Idk something about a video saying a port "Cannot Be Saved" after the devs have been very open about saying they're working on fixing it seems a little disingenuous
I mostly agree with your take. But I think the "cannot be saved" primarily refers to the bad first impression the launch made in conjunction with the somewhat competetive release timing - with Tekken 8 just being out and Granblue having released last month. Personally, I hope the devs manage to fix things. I'll certainly buy the game if things are working well in a week or so.
@@skinnyboi8937 a video wont change the reputation of the game, the game already killed itself by having a shit port, i was planning on buying this instead of tekken but now i want to buy a game that works and i can actually find people online, yeah tekken had terrible online day 1 but its mostly fixed now we dont have to give it a week for them to do anything.
Note: Some of the most important issues got already fixed (like region lock) so the title of the video is rather an exageration. Btw, don't use Vsync on FGs or any other game online. Vsync by nature adds more input lag, and no one wants more lag in a FG . . . I agree the game shound't run worse because of it, but don't use it anyway.
I did it for some games that had it enabled by default, usually older ones where it doesn't matter much. And I play mostly on ps5 anyways so I don't usually mess with the vsync, especially when they can disable that in other games that aren't fgc games.
Days later after making this comment French Bread released a patch to fix the ping counter bug, but this made the crashes and disconections happen even more often. I'm starting to think that japanese devs don't know how to make PC ports at all.
funny you mention this cause the game still crashes and the recent patch made it so now i cant get any games along with many others lmao, this title is not an exaggeration
y'know, at least the team appears to be very promptly addressing the absolute state of things. i come from an SNK background and let me tell you, it is a BLESSING that it isn't taking them an entire calendar year and change to fix their game. that being said, i truly wish fighting game companies knew how important the PC userbase is. a lot of fans of fighting games are from parts of the world where getting their hands on bespoke gaming hardware is troublesome or even just about impossible, and developers seem to be dead set on giving their largest install base their table scraps. i was about to cite capcom as doing better but i forgot about their stupid DRM horseshit so forget it, nobody wins.
I'm an Akatsuki player, and having loved CLR, was really excited to play him in a setting where I could play against other real people. (He is from a series that has a very small following nowadays and apparently a new game on the horizon that I learned of recently). I hadn't followed the advice to pre-order this game, because I was unaware the arcana heart port devs were doing the pc port of this game, if I had I wouldn't have. Like, can UNI as a series ever get a break? It's a cool game and has really cool characters! And the only way to play Sion without going back to Actress Again! I very much understand the exasperation here, and hope UNI2 does well in spite of this. But we'll see.
The problems the port has/had really do suck, but saying the port "cannot be saved" and saying you can't recommend buying it is a little bit contradictory considering that most of the big problems are fixed now and the game works perfectly fine now and improvements are still being made. While the frustration is valid, I think it's really harsh to say the game should be avoided entirely. Especially when Under Night is an amazing game that deserves to be bigger than it is.
Gotta love the lasting legacy such a great man left behind. The instant you mentioned "something TB would have lost his shit over" I instantly knew we were heading to the options menu.
it sucks that these games have such bad ports cause the past 2 tims i've bought frenchbread games they just havent worked both times being "yeah i'm gonna get back into playing fighting games with this one" only for them to just not fucking work online, it's really sad and i love the UNI cast and the game in general from when i played some UNICLR with a friend a few years ago this shit sucks
I randomly came across this channel after Slayer got announced. I thoroughly enjoy your content and hope to see more as time goes on. Thank you for pulling me out of a dark place and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.
"the footage you are seeing comes 2 days after release, when the developers fixed the issues" "unfortunately, I can no longer recommend you buy the game" why not
I could finally play online without crashes after yesterday's patches. It doesn't change the issues others are still having or the region locking, but they're at least making progress.
I really hate having a doomer attitude, but I agree with all the points in this video. This plus the fact that we’ll wait half a year between DLC characters could end up killing the game before it even got a chance to get off its feet, which really sucks, since I’m enjoying this game.
Being a sensible consumer isn't doomer attitude. You bought a product that on launch doesn't completely work as advertised and 50% of the game doesn't work
The fact there’s no Crossplay, Bad Online, and just has so much bugs for the PC port genuinely upsets me. Uni2 while the hype is there… PC port should at least be the MOST impressionable port because colour mods and such
The issues the game have are indeed infurating, but crossplay isn't a standard, most games don't have it and it's quite expensive and difficult to get it right.
There's been this theory going around that ASW is purposely sabotaging all the fighters they publish that weren't directly developed by them and, frankly, that sounds too nefarious to be true...but it's kind of hilarious how consistent that has been turning out. "Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe" from FKDigital...broken PC port. "Arcana Heart 3 Xtend" from Examu/Team Arcana...broken PC port. "Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code" from French Bread...broken PC port. And of course, "Under Night 2" from French Break again...broken PC port. As far as I'm aware, all of these were done by that same 3rd party porting company mentioned in the video, whose name is also escaping me at the moment. So even with their track record, ASW still choses to get them to do the ports regardless. All while the PC ports of their own developed fighters weren't done by that company and turn out relatively fine to even good. Kind of makes you wonder.
Even my dumb ass realized that something was up when switching the game to 1920 x 1080 didn't actually change anything, but I had no clue that things got this bad
You forgot to mention there is no regional price for this game , that combine with horrible port that hold back a lot of people want to try out this game
They are also using the old dx9c engine as well which causes some qol issues with modern day operating systems, and features like auto HDR just wont work on it due to that. It also refuses to play on audio devices that have their windows sample rate set higher than 192khz. It will actively find another audio device to play on and even if you disable wll your audio devices itll try playing through your input devices 😂 Internal resolution is locked to 720p causing blurring as well.
Was so so excited for this game, and somehow both version I ended up getting have issues. First I got PC with all its issues, then afterwards the physical switch edition arrived and I couldn’t buy the season pass because it wouldn’t be available for 2 months. Which means that since I got the physical edition I cannot play as Kuon on switch.
I have full faith that French bread will work out the issues with the game due to their past actions, but this was probably this series best chance to take off and it has been fumbled on the one platform that will always be there.
This Really Pisses Me Off, Like Uni2 Had Pretty Much Everything It Needed To Succeed, Everyone Liked The Open Beta, The Console Port Worked Perfectly Fine, And The New Characters Were Cool As Hell, And Uni Was Always Such A Cool Underrated Series That Deserved Popularity, I Was Really Excited To See Uni Get In The Spotlight Especially With Rollback Netcode Which Was The Reason The Older Ports Didnt Have Much Players, But They Had To Fumble The Bag With The Pc Port The Most Important Port Of Them All, Which Dealt A Pretty Huge Blow To The Game ON LAUNCH DAY Which is Pretty Hard To Heal From, Man This Really Makes me Sad, I Just hope The Game Will Heal From This Terrible Launch And Finally Gets The Popularity It Deserves.
What sucks is a that I really love this series and this whole PC port situation combined with tekken 8 releasing probably means that this game is just gonna get ignored or forgotten by most people. This game is so fun I just wish the devs on the port did better.
I’m a Tekken player first and foremost. If Uni 2 came out literally any other time I would’ve definitely given it a shot. I guess I’ll try the ps version in about a couple months.
The most recent patch has fixed many of the presented issues. It was horrible for the pc port to be released in this state but it is being fixed and the online is much more consistent now
The online started functioning “well enough” about 14 hours after the game went live. Currently it’s got some issues, but it’s more than playable. Cool ur fuckin jets man lol
Really hoping they fix the port cause i really liked the previous games before i really got into fighting games. I stopped playing it though cause netcode obviously. Hopefully it gets fixed ssooner rather than later. Ill pick it up once it gets fixed.
Undernight 2 (on PC) is the TitanFall 2 of fighting games. Given 0 chances to succeed, literally sent out to die. And it sucks because I always wanted to try undernight, but cannot justify buying such a poor product. And still, there are people defending it with the classic "good on my end!", and giving FB free PR services. All but ensuring that this will happen again.
I was very upset I have 1000 hours in UNI so I really loved the game. But the fact it didn't work Tekken just took away my desire to play UNI it was that bad tired of these games not coming out finished especially when I thought GB was finally the set in stone of anime fighters to be actually working on release.
Man... the only reason I didn't buy this game day 1 was because I was broke. I managed to sell something so I can afford it now, but I don't wanna buy it til the consensus improves. Shits so sad given how far UNI has come up til this point.
rip to all my homies. btw I heard that Tekken also had issues on launch, and I also saw, how many people downvoted Tekken on Steam bc of this. What they didn’t thought about is that many games have these issues and that in the grand scheme of things that the full servers withing the first few days are just a small, insignificant problem. But this game seems to have EXTREME issues, so I get the downvotes in this case
Some might say he is being a bit dramatic to call it dead on arrival when they are working things out. But remember, they release this 1 week after consoles, at 49:99 in a NON WORKING STATE, people could barely PLAY the game they bought. It's unacceptable, first impressions sets the path forward for a game, and now they'll NEVER get the player numbers from PC that they could've gotten from a stable release, no matter what people that would buy it, now simply won't. Yes, some may buy it in the future when things are fixed, but some still won't due to this. It's simply a loss for the scene and the creators of the game should be ashamed of themselves to not even bother to make the simplest of tests to see if the port even worked correctly.
This game released a single day before Tekken. Launching a niche fighting game that doesn't work a day before Tekken is a laughable failure. I know where I'm investing my refund
@@richardjohnson8991 No one that wants to play UNI2 is intered in TEKKEN the audiences are not the same lmao, uni was gonna have the same player count if it launched 6 months after tekken
you think that is bad at least you have the game! my pre-order got fucked up and the store didn't have it in stock even though I had a pre-order! So I literally can't play the game.
"UNI 2's Pc Port Cannot Be Saved" and at the same time, "The footage you've seen is after they patched the game a couple of days late to get everything workingr". Sounds like you're saying it's saved to me. I understand your disappointment but the title is just a clickbait. Anw see you in UNI2
Enough time has passed, Under Night In Birth II has now been patched. Can we now all admit that Under Night In Birth II is the new greatest fighting game in the world for all eternity, that anyone who disagrees with me is wrong, and we need to spread the word worldwide like it's the newest wave of Kagura Bachi fever? Matter of fact, spread some more Kagura Bachi love to Japan too! So strap in, get your VPNs, and gogogo, boys, tell the whole world this: Lobotomy Kaisen is dead, & LOBOTOMY IN-BIRTH HAS BEEN BORN!!!!!!!
I mean, not that we shouldn't be able to expect better by this point, I don't know how anyone expected any differently than this honestly, given the climate we currently exist in, given it's a Japanese studio and as a generalization Japanese studios don't have a habit of not handling PC ports well, on top of basically every game needing pretty major bugfixing throughout the first few weeks, etc. etc. Again, I'm not trying to give them a pass--we really *should* expect better than this and get it more consistently--I just, am kinda baffled anyone's surprised enough to be mad, I guess?
I've bought nearly every Japanese fighting game that's been released on PC since Strive and never had issues playing day 1. Strive, DNF, Melty Blood,KofXV, SF6, Granblue, they all had their problems but the basic functionality was there. People will tell you Melty had a worse launch than this but the issues only affected a portion of the playerbase, it wasn't everyone like in UNI2
I have heard from a friend playing it the game does kinda work now, but it still puts me off, I need to hear a bunch of reaffirmations no matter how fun the working game looks.
it's crazy people have more expectations, higher standards, and less leeway for a game with a team of 14 devs when Tekken had the same problems on launch and people are way more understanding that the game just came out even tho Tekken got a bigger team and a way bigger budget
Let's not sugarcoat things here. Whether the game has 14 devs or 800, it doesn't really matter. What matters is the game they released, which in this case was just in a shit state and that is inexcusable. The consumer isn't here to take pity on a small dev, they are there to get a good game they payed money for, so everyone that is mad about it is rightfully so, because the product they delivered was just bad. The fact that the team is now actively adressing these issues as fast as possible is very commendable, but like Gekko said in the video, these should not have been a issues in the first place.
i get that editing takes time but all this stuff got fixed super duper early on, like a day after. game no longer crashes in matchmaking u can host rooms with no issue. the only thing that's questionable is the ping indicators. u probally should've held off on this one ngl
Anyone who claims that the 1.0 version of a game is not how it should be judged needs a wake-up call. If your game releases in an unplayable state, then I don't care who's fault it is, or if you fix it 10 days later. The issues are so glaringly obvious that the developers/porters knew about them, and they released it anyway. They still took pre-order money without communicating the issues whatsoever. Stop forgiving unplayable releases and stop pre-ordering games. Unless we vote with our wallets to communicate to these companies that this behaviour will not be tolerated, it will continue.
I swear they better add crossplay in some sort of future update or this game is gonna die hard, again! I know it's an indie company but so were the people that made the power ranger fighter and they implemented it. French bread doesn't have an excuse since they've been in the game so long! They've made both Melty Blood and UNIB they should have more than enough experience to implement it more than the people who made the power rangers fighter.
As someone who loves UNI2, thank you for making this video. The UNI2 fans deserve better than this. UNI fans are some of the most dedicated fighting game players out there and UNI is one of the best games ever made, and Cyclone Zero who ported it trashed a legendary game. Even if it means no PC players buy UNI2, the message needs to be loud and clear to the devs never to trust Cyclone Zero with ports again!
Its kinda funny that both Tekken 8 and UniB2 PC versions are crashing messes. At least UniB fixed their shit day1 which is impressive. Meanwhile Tekken still randomly errors out, or starts running at 30 fps lagging everything out. Now if only both of these games would fix borderless windowed mode / multi-monitor support... I shouldn't have to hack the frigging game to play on the big screen...
I mean, if you were excited for Uni, then this video just helps kill the game even if they end up fixing the client. Don't get me wrong, the port is actually broken and that's not acceptable at all. But a video dedicated to hating on it just kills the game faster.
Ah, if you had scheduled a sponsored video where you were going to review the game and couldn't, that sucks. You gotta keep up sponsorship agreements. I just really question the goal of this video with the way this published version of your thoughts is presented.
@@SerpenSquamata without a doubt. The port is bad, and people deserve to know that before they buy it. But a review and a hit piece have different impacts on the viewer - "port is bad, buy it later if they fix it but not until then" isn't the same as an angry rant. Both are good content, just differ in the effects they could have on the game's future.
So you're telling me that I can disregard literally everything you said since they patched the game and I could just buy it on PS5 instead? Awesome! Also, the people that refunded the game cuz it was a bad port are the same people who refund games cuz they don't like them in the first few hours without giving it a chance. I think they should have waited until after launch for bullshit to be resolved, but also that we shouldn't be surprised PC ports are bad. And the people who are "moving to T8 cuz Uni2 bad" are dumb as heck.
Yes u can get it on ps5 and turn a blind eye on the pc port, but people with only the pc port wont, no one is gonna spend money expecting a working product and not refund it if it doesn't work.
I was so excited for this game to finally have good online. Playing with friends locally has always been a great experience but I wanted so badly to play online and I was excited for this game to be my next time sink fighting game. Instead the game doesn't work on launch, I saw an update for an online hotfix, bought the game again and it still didn't work for me. First impressions are important and I even gave this game a second chance that it didn't deserve. DID NOBODY TEST THIS? I'm forever put off from this game. I'll wait for granblue to go on sale
are you gonna post a video about the day 1 patch for pc and say it’s saved or is it easier to beat down an already niche game after its amazing response time fgc gate keeps fgc once again
This issue is more the first impression, the day one patch could make this game into one of the best fighting games of all time, but it launched like shit. Now most people who hear about this game are going to think, “oh it’s that game that launched without cross play, horrible net code, bad lag, and on the same day of Tekken 8”
@@woopi8003 my guy if they had the ability to handle a PC port themselves they wouldn't outsource it but it wasn't doable. Plus if you played any of their older games the community had to mod the fuck out of them to make them function on a PC.
And? I don't think that has any bearing on my point. They didn't make this port (or even hire the team who did), it's not their fault.@@garretwoeller7669
As the comments say, the port has been continuously fixed and worked on, I’ve had no problems on my end. The video was out dated and only continues to get more outdated with each passing day.
I was ridiculously hyped for this game, because me and a buddy of mine had been really into cl:r for a bit, but the release was so utterly abhorrent that we refunded it and decided to try tekken for the first time. Honestly im kinda thankful for the game being shitty, because now im having a blast in tekken
Bad ports happen a lot, and it shouldn't be brushed away but I'd say like 50% of fighting games release with some pretty noticable issues on day one, especially with netcode. UNI2, even if it's PC launch is worst then most, isn't like some type of unsalvageable disaster. Things like this happen a lot, especially with port jobs, and will be fixed within a month with proper dev support, which French Bread is clearly doing. Multiplayer games, in my opinion, should always be given a bit of grace post-launch to iron out online issues because it's not possible to accurately test beforehand. Proclaiming UNI2 dead a few days after launch because one version has an issue that can be and currently is being easily fixed isn't going to do much then damn any scene the game would get. The PS4 version works perfectly and the PC version is still nearly identical in single player content while the online infrastructure is being worked on
That's massive amount of copium. The only way companies stop releasing shit-tier broken messes for PC is by voting with your wallet and not buying it. Most of the issues seen in the PC version would've been incredibly easy to spot by any decent human being with a brain or a rookie QA worker.
@madelinerei9072 inexcusable? Bro French Bread is almost an indie developer with like, 15 people working on their games. The director legit said they don't have a budget for it. It's expensive and there's a reason only the big budget fighting games are getting it
@gustavoduarte3507 plz is not like they had to make the game from zero again, how can u justify that the only thing they had to do was test the FUCKING GAME!!! and crossplay could of been added later if the game dint shit itself.
PSA: It is basically fixed. You Cowards have no excuses anymore to not play Frenchbread games! Only thing that is missing is Crossplay PC-PSN but FB is too poor for that-.-
Tone down the histrionic screaming if you want people to take your opinions seriously. Acting like an angry toddler might get you an audience of 12 year olds, but it's just going to drive away older than that. If I wanting to hear a grown man have a screeching meltdown I would play FPS on open mic lol.
You really should've kept this to yourself. You're making the issue worse and profiting from it while saying you cared about the game which sounds real fishy.
