The Unihertz Titan is a giant keyboard phone that looks like a BlackBerry Passport, but the real question is whether it's the Android BlackBerry phone that we've been waiting for?

Great review For $339 its a steal Build quality is fantastic! Dust + Water + Impact resistant Keyboard build is solid... an improvement over the passport. Like the passport the 1:1 ratio is natural for productivity Toggling minimode solves the ratio cut off problem... Programmed the red magic key to do this with ease. I prefer the 1:1 working wide ratio. Stock camera app is okay but I chose cameraMX app which brings me quality photos on this phone. Loaded blackberry launcher and suite which gives me the blackberry experience and blackberry hub integration! Titan is now my daily driver! Coming from a keyone silver...Passport OG... Classic.... Q10... Torch.... Been a blackberry devotee for years. For $339 I am more than satisfied with this unique and quirky niche phone.... Hats off to Unihertz for pulling this off. Their support through their two Facebook pages is swift and responsive... A small and agile niche manufacturer. You've got to admit it was pretty brave of them to take the chance on this form factor in this market of candybar glass slab phones.

The phone has been great because I write many reports for my job using a special app for the company that I work for. It does all the tasks that I need very well. The price point was fantastic. Thanks for the review! This and others like it led me to recently purchase the original Titan, which I've been daily driving happily for a couple weeks (displaced a Pixel 4, which I hated with an abiding passion). Yes, I know it's a couple years old now and that the Titan Pocket release is imminent (probably), but I love the battery, aesthetic, and especially the screen resolution of the OG. One point I'd make to other viewers: Every review I've read is narrowly focused on why the Titan is or isn't like a BlackBerry, but that ignores another possibly relevant customer demographic (of which I'm a member): People who've never used a BB, but had and loved other QWERTY phones! 15 years on and I still miss my HTC WinCE Excalibur / Dash, which is probably the last mobile device I actually truly liked before the current phone design paradigm of "slippery, black, buttonless, portless, expansionless mirrors" took hold. Long live keyboards, buttons, ports, and big ass batteries!

I have the Titan and the BlackBerry Key2 and if you are trying to go for a click accurate keyboard, Key2 is the way to go. The titan is good, but the Titans keyboard is not AS satisfying. Both great phones. Seriously. But Key2 is noticeably smoother in a lot of aspects.

I really hope the presence of this phone makes Blackberry reconsider a new smartphone for 2020 onwards. The keyboard indeed doesn't compare to a Blackberry's. Only thing that I did to make it feel like a BB keyboard was install BB keyboard app but still doesn't compare. One thing Blackberry can learn from the Titan is the IP68 build and waterproof physical keyboard for their future designs. P.S. Blackberry got back to me on my inquiry for them to reconsider a new smartphone line and said they would forward my inquiry to an internal specific group so let's see what happens but really encourage you @Techodyssey to also make your piece with Blackberry Head Office and maybe just maybe, when many seek them out for a new smartphone line, even on a small scale, they may reconsider.

I was a Blackberry user and it didn't take me long to adjust to the Titan's keyboard at all... It's second nature now... You can configure the home button to operate your smart assistant of choice... I have my Titan configured to use the Blackberry launcher and Blackberry keyboard with the magic key configured for symbols just like the 'sym' key on the recent Blackberry physical keyboards... If any Blackberry keyboard user is concerned about security they shouldn't use any Blackberry apart from the Key2 and that has probably had it's last security update... Unihertz have promised a security update, however remains to be seen if it arrives... For the price there is no better current (not end of sales/life) pkb phone around...

I have the Titan from the campaign. Mine has Intermittent issue keeping an open screen when making and receiving calls! There's quite a few available actions, like the keyboard and speaker phone that I can not access when the screen turns off. Really hurts when put on call transfers to specific departments. I can't press 1 or 2 or 0 or any numbers because the screen goes dark as soon as the call is made or received. Otherwise yes, for the price I paid I'm happy with. Yes the view is limited as you mentioned which is sometimes annoying but not a major issue. The dark screen issue is, and I would not buy another without that working properly. Nice video and content, thank you

And get used to the flaws you mentioned quickly as haven't used a blackberry in years. I'm guessing it's very heavy I have big hand's so should be okay. One of the best feature of my Blackberry Passport (hands down the best phone I've ever had, up until Whatsapp stopped working on it and I was forced to switch to Android) was the typing experience. Not just because of the physical keyboard, but because of the amazing BB10 OS typing software, which allowed me to swipe up on either the left, middle or right side of the keyboard in order to enter the suggested word. @@JMIZZLE7 No, the Key 3 was already made. Last year at my LCBO in Leaside, I spoke with a shareholder and he had just returned from the Toronto conference meeting. They discussed when to launch it but too many other devices hit the market. The Key 3 was a very minor upgrade to the Key 2 with mostly its texture and feel from what I saw. I was not allowed to take a picture of it. By no means was it going to be a "step-up", it was almost like a bug-fix getting the product right. My thinking was this was the actually final stage of what TCL wanted to accomplish.

@NYTOC

@@JMIZZLE7 It was to be released for May of last year in the hopes of re-releasing the Priv 2. Unfortunately there were just too many iphones and other toys in the market; Blackberry was still a "tool" device. My firm belief is that Waterlook to Ottawa move is the shift BB is working towards in getting Blackberry OS back in line.

Can the lack of security updates from the manufacturer be overcome with the installation of one the leading paid mobile security app?

Not sure. I haven't done any research into that.

If the answer was positive, this could mitigate the risk of not having frequent security updates from the manufacturer. I guess that the regular Android updates from Google should work in tandem with the Security app. Considering your influence with suppliers, you should be able to get straight answers from those in position to know.

Do you think you'll ever reproduce your 50wpm like you did with the Classic? As for security, is some kind of app or software one could download? I do kind of like it. But, I think the Priv may have spoiled me. I mean, that's a big ol' phone to have a mere 4.5 inch screen. ;-)

Do you plan to review the F(x)tec Pro-1 or the Planet Computers Astro Slide 5G? They're both shipping now according to the companies and seem to have great keyboard designs (although, as always, lesser functionality with other options).

@@ruslbicycle6006 Was only able to get rid of CoolReaper (at least i hope i did) via temporary root and deleting the system update and weather apps and their failsafe's. Took me a long time to find out that way though. No clue how to deal with adubs fota though. Both are malware installed by the manufacturers so always handle with care.
