Nasi Kerabu is delicious in both taste and texture. I've become addicted to this Malaysian dish.
I am truly grateful to the incredibly generous lady who served me Teh Madu and Teh Hijau.

» SELF-INTRODUCTION
We were just an ordinary Japanese married couple, both working, until my wife suddenly chose to move overseas.
After thinking deeply, I reached a conclusion to leave the company I worked for 12 years, and started my new life as a stay-at-home dad in 2021.
At first, I had rough time with stress and felt conflicted, but now I enjoy my life in Malaysia, taking the household chores over from my wife.
As I changed my lifestyle I changed my hairstyle to Samurai(Man Bun).
I named this channel "Samurai -----" as some people call me "samurai!" since I came to Malaysia.
In this channel, I will be introducing:
1. My daily life and things I noticed as stay-home-dad
2. My Malaysian life
3. Changes we experience upon moving overseas
Hope you enjoy!

Nasi kerabu is supposed to be eaten mixed with everything but you don't mix with the sauce if its spicy for you. So you did the right thing by asking the staff. Its nice to see that you are more confident in mixing with the locals. And what do you get? The boss belanja you 2 drinks, wow! All you need to do is learn more Bahasa Melayu. You can learn from youtube or use translation apps.

Kerabu roughly translated to "mixed salad" so it should be mixed all to get the real authentic texture of Nasi Kerabu. The blue colour comes from the Bunga Telang (Asian pigeonwings flower) essence, added to rice during cooking process. Also, a lot of Malay words, you cannot omit the vowel at the end like Japanese words ie: Kerabu to Kerab, because it will mean something else.
@SamuraiStayAtHomeDad

My favourite combination when eating nasi Kerabu is = the basic set (extra vege, extra sambal) + Ayam bakar (charcoal grilled chicken) + bawang putih jeruk (pickled garlic) + solok lada (stuffed chilli pepper) + Telur masin (salted egg) 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 yummy! You should try it next time. P/s: maybe first thing first introduce yourself as orang Jepun so that they know your malay is not as fluent, and will help you with your order, give suggestions etc.. because by appearance you look like a Chinese + Malay Malaysian so that's why they thought you know what is served there 😁

Dude.. Your standard order is the same with mine😂 it's so good. Sometimes I opt for the 'daging bakar' (grilled beef slices). It's a bit of a hit/miss because in some shops they tend to overcook the beef so it gets a little too chewy but if done right.. Chef's kiss😘👌

This Warung looks authentically Malaysian with the lady boss Cashier speaking English. Her free 2 drinks were definitely to thank-you for giving free advertisement & publicity for her Warung's business. And, you can eat the food you paid for in whatever way you like. If the rice is coloured very bright blue, DO NOT buy. It indicates lots of artificial colourings used in food preparations. The blue in this shop's Nasi Kerabu is OK. Natural Blue colour from the juice of the Blue pea flower is dull looking after cooking. This eatery is obviously way better than the previous one you visited, in terms of food, ambiance & customer service.

Please practice your Malay pronunciation and vocab. Because if you speak in Malay to people, they will speak in Malay back to you, but you don't understand. I think you should let them know you're Japanese so your Malay is not good. Then, they won't speak so fast.

Next time instead of just saying "sedap" try saying "sedap gila" which literally means "crazy delicious" (very delicious)! The locals will be impressed. By the way, where is this place? If in KL, whereabouts? I'm a singaporean and would like to try their nasi kerabu when I visit KL.

I jotted down "sedap gila"👍 Thank you for teaching me!! I have attached the Google Maps link of this restaurant in the video description, so please check it out. It's located in Shah Alam, about a 30-minute drive from the KLCC. The restaurant is stylish and the Nasi Kerabu is very delicious, so I highly recommend paying a visit.

You're doing really well when trying to converse in Bahasa Malaysia. Not many people can do that. Plus you look more like the locals now. Probably because you eat too much of our food. Lol. By the way, i can feel your pain of trying to finish two drinks (sweet one!) after having a full plate of rice. Haha

yes if you want to have less sweet drink/food just say "kurang manis" or "kurang gula" both mean the same . If don't want sugar say " tak nak gula" . if you don't want spicy just say " tak pedas" or less spicy " kurang pedas" kurang / sedikit = less tak = no tak nak / tak mahu = don't want manis = sweet gula = sugar pedas = spicy don't be shy to say what you want or don't want , it's fine. don't force yourself and enjoy 😊

The people dont speak English much... but thanks for understanding... at least introduce yourself as a Japanese ('saya orang Jepun') so that they're aware that you are not fluent with Malay language yet... cos they would assume you as a local Chinese, and to make it worst they thought you cant speak Malay even though you are 'local Chinese'...
