I agree. Most canvases aren't critiquing their tattoos to that level. I can only imagine how many balloons burst because of a shitty critique.

i thought it was a little morbid for my taste but i really liked Jason's Asian cat design for good luck. i'm glad DAve didn't want the bad luck words written under the tattoo.

I think it has to do with how the judges view the canvases. If they're girly girls and more feminine vs. more tom boyish that's when they start in on a "softer, more feminine" bs.

I can't stand Cleen. Great artist, but his ego is just massive and I'd also say it was really disrespectful to say the pocket watch design was cheesy to both the artist and canvas since that's what they wanted

I think he only state his opinion about the design and not about the client and the meaning behind the tattoo itself

@@rrrr-p3d6e Doesn't matter if it's a competition. There's still no need to put either clients or artists down. Tattooing is an art form and art is viewed subjectively, you might hate one's tattoo and the next finds it to be the most gorgeous piece they've ever seen.

It's just the TV side of things. "Reality" game shows and competitions really like their cast to overblow their emotions for extra drama. I doubt that most of the shit talking in this show is very genuine.

@@nonono7973 Fully agree with you on that - most of the arguements are scripted anyways. But I just disagree with the guy saying that in competitions this type of behaviour is normal, I strongly believe that no matter the circumstances you can always have a respectful environment around you. We don't know what's going on behind the curtains though.

I love the show and the competition but seriously hate how they script them being total douchebags to each other. I know reality shows are supposed to have villain's and hero's but I find it just annoying.

So I 100% agree that his were the best designs together, that's sadly a double edge sword when you *need* to pick 2 separate artist designs.

The thing thst gets me is that on Season 4 they had an artist contestant who literally had Nazi hate symbols tattooed on his forehead, and the show didn't care about that at all. The show clearly doesn't actually care about racism (I mean, they should care, but they clearly don't) and then act like they were "blindsided" by Peck's past. Pfft.

It’s not so much the pain but how the skin takes the ink. It can blow out, or reject. I had colour tattoos over scars that just spat the ink out, and black over other that took it well (but you can still see the texture). Let your artist see, and be flexible with what is physically possible. Good luck!

Honestly it depends on the scar, I have some really deep thick scarring and when the needle went over them I couldn't feel a thing. If you wanted one on your skin the fact that the skin isn't very thick, it would hurt a considerable amount, I find tattoos closer to bone hurt more regardless of scarring. Or you could be absolutely fine like other people are, just gotta do it and find out, plus there's always numbing cream.

In Daniel's case he killed someone and (which sucks to say) Chris only got arrested for choking his step daughter bc it's not as big as a deal. Plus Chris was good artist compared to Daniel. They cut Oliver out for racism and being sexist and didn't want to deal with that controversy

Lol literally how mine was. I sent my artist a reference photo of a video game character and got whatever she drew for me 😂 and that's how it's been for my 3 other ones after. She gets an image, and I let her do whatever she pleases with it

I thought about this and started laughing because these tattoo "artists" regularly misuse these terms but because they have so much confidence and conviction everyone kind of just nods in agreement. If they would talk like that in an art school critique everyone would have this open mouthed stare like "huh?" I kind of wish they would speak about these pieces using correct and specific terminology because that would be interesting. I am disappointed because everytime it sounds like they are coming up with an interesting point it turns into this meaningless word salad with lots of throw away phrases like "its not dynamic enough." I can hear my Art History professor Leslie during moments like that. She would rip these guys to shreds and answer back with "what do you mean by that!? Dynamic how? What is it about the composition that you like and what isnt working?"
