his faith and saying he didn’t have hate for anyone.
Charlie lived in Mt. Juliet Tennessee which is splitting distance from Lebanon Tennessee my home town. He was more than a great musician. He was a great human being. His humanitarian works in middle Tennessee are beyond compare here in Tennessee. Rest in Peace Mr. Daniels you are missed.
Thank you for this reaction it was beautiful watching you enjoy this so much. Especially enjoying it when you realize the devil got his ass beat. Thanks again take care.
Strongly recommend looking into some "bluegrass music". Tends to be more "folks art" sound, but often with a FAST tempo and normally a good portion of "story telling" to go along with it. A genre of music that more or less came about due to people living without power and having to entertain themselves the "old fashioned way" by family members playing different instruments, singing, or just dancing. It has a large influence on "Country" and "Rock", because it is often considered to be a "pure" form of music. No electronics (other than speakers and mics) with no "thrills" (such as studio production tricks or "backing tracks"), and is still something that you can basically pick up any instrument and join in without being too over-bearing to the others in the group.
Right after this performance on their way from NY to Alabama. Their bus broke down and my dad (worked for a bus charter company) was called at 2 in the morning to drive the band to Alabama. Willie Nelson has nothing on the smoke that happens on their bus.
I saw Charlie Daniels (R.I.P.) live when I was about ten years old. I grew up listening to Charlie Daniels. He was a great man, great musician & he loved America. So many great songs...his music is fantastic. Try "Long Haired Country Boy", one of my personal favorites but he really is his own genre and yes he was the best fiddle player in the world.
This song was actually edited at the time for most radio stations to say "Son of a gun" instead of S.O .B. Kids loved the songs that had swear words in them for some excuse to let it slip.
Charlie did a follow up years later (with Country Legend Johnny Cash) called "the Devil comes back to Georgia", and there was a spoof song done called "the Devil went down to Jamaica" (about a pot dealer selling Marijuana).
I would say there are many songs of his you would love listening to, but will suggest just a few. The Legend of Wooley Swamp, In America, Uneasy Rider, Boogie Woogie Fiddle Blues, The Souths Gonna Do It Again, Long Haired Country Boy and I'm A Simple Man or Even Cowboy's Like A Little Rock N Roll are among his best known songs. The Charlie Daniels Band were known as a Southern Rock Band by most but blended Country, Rock, and Bluegrass for a Eunique style and sound all their own.
Charlie Daniels is part southern rock part folk singer. Another funny story song is Uneasy Rider or a southern rock classic Long Haired Country Boy. Both were insanely popular when they came out.
I'm not much of a country fan either, but that period right around 1980 or so when this came out, there were some pretty rockin' country tunes that everybody could get behind. This is right up there. Anybody remember John Stewart "Gold"? Forgotten classic.
This song was on the soundtrack for Urban Cowboy, which came out about two years after Saturday Night Fever, two films that put john travolta on the map. Urban Cowboy is actually a good movie and is worth a reaction.
Great reaction! I was fortunate to see Charlie Daniels live in concert more than once. I also saw him play unannounced at a local park. He just pulled up in his bus and set up some equipment on a small stage and started playing. The guy was legendary in his career as a musician, but equally as a good human.
You’d also like the Marshall Tucker Band. On their live album, Where We All Belong, Charlie Daniels sits in on “24 Hours at a Time”, one of the greatest “Road Tunes” of all time. Love your reactions!✌️❤️🎶
Absolutely! That's a great song. The live, black and white video of "Can't You See?" (one of my top 3 all-time favorite songs) is awesome as well. "I Should have Never Started Loving You" features some TASTY sax, and one of Toy Caldwell's best guitar solos, - plus Doug really goes for it on the vocal as well.
Lucky enough to have lived in the same area as Charlie D and have seen him play quite a few times. Watching him absolutely shred his fiddle or guitar live and close up was an amazing and thrilling experience. Dont yall forget about all the years he hosted the Volunteer Jam either, with musicians of all genres showing up!!! Not uncommon for The Nuge to show up, playing with his buddy Charlie D!!! What a great music time we've lived in!!
Diana Ankudinova has released a new song! There are not enough words to describe the feeling of flight that this song gives. Diana Ankudinova - The Day You... A surprise awaits you!
Loved this reaction! You are too cute. We need to get you a pair of boots and a cowboy hat and teach you the cotton eye joe. 🤠 The legend of Wooley Swamp is another good story teller from CDB. Charlie plays several different instruments. He's well known for playing the fiddle but he's an awesome guitarist as well as mandolin and banjo.
