When SC is discussing about reducing age consent in sex in POSCO act, I am unable to differentiate between that and Child marriages. Were we unnecessary criticizing previous generations? Are we returning to that phase or we never came out of that phase but only stopped marriages and let the relation go on without responsibility which comes with marriages?
@gopalg555 What outcome we want to achieve by bringing UCC? That am unable to understand. Will not our diverse culture die rather than flourishing? I think demanding UCC rather than special provisions for Hindus is foolishness in part of Hindus. If some are complaining that other religions have special exemptions, then why don't we demand special exemptions for Hindus rather than UCC which in result all have to loose some rights. If others will be loosing some rights then Hindus will also loose some rights. Don't be blind in comparisons.

Part IV, Article 44 of the Constitution states that “The State shall endeavour to secure the citizen a Uniform Civil Code throughout the territory of India”. However, Article 37 of the Constitution itself makes it clear the DPSP “shall not be enforceable by any court”. Nevertheless, they are “fundamental in the governance of the country”. This indicates that although our constitution itself believes that a Uniform Civil Code should be implemented in some manner, it does not make this implementation mandatory. Post-Colonial era (1947-1985) During the drafting of the constitution, prominent leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr B.R Ambedkar pushed for a uniform civil code. However, they included the UCC in the Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSP, Article 44) mainly due to opposition from religious fundamentalists and a lack of awareness among the masses during the time.

If states are allowed to formulate their own laws, then its no more UCC. It should be an all India efforts. No more spwcial previlege to any community.

The unexplored question by the UCC is that how laws are perceived by epicenter faith countries with a populace more than 90% of their country vs a diverse emerging populace of the particular faith in question in whole relation with the majority community of the country.
So faith can intervene only on spiritual practices and rituals or worship, or rituals of how marriages or birth or death is to be conducted etc . Period.. Faith ends there.. Faith has got NOTHING TO DO WITH age of marriages polygamy womens right on properties etc etc. These are individual and social topics and anything that is universal SHALL APPLY evenly for every citizen in the nation.. this universally applicable laws is what India should aim under UCC.. good luck India..

#BJP_UCC : We would Like to add that, State Govt exercises control on Hindu Religious places and interferes in the processes including Members of Temple Trust, Tickets, Lease of Shops outside our Temples, Pooja Padhati, Cost of Prasadam and a lot more. The same should apply to Islam, Christianity and Sikh religions too. Either you take charge of ALL Religious Places OR you release it for everyone - Apply the same rules for everyone.
*Thiestic view:* It depends on the context. When people follows religion staunchly it is an obstacle to their religious path. Its completely taking away their religious identity . Those laws are directly revealed from gods mouth to the prophets ,rishis passed down through thousands of years. It indirectly means we people have the authority to decide what is right and wrong even though it was already decided by God. People are making religions very convenient to themselves. They are left and right amending as per their wish. Now a days not even amending, they are changing whole traditions, culture, customs through acts. UCC as a choice is good, not as an imposition. If one want to follow UCC then just give up their religion and follow the religion HUMANISM. Some people really sacrifices their own happiness happily for God to reach his abode. They don't want equal property, equal maintenance, equal succession,inheritance rights etc because they follows gods words religiously. Wives treat husbands like god those times. If people are really religious, for gods sake they have to go through the inconvenience which is present in every religion. But some people doesn't want to go. They want all the conveniences through secular acts and still they want religious identity. Whom they are deceiving.God doesn't know all these things. What if God asks after death, can't you even sacrifice simple pleasures in life for God to get heavenly pleasures after death. Can't you even obey my divine laws. Even divine injustice is better than human made justice. *Atheistic view:* Happily one can welcome UCC . Because it removes all inequalities. Inequality is the evil which is passing from years as a succession. Natural inequality is good. Not artificial inequality which we created. Those who are religious and still welcomes UCC are hypocrites. Their devotion is superficial. Religion is nothing without religious laws. Government doesn't need to go through UCC to remove inequalities. It can change those laws which are causing injustice to people by using the cause of providing social justice to all. They are having that power. That is the same reason they removed untouchability and sati, triple talaq, providing reasonable maintenance. In all these cases they didn't change religious laws completely just because of few unequal laws. Its like saying till now Constitution has amended more than 100 times, so it is not perfect, let's remove constitution completely and create new one. Basic structure is laughing at the corner. Even though when one creates new Constitution there are certain basic things which doesn't change. They will come again in new Constitution also. In the same way in UCC also will come. Don't take away religious identity completely by completely reforming religious laws. Government is making people go through identity crisis. Question oneself , do we have the right to decide what is right and wrong which was already decided by God. Incase if we have that right there is no need to follow God words . If we don't have that right then we have to follow religiously. We have to trace the laws which belongs to directly gods revelation or peoples revelation, they just inserted whatever and whenever they like through thousands of years. Why all this ado for UCC. Just simply enact it and give a choice to people. Religious people will marry religious people and they follows their religious laws and non religious people will opt for UCC. But it works effectively for future generations Not now. But people want the tag of Religion without following any religious laws. Here comes the problem. But people are trying to seperate. Understand intricacies of UCC. It is inseperably linked to God. But UCC is good. Let's see when the draft comes how lengthy they have enacted and how many similar laws are still there. UCC is a philosophical problem more than a legal solution. It indirectly tells to God we are better than you. You don't have that much forethought what happens in future in 21st century. At the end laws are for humans not humans are for laws( we create laws according to our comfort not we create comforts according to divine laws) . Truly logical person will see the inconsistencies in their views.The tragedy of human mind is it can point out others flaws easily but it can't recognize its own. It will becomes blind when it comes to ones own flaws. If one needs to understand UCC, firstly one needs to understand God, religion. By reading all this don't think I am against UCC. Instead of asking people whether to implement UCC or not,just ask people to give up their religion and be a religionless nation. Then implement UCC. All headaches will go. But it's impossible. Religion is one of the biggest identity to people. And it comprises of religious laws. It is like lockdown trick, if one suddenly asks people to do big things they won't do, they will tell to do slowly slowly some things then people dont resist. And finally someone will ask to give up religious laws and religion completely in the name of progress. UCC has a place in either atheistic country or single homogenous religious country not in multi religious, multi cultural nation like India. What about tribals. Their source of life depends on tribal culture ,traditions and customs.What about the place of customs then. It will lose the value. If tribals have exception then why not other religions. Everybodys religion , tradition, custom, culture is important to them how unreasonable it seems to others scientifically. Laws are for people not people are for laws. And it depends on numbers. UCC as a choice will be good but not as the one and only option. Before marriage the couple has to provide an option to decide which law should be applicable to them in future. Then it will be good. Then what is the use of the word diversity. Diversity doesn't means just looking different, eating different,it means living different according to Different religions, castes, culture, traditions, and all these comprises of own personal laws who follows and still exists in unity by following their ones own religion.That is real unity in diversity. Diversity name came to India mainly because of so many religions and God's which comprises of religious laws. Then make uniform penal code(UPC), uniform criminal procedure code,by removing gender discrimination wherever it existed in any minutest of the minute form. Treat everyone equally and uniformly . IPC, Cr.Pc is also 100℅ not uniform. Inequality is the rule of nature.Nature doesn't produce two individuals equally but we humans trying to impose equality and uniformity everywhere.Even one treats everyone equally still inequality exists. Even one treats with equity also still inequality exists.Equality is the input Inequality is the output.Inequality is the beauty of nature. Inequality is natural but equality,uniformity is imposition,artificial.And the beauty of inequal religious laws are one among them. Uniform word should not be used unnecessarily.How it looks when all people are looking exactly similar without any iota of difference like uniform (earnings, job,skills, looks,talks, vehicles, values,culture ,tradition,etc) . Can we perceive that world. Then there is no difference between humans and robots.The spectrum of beauty will be lost through Uniformity. Then there will be no winners and losers. Everybody is same. No Rich,No poor,No ruler,No ruled .Jealous people created the word uniform as they can't tolerate others style and uniqueness. They want others to drag them down to their level because they can't reach to that level and cover it with so called ugly word uniform by doing makeup to the word to make it looks and sounds beautiful.Because it hurts ones happiness when others are different. For ones happiness one expects to sacrifice other people happiness in the name of uniform. One has to teach children Since childhood uniqueness,diversity and individuality to them not uniformity. One has to embrace diversity. Individuality and uniqueness is the essence of humans. Religion have their own identity, paths, uniqueness. Religion without religious laws are humans without skeleton. UCC is like cutting the part,surgery to religion or changing the whole body (transmigration)when in fact just tablet or injection is sufficient to treat minor illnesses. Small amendmemts are sufficient but changing the whole act. In short UCC is taking away the substance but trying to keeping the form.Form without substance is uselss, baseless, shapeless. DCC is good (Diversity civil code) as is existing right now, not UCC . ICC (Individual Civil Code) is much more good than DCC but the state resources and Intelligence are not sufficient to implement. So atleast DCC is better. Celebrate diversity not uniformity. Give people a choice to choose uniformity or diversity. Don't impose. DCC strengthens religious diversity but UCC weakens religious diversity. But the truth is majority students(people) doesn't like uniform, they likes always Friday where they can show off their diversity . Friday is personal code.Remaining days will be okay to impose uniform penal, civil, economic codes on all people. Just give a choice to the couple that will be good. Like we have Indian succession act as well as religion specific act like hindu succession act. And those who want to follow their religion staunchly UCC is definitely an obstacle. UCC is taking away the religious identity. Then why different religions are needed. Just impose one religion on all people URRC (Uniform Religious Rituals Code). Just homogenize india completely. Government is trying to achieve UCC through revolution(complete change like changing the whole personal law)instead of evolution(gradual change like amendments). That means people follows religion or religious laws or pray or fast or abstain from doing any sacrilegious things whenever they feels convenient not according to their religion. People feels so painful to give up one religion completely but they expects others to give up their religious laws for the sake of UCC completely. Religion is nothing without religious laws. Only a shallow stupid will ask people to be religion less , not only it makes false equivalence of considering all religions as equal, but completely negates how societies are formed. Even from utilitarian perspective without collective imagination humans can not form large societies, thus religion is inevitable, which religion is a only question. See the irony after UCC, different religion's follow their traditions, culture, values, principles, beliefs, but incase the problem comes they will be seeking solution from secular laws instead of religious laws. Marry according to hindu tradition,follow hindu rituals but claim maintenance and divorce according to UCC rituals(laws). Reasonable maintenance should be provided. Issue of bigamy or polygamy is there. I support bigamy or polygamy. Bigamy or polygamy should not be an offence. It has to regulate. When three people loves a single person stubbornly,with free consent law should not have any business in others private life. They can't forcefully seperate those four people through sanction of law. Those marriages are like miracles.Who want to share their wife or husband with someone else.It happens very rarely. We have to allow those rarest couples. The tragedy of law is it can seperate but it cannot unite. Love has that beauty to unite through freedom. Religious laws are like basic structure to the Religion like Constitution.One can't change the whole Constitution. Amendments are good according to times. First of all your headline is very illogical....What do you mean by "Is India ready for UCC"? When the constituion treats every citizen equal and hence its natural that all laws should be applied for all equally.

There is no need for UCC right now. Because india is a thiestic country where the religion is the essence to reach the god. And following religious principles and rules in the areas where it doesn't affect country's progress in any way,UCC shouldn't comes as an obstacle to ones own religion. This is the country where majority of the religious people cant perform their daily duties with peace if they skip their daily prayer according to ones religion.UCC takes away the essence of religion. And what is religion comprising of. How to Pray, when to pray, how to marry,how many to marry,how to perform marriage ritual, ceremony,when to marry,how to lead a married life, how to divorce,birth,children,how much to give maintenance ,guardianship etc. Penal laws are almost same all over the country, Economic laws like taxation are same all over the country irrespective of religion ,the unbelievable unity in diversity is there in india and what more a country needs for a peace and progress of the country. Maybe Something a country needs definitely like reducing corruption,poverty,investments, upskilling of people but definitely not UCC.With all these secular laws soon india will lose the golden charm which is spreading to foreign soils since years that is Unity in Diversity and will turn india into other countries like Unity in Similarity, Disunity in Diversity . It is making mixed fruit juice of all the religious laws where state is removing individuality of each fruit (religion) where some people are not healthy to eat or drink all the fruits,where some doesn't likes to eat or drink some other fruit and trying to force feed all the people through secular fruits(laws) in the name of health(progress and integration). UCC is making essence of religion also secular. Secularism is slowly trying to pervade and transgress into religious domain in the name of progress and ultimately it effaces the religion completely it seems. With this UCC Code,Religion exists in form but all the substances which makes the form solid from inside out they are making it shallow by removing all the personal laws which are the real substance. हम मन्दिर मे आर्थी को जाता तो कभी-कभी प्रासाद मिलता हैं. लेकीन जब चर्च मे होली मास या prayers karthaa तो प्रसाद कभी भी नही मिलता. UCC आयेंगे तो क्य़ा प्रासाद मन्दिर औऱ चर्च मे से हमेशा milenga क्य़ा?
