I have been with Blackberry for the last 6 years and I have been very impressed with their phones. I heard they had a bad time with their phones the year the iphone came out but if you bought a blackberry from Blackberry Q10 to the current Key2. They are excellent! But I am excited to try out the Titan. Just ordered one last night!
IBEX KING I may be a bit late, but honestly, the Unihertz Titan is amazing :) Last week, I was dared to jump into a pond, and well I did it, but I forgot to pull out my Titan. It survived just fine. Back in March, my wife yeeted my Titan at a rat, later explaining to me, that our silverware and dishes were just "too valuable" to do such thing. Well, the Titan survived just fine, the rat had, let’s say, a worse fate. Typing ist absolutely decent as well! :)
Someone needs to kickstart an actual BlackBerry phone....The Passport and its keyboard is awesome and needs to get some updated hardware under the cover. BB10 is awesome too...too bad they couldn't get an updated Android runtime to go inside of BB10 as a sandbox for the occasional android app needed . Seems like BlackBerry these days is all about Securing all smart devices (including cars buts that's a separate story) to allow employees to roam, be at home or anywhere, while protecting company assets or secrets from hacks. Just like BlackBerry phones of old. Even if i'm not using corporate software, I prefer my business, to remain only my business and not have anonymous companies or 3rd parties who I don't know their business, knowing my business, I already have a Big Brother for real.
excellent review video. i always knew i would be getting one of these (lifelong blackberry fan) and this phone has the 3 main main things im looking for (physical keyboard, massive battery, built like a brick). This review makes me want one even more, will get my hands one one soon, thanks from the UK
Seeing that Blackberry has kicked TCL to the curb, it doesn't appear that we'll be having any new BB devices. Support ends in about four months for us Key2 users. This might be a good alternative.
The keyboard is capacitive for scrolling just like the BB Passport! You can turn it on in settings. IP67 water and dust resistance. A first for a PKB phone. Oh, and I got in early on the Kickstarter campaign and purchased mine for $199.
Lucky. The cheapest I found on the website was for like 320. And it's for pre order. Is this phone still not released? Because I checked the release date and it said December 19th 2019 I'm confused.
Very in depth review. Had the BB Passport then the Priv and now am using a Key One. The KeyOne is now starting to show its age and am considering buying this phone. So far good reviews here on youtube.
The unofficial Blackberry Passport 2.0 - I definitely want one! Since Blackberry as a company is pathetic and sad now, it's nice to see someone on the ball who is doing something they should have done.
Thank You, Lon! I really appreciate your review of this phone. I just ordered one of these to replace my Blackberry Classic 10 Phone until the new Android Blackberry is finally released from On Ward Mobility. Yes, I'm one of the Blackberry Diehards who loves the physical keyboards! Verizon is my carrier, so I will have to insert the active SIM card as you advised. Thanks Again!
Good review. Thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort. I'm currently using a BlackBerry KeyOne but pre-ordered one of the Titans yesterday after learning that TCL will no longer be making BlackBerry branded phones. The Titan looks like an excellent value, given its price point. Fingers crossed.
Really like what they've done with this device. Don't really love the lower end specifications though compared with other devices within the same price point.
Damn lon was thinking about that kickstarter campaign from what I'm seeing you showing off it would have been the perfect beast to replace my old curve
I preordered this one but found it way too heavy, the keys were not always recognized and the screen for some reason was weirdly sensitive and when scrolling, it sometimes "clicked" on whatever and send me another place. Definitely NOT like the BlackBerry Passport nor the Key2 (which I'm using to write this right now). I also tried the Fx tec Pro which is a slider type phone and that one is even worse in the keyboard department. Again, all of this is my opinion, as I've seen others enjoy them. In the meantime, I hope TCL comes with another BlackBerry soon... maybe a vertical slider like the BlackBerry Priv!!! How I would love that! Good review. Thanks!
Curious to know - can you assign a push-button (perhaps the middle top button) as a call answer button? I detest the screen swipe to answer calls on my Q10, it's so iffy and often doesn't answer properly (or the software subsystem that detects this hangs and the call is lost).
Ive been a BlackBerry fan due to security and encryption technology the phone comes with. My worry is that you sacrifice security for convenience with this device. I have had android phones hacked before and that's why I keep going back to BlackBerry. Do you think with the installation of extra security and encryption software this device can be as good as BlackBerry?
Do you think UniHertz came up with a phone design for the Titan?or is it just a tear down of a BlackBerry Passport and basically a bulkier copy now running Android..which the original Passport was rumoured to be capable of...but not allowed to be, rumoured to possibly be due to Google screen dimension limitations.
I bought the Unihetz Atom a few months ago. The rubber that wraps around the entire phone has begin to peel off or de laminate however you want to call it. The phone is about 3 months old and its yea peeling away like a snake shedding its skin. Over the net I have seen this is a problem with other buyers. I did try contact Unihertz support but as they are in China, it will take months for them to look at it and then replace it. Bit dissapointing.
Great for physical keyboard lovers. I'm in the market for a still current removable battery phone with decently high specs. I'm a budget guy so I'm sticking to the last of the Samsung Galaxy J3's, and amusingly with down/upgrading to the much older Samsung Galaxy S5. As of 2020 I only know of the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4s which came out summer 2019. Kinda sucks for us who want End-user serviceability in the modern era.
Doesn't suck for anyone with half a brain. All smart phones have removable batteries.. Most of the time it only takes 2 small torx screws to remove the housing, and the batteries are held in place by two strips of adhesive with tabs to pull, then just detach the ribbon cable and you can take the battery out. The whole process takes less than 2 minutes so I don't see how it becomes a problem
@@Rooxie973 Hate to say, easy tool-less removal that just requires a finger. Quickchange scenario doesn't require too much time especially in the field. Also some phones like the Google Pixel require the screen to be broken in order to get at the battery which is a pain to take apart according to some repair folks and the people who own them who do not have warranty protections.
@@ChonbaeSun Like I said, anyone with half a brain. I've replaced a pixel battery, and the battery can be replaced without doing any damage to the phone. All you need to do is lightly heat the adhesive, but you know what the solution to that is? Don't buy a pixel. I have owned several modern smart phones that have 2 torx screws at the base that can be removed permanently, this allows you to remove the sim tray and have instant access to your battery at any time by removing the rear housing ... I honestly don't see how you have this idea that the batteries are inaccessible
@@Rooxie973 "anyone with half a brain." You're simply near-sighted. I'm talking of a quick change battery out in field scenerio without tools aside from the finger in terms of end-user serviceability. Yours is with tools possible in less chaotic environment on a flat surface. Try to do your example in a chaotic environment where you're standing up on the move without losing every bit and piece and especially under a minute. Which is the scenerio very real on my end as someone who lives-streams long events. There's the cable and power bank solution which is an obvious, even a 3rd party battery case. Both of which are not ideal in particular to me as someone who prefer lightweight setup in this case. Thus my preference for the Samsung's Galaxy J3 and Samsung Galaxy S5. Not gonna go any further with the silly argument. I prefer the fast simple easy on easy off drop-in which is still available on low-end devices vs. the complicated time consuming which requires tools with the other.
@@ChonbaeSun which is what I just described. Remove the screws on the housing so the battery can be removed at any time without tools, as long as you are able to remove the sim tray beforehand
Omg I want to make a bad financial decision rn and buy this....I'm not in the market to buy a new phone but I really dont like all glass phones and miss my blackberry so much.... 😥
A screen that's square like that could be a good Instagram phone. Like the Blackberry Passport was supposed to be except there was no Instagram for Blackberry 10 OS.
And everyone on crackberry said Android wouldn't work on a 4:3 screen so no Passport II. Yet here we are. I have the Atom which is an awesome phone and I also use a Passport for kindle books, the Titan will be a nice upgrade. I am waiting on Amazon.
It's actually not a great Instagram phone. The images stretch weirdly. In fact, one of the software upgrades is to change res so that output comes out better for some apps.
That's my main concern too. I would love to own a device like this but Adups plus Unihertz being a Chinese company is preventing me from buying this device.
@@idomnychireno Perhaps a pinephone with a clamshell keyboard addon (which has a 5,000 MAH battery inside the keyboard addon) is in your future. They should release the keyboards early next year if the prototypes go to plan.
Unihertz should enable a full screen mode on internet, where the top status bar disappears as well the keyboard portion of screen, so you get maximized screen real estate. Also, they should have zoom out options, etc. I asked them if they would a slim version of this same phone, so we can slip in to our dress shirt pockets.
This is a device I've kept my eye on but I am worried about lack of future Android support. I'd go back to Blackberry running Android in a heartbeat just for the physical keyboard. That's the one thing I miss the most :(
@@drg19841 I think I like this implementation more than a stock Blackberry. I still contend one of the reasons for Blackberry's slip in popularity was the inability to innovate in design. The Blackberry Curve was innovative as well as the Torch and even the Passport. But then they dug in their heels while other companies starting trying to out Apple the iPhone. Blackberry got stuck in the same way Microsoft did.
Wish you would review the smaller version. Definitely interested in it. Filled out info on Kickstarter so I suppose the factory in Asia will contact me as to take advantage in their "K" offer. Smaller version might be a stand in for BB "classic." Thank you.
Got me excited for a second but it's waaay too big to use with one hand like a proper Blackberry, it's weird that so many companies seem intent on trying to make a successor to the failed BB Passport model when a proper BB Bold reinvention would sell like crazy :(
Using it for 2 weeks, big and heavy. Keyboard good not up to Passport or Key2. Impressed by the build quality as I was expecting it to be on the cheap side and it is not. Screen is great, camera and speaker ok. Cannot get the Hub to run, been trying and trying. Installed - deinstalled the app, you name it, that is one of the reasons for buying this phone to stay with Hub. Overall it is a good phone, as a previous Passport (best phone ever), Key1 and now Key2 to compare it to. Do not drop it as it will break your foot.
Can you use the buttons as shortcuts as like on blackberry key2? How many hours or days does the battery lasts? still having the key2 but this might be my next.
@@Jackerola Have not tied any shortcuts on the Kb so I can't comment. Battery lie is absurd, i used it all day (work) for a soldi 5 hours and it was still at 65% life. Batter is a huge plus if that is what your looking for. Id you pick up the K2 after the Titan, the titan feels and is YUUUGGE.
6000mAh for a budget phone is pretty killer. My Asus ROG Phone 2 gives me 10h heavy SoT with its SD 855+. You'll easily get 2 days of usage out of the budget chipset that this phone has.
I personally would have preferred a 5 row bb keyboard but they probably could not fully copy BlackBerry keyboard because of copyrights. Also the speed key function of the Key2 devices are nice to have as well which is missing on this phone.
You better hope unihertz. Isn't using usps for deliveries. That swine flu 2 Outbreak. HAS caused United Post Office to suspend service. To and from there. Yikes.
Instead of 1*1 ratio, 3.1 inch screen ..If the screen ratio is 4*3 wide , 3.5 inch ,it will be more ergonomically pleasant... I think it take away the phones attractiveness when the screen is square..
