The Big Boy is mechanical art in motion, as the Spitfire is flying art. I miss the Big Boy when it was at the RailGiants Museum in Pomona----but I know that she is better off now.
If it wasn't for Pomona taking care of Big Boy while it was there we might not have had a restoration. 4014 was in the best condition by far out of the other 7.
Great video! No matter how many videos or pix of the Big Boy I see, I never get tired. I don't know about other locomotives, but this one definitely does and knows that she is center of attention and enjoying the attention.
What a magnificent monster. She was in control of the rails. It's as if she knew it. I know it's a "Big Boy", but that is one heck of a steam sweetheart. Thanks, Deanna for the wonderful footage. Just a treat.
Oh my thx DeAnn...and coffee in hand...GREAT footage....that would have been exciting to b on highway and cruise with it....thx again , hope you're bak next Sunday again....
The previous two replies, as humorous as they are, aside, it is stated in an annotation in the video that the 4014 was converted to burn oil during its rebuild back to operation.
@@dmphillips 4014 was equipped with a form of PTC that was built to be run off of the PTC computers in the diesel, but from what I was told by someone in the Union Pacific Steam Club bookFace group, 4014 has now been equipped with a fully standalone PTC system, so technically, 4014 could go out on the high iron by itself and be completely compliant with modern safety regulations and systems, though I'm willing to bet we'll not see that unless someone in the higher echelons of Uncle Pete's decides to order it be done, or something similar to what happened to get 3985 on the head end of a 143 car double stack train in the 90's happens with 4014.
@justahillbilly7777 Thank you for the update, I was under some old info. That would be interesting, seeing Big Boy back in revenue service, but with today's "problems" parts wouldn't be easily accessible and very expensive.
Just a thought here: What ever happened to Made in America. Went to Home Depot for a new doorknob, they all were made in china.... Almost everything that is manufactured comes from china. Sorry for my rant, but really.....
