i was working at a movie theater in nyc, and i saw katya out of drag when i was working the ticket box office. He made conversation with me asking why "houston" street was pronounced "house-tin" and i made some joke and he laughed. I was then going to say "oh my god, you are katya!" and i was going to say how funny they were in "UNHhhh". (This was when they first started.) But even before I could say that, he immediately knew I recognized him, he quickly lit his cigarette, and he quickly ran away lol

@Black_Barbz I'm not really sure in what world you're living in where that could be considered rude, but go off Barbz xD We spent a while chatting while she was taking a smoking break before performing a show that was sold out, so I wanted to compensate her for her time, kindness, and the photo op. It's just common courtesy in my opinion.

Amanda Purnhagen Commodifying someone outside of a performance space would definitely be considered rude by a lot of people. Hence them making fun of the concept at the end of this episode. The culture of fame is really complex, so it’s often difficult to figure out what is right in what context. A tip in a performance space may be considered almost required, but that same tip outside has an entirely different connotation.

@t j He was really nice when I told him how much I love Katya. It was right before Brian took a break for his health. I feel bad for asking, "What name?", because he said he didn't know who he was and that is why he needed a break. I felt like I could have compounded those feelings. I thought I was being fun. He answered in a way that I knew that was the wrong thing to ask. I feel so bad. For the most part, Brian was really sweet.

I've seen a few famous people and did exactly what Trixie said. I do smile so they understand I recognize them but usually say nothing. Saw Robin Williams at a tattoo expo in Seattle many years ago. I smiled he smiled back unfortunately about have a row away others realized who he was and mobbed him. Felt so sad for him.

I feel like being famous = more opportunities to create and share my work with the right people. That is what appeals to me. I say this as a singer/artist/actor. Greater reach means more opportunities to do what I love and make the world a better place. From there, you need to learn how to choose the right ones.
