Just ordered this scanner today and doing some information before it arrives. Thank you for the tip! I charge my battery packs via solar and have had good luck with the Anker packs.
Same, don't connect the scanner directly to solar panel though. Unless you get a really expensive panel the voltage regulator will have a slight delay when the lighting changes which could potentially damage the radio if it's not voltage protected, which Anker packs are. I accidentally destroyed 2 non-protected power banks that way, thankfully the Anker is protected and will just momentarily shut off and restart when that happens so that it doesn't damage.
Not to mention proprietary. Eventually it will stop being made and you'll have a hard time replacing it years in the future when you wanna keep using your nice handheld you paid a lot for.
If its usb powered then you can always powerbank it. I do this with my TRX-1 whistler on all day outings, though with the batteries i put in it I get 12 hours life. It also lets me charge while listening.
I lived in Spokane in the 70s as a child. We had a CB radio and scanner back then. I had a friend called Jeff who went by the handle ‘Magic Man’. I was Captain Kangeroo as I am an Australian. What yrs were you in Spokane? Cheers
You're using ProScan with this BCD436HP? What are the benefits of doing this? Trying to help my mom that has this scanner as well. Great tip on the battery bank btw!
The only problem they have is the user level volume, you can't adjust individual user volume in digital systems. I could barely hear the unit but when the dispatcher comes in she comes in like a wrecking ball volume level 100
Oh I might add you don't want to use a battery pack on this model radio at all because it will eat up that battery pack so fast because I've had several of them and they only last maybe 2 1/2 to 3 hours max so buyer beware when it comes to using battery packs if you have to use one make sure your batteries are charged first so that way in the event that the battery pack should die you can still run off of the batteries
Yeah well the SDS 100 did not work so good for conventional receive compared to the 436 model that worked flawlessly the only downside to the 436 is that it does not handle simulcast distortion at all especially if you have a basement it won't work down there because it's 800 MHz
