I work with heavy steel building powerstations in the UK anything upto 20 ton beams 10ft deep and 17 ton columns topping out 6 high from 185ft MEWPs. Hard graft 90% of men couldnt do and this is why i respect my fellow Steel erectors world wide. From the 🇬🇧 stat safe!

Watching this video made me home sick. I retired in 2015 after 37 years of bangin' and clangin' in the iron patch. You're doing a good job, your crane operator looks like he's kinda new at this. When I bring in a piece I always take it to you at your lug. If it is coming in sideways give it a touch off a column to get it turning and head to your connector. You don't need to chase the tag, wait for me at your lug and I'll put it in your hand at chest height. Why did I post that? Because maybe a crane operator that wants to learn will read this and get an idea on how it should be done. Subscribed.

I'll add some stuff just for grins. I will never come at you from the Sun. I will pass above or on my way toward the lug and bring the piece in so you can see it. I will not bring a piece to you when it's seesawing the pointy end in and out, especially if you're sitting on a column. I'll come to you from the side. Once a guy gets an end, I'll automatically bring the other end to the other connector. When you cut me loose, turn the hooks away from yourself and hold them out until they clear. When you give the UpUp or Down Down sign make sure you mean it. Once you light that fuse bad shit can happen quick. Hanging a piece or hook at full throttle is more than exciting and the rig pinballing down through the iron is pretty memorable too. And quit with the boom down and hold the load if you need 6 inches, There are 100 or more feet of cable hanging over you, push the piece over and get a spud in it, I ain't got all day to set 3 pieces. Knock off the swing to the side to help pull a piece in, that same 100 plus feet ensures the only thing you are doing is side-loading the jib, add that to the bad idea column.

@@chicagomikey6416 I'll guess you don't know what a column is because they are everywhere in the video.

Lmao dude watch again. I get what you're saying but why lower the load beneath them just to bump it? I think you should watch again.
@Craneman4100w
@Craneman4100w 2 месяца назад
@@chicagomikey6416 Nobody said anything about lowering the load beneath them. You really have no clue dude. You're sitting around coming up with ideas that have no basis in what I'm saying or how any of it relates to this work. I have over 40 years as an operator and quite a few of those setting iron. What are your credentials?

Goodmorning big dawg. I've had numerous operators tell me they don't need the EASY at the end of a signal, they want footage of signal. 5 feet cable down, 3 feet, 1 feet, inches. Stop. But to me it's all crane operator preference. Stay safe big dawg.

And when ur giving distances on cable down or up. U don’t hav to be exact the distance more or less tells us how fast we should do the function. So most cases if u say cable down 50 feet. I’m ripping that shit down tell u tell me 15-10-5 then I slow down. Now if ur giving distances on boom down or up. U should be a little more accurate since u might be dealing with capacity in some cases. When u work with and operator for some time u both will adjust to how each other work together. 🫡

When you need a few inches tell the operator down or up a hole. Commands like that paint a picture for the operator. If you tell me DownDown or UpUp that means I'm clear to haul ass.

Ok listen. Most jobs that ironworker phone men are what's called "In the blind" right. So say your phone man on a 38:story guy derrick job. Let's say a 100ton American hoist in the basement where the operator sits all day with head phones on. Usually flooded a bit in basements. So he's pulling levers. He has no clue how much weight is on his wire. A shithouse or a half a truck come by up in a bitch line right? If you don't tell him easy or let him know otherwise by feet or inches you could kill every swinging dick on the working floor. Hell you might make it to the basement where the hoist us. That's just me be example one time ONE time is all it takes. So? Wich way you going to give signals?; "Down Down!:5: seconds later say "High!"? The hoist keeps fleeting out wire man. Ok? So keep it the same. Good habits keep us alive.
