You're gonna find this funny, I had a BCD436HP years ago and loved it. One of the best radios iv'e owned. Then I upgraded to the new SDS100 and man was that a mistake. It had so much interference here in the city, couldn't hear vhf, uhf, and 800 mhz would drop when a nearby transmitter would key up , even with all the filters applied it still took a hit from the local transmitters nearby. When I had my 436/536Hp I never had that problem . I think the verdict here guys is the HP series were way more stable than the SDS series. Long story short Iv'e ordered another 436hp and it will be here in a few days. Chris-K5RCW
The 436HP is just as bad an terrible. Uniden owners especially on radioreference have become incredibly delusional clinging to this nonsense to feel special about themselves like sad little manchildren.
Super good video and very informative! As a brand new scanner nerd I’ve set my sights on this scanner and will be referencing this video when my new scanner gets here!
We can't see what your doing very well because your camera i s not focusing right, but this is an awesome scanner. I plan on getting one next year myself. Cant wait to get it.
I used to write technical manuals for the USAF, ITT Defense Communications. If a soldiers' life depended upon making this scanner operational out in the field with the currently supplied manual, he would be killed. KM7KK
I ordered one and expect delivery soon. I travel between a couple zip codes here in the state. Do you recommend a GPS antenna, or can I save certain channels from each zip code? Thanks for your videos. Will make use a lot easier. My dad has a scanner, but this is my first time owning one.
Cześć. Mam problem z moim Uniden ubcd 3600 xlt. Niechcący skasowałem kartę sd sentinelem. Radio teraz nie działa. Potrzebuję zawartość karty żeby uruchomić i zaktualizować radio. Czy możesz przesłać mi mailem zawartość karty ? / Hi. I have a problem with my Uniden ubcd 3600 xlt. I accidentally deleted the SD card with Sentinel. The radio doesn't work now. I need the contents of the card to run and update the radio. Can you send me the contents of the card by e-mail?
I don't think you can enter two zip codes. What I do is just enter a new zip code to adjust to the new area. If you make a favorite list (you can make many), then all you have to do is change the list from one to another as needed. For example, if I live in area 'A', I make a list for that area, and choose that list when I am there. I make another list for area 'B', and then when I go there, I switch to that list. Takes time, but well worth it as you only program in what you care to listen to. Sorry it is out of focus, just an amateur attempt to make understanding a very complicated scanner, once you understand the basics, it is really quite easy. Definitely not your father's scanner ...See the other videos I made to help understand the other features. Hope that helps.
purchased this unit because it said all you do is turn it on and punch in your zip code. nope. had to set the clock. then i punched in the zip code. i know t is me but the instructions say just enter zip code and begin to listen. Not. trying to find the next step. will probably retrurn it stating incorrect instructions.
How are we supposed to know what the time zone settings are? it doesn't abbreviate like EST it has numbers 0.0 thru 14.5 or something like that I don't understand it
I could really use help. My wife and I started listening to a free app on our phone for our local area and there is always something going on. We decided to buy this $450 item to increase what we can hear and it's the opposite. We hardly get anything. Wife thinks it's a 450 dollar piece of junk. I think its user error. Would anyone be willing to explain why I cant pick up lots of traffic in our big city?
See if there's a attenuator feature if so turn it off it can keep you from receiving weaker signals and also tvs and computers and things can kill your receive if it is close to them.
I too live in the "corner of Utah, Arizona, and Nevada" and have been looking for a new scanner to replace my ancient Uniden Sportcat. I've pretty much decided on the 436, but would appreciate the opportunity to ask you some questions about it by email. I promise I'm not a stalker.
...no, just a usb port. You can scan while plugged into a computer, but it will not charge. I just use rechargeable batteries and switch them out as needed.
What do you need help with? Maybe I can help, I really don't want to tutor anyone, even for a fee. My 5 videos should get you off and running, plus the hundred other videos on RU-vid.
The sheriffs/police department frequencies in the county I live in don’t pickup on the scanner I have (Uniden BC125AT) I can pick up sheriffs offices and police departments in surrounding counties but not in my county. could it be caused by the fact that it’s a cheaper scanner and won’t pick up the frequencies or is it possibly a user default?
Possibilities are numerous for that problem. Wrong freqs entered in scanner, digital freqs rather than analog etc etc... Since I have never used a BC125AT scanner, I am afraid I wouldn't know how to solve the problem you are having. Sorry.
I need to be able to give this to someone i care about who has no experience with radios or scanners. What if i lose the fuckin manual or they need to have it working fuckin immediately.
Is the radio capable of operating while connected to AC power and charging the batteries without overcharging? What is the charge-time setting in the menu all about? It's disappointing to think a $370.00 handheld receiver is unable to receive and manage its battery, all of my radios from decades past handle this task perfectly and cost much less. Swapping batteries is just a bad idea, this isn't found in commercial or ham radios. I have been a Uniden supporter for many years, this time I’m not so sure, engineering seems to have been ignored. Tell me what you think, I hope Uniden listens. Thanks for your time all!
Yeah, unfortunately the battery situation is a bit awkward. It will run on batteries or via a USB connection to your PC, but it will only run the scanner or charge it, not both at the same time. It may, or may not, run on a USB to wall socket setup, I haven't tried and I don't recommend trying that. So what to do? I wanted a scanner that was portable, it is a very powerful and well thought out scanner in my opinion. I just bought rechargeable batteries, the best I could find. The higher the mAH number the better. Purchase a reliable recharging unit, and then always have a set charged and ready when the ones in the scanner fail. You should be able to listen all day really, they last quite a while. Once you get used to that, it ain't that bad. I mean, if you want the same scanner ability, get the 536 tabletop version, it plugs in. I really was not too happy with the battery issue, a lot of folks aren't. But I worked around it, and it only takes a minute to swap the batteries out...
JJ, thanks for the comment. I will look onto this and see what I can come up with. After I made the Part 4 video I had surgery so I am moving a little slow and my left arm is at about 50% mobility which limits my video creating. Keep posted and I will post new vids as soon as possible... So much to cover...
In trying to enter my Zip code I get the error message, "Keypad lock is on". I can NOT find any way to 'open' the lock. Whoever wrote this junky manual should be beheaded.
Yeah you are correct, I was just calling out things as I filmed and made that mistake, thanks for the correction. But the top dial is called a dial I think...
I just ordered one in amazon for $369 bucks cant wait to have it on my hands been hearing lots of shots fired in my area which is a quiet place. Can get lots of info that the news dont cover. Thanks for the video human
I just purchased this scanner and am having a lot of trouble, I have the county I live in loaded into the scanner but it is not picking up the Frequency because I am getting nothing from my county but it picks up all the surrounding areas but not mine, any help would be greatly Appreciated.
Kinda difficult to answer without more info... but I'll try. Go to Radio Reference, www.radioreference.com, and search for your local freqs. Then see if those freqs are loaded into your scanner. If not, program them in manually (see my video #5 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c4RWQ4kJdzs.html ), or use the computer program 'Sentinel' info.uniden.com/UnidenMan4/BCD436HP On your scan options, go to service types and choose what you want to listen to (Menu>Select Service Types), choose from list of services (Fire, Law Enforcement, Military etc), choose on or off. Go to 'Set Scan Selection', (Menu>Set Scan Selection>Select Lists to Monitor), either select a list you have made or 'Full Database'. With the scanner scanning, press "System' button and turn knob on top to select the system you want to scan, you can further narrow down the choice through the 'Dept' button and 'Chan' button. Good luck !
The scanner will operate anywhere. But since the scanner is set up by USA postal zip codes, the best place for success is in the American Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. You can use the Sentinal software available from Uniden to create your own Favorite list based on the frequencies being used in your location, or just manually enter the known frequencies into the scanner yourself. Since you only mention the West Indies as your location, and the area is based on many nationalities, I really have no idea how successful your scanning will turn out to be. Good luck though, should you try the scanner.
