This synth looks so classy! The brushed metal panel wooden end cheeks add to the vintage appeal, and the OLED oscilloscope is the modern cherry on top. The sounds are of course incredible. It’s amazing just how far a characterful pairing of oscillators and filters can get you, especially when modulation options are limited. I like how this board is more or less a complete instrument, like a Juno or Minimoog with its vast sweet spots. You can almost let it guide you. Great stuff as always!
It’s a fingerprint magnet, but I love the sound. Really easy to coax totally usable sounds out of it. One of my faves. Jexus shows a lot of the crazy range of timbres it can hit. I love this thing!
Holy Crap, you friggin NAILED this aesthetic. I agree with everything you are saying hear via audio and video. This captures some weird moment in the late 70s-80s when everything has a gross over-saturated feel.
Nice patches! You have inspired me to spend more time with my Korg Monologue. The entire "logue" series is quite sophisticated and capable of wonderful sounds.
The Monologue was my first synth and the main culprit behind why I now spend time watching videos like this and buying more of them lmao! Still a great little Monosynth
Yes it is. I still have my Prologue 8 from... 2019 ish. The demo they shipped me had an Anaheim address, so I assume it was one shown at NAAM. The best modern synthesizer for Half-Life, Metroid sounds. @@Jexus
I remember seeing the intro to Korg Prolougue when it first came out. I thought wow, that sounds really good. It wasn't just a response to other makers, but its own interesting style...I suppose. I had it up there to want and try it.
As always a very inspiring video, thank you. I have the Minilogue XD and have considered buying the Prologue. The extra voices and bi-timbral voices are tempting. I don't think the basic sounds of the synths are very different. To me at least the sequencer and 1 shot LFO mode make the Minilogue a better buy, you essentially get an extra LFO and envelope. I can live with 4 voices, I can always multitrack but the sound is big enough to not often make that necessary.
For some reason I can’t answer to your comment on the previous Korg prologue video, but thanks for the details and will definitely look into getting my hands on one! They seemed discontinued tho so it’ll be second hand
I love that you love the Prologue. After having it and loving it but getting better at sound design and learning more about making patches, I started to resent the lack of a big mod matrix etc, but I think that just means I'd like to also own something like a Take 5 or Rev 2. When I sit down at the Prologue just looking to make music with patches I've already designed, or in a clear state of mind of just making sounds and following where it takes me, I am never disappointed. Can't imagine ever parting with it.
Amazing review. I've got the prophet rev2 16voice -- given your expertise, would you mind sharing thoughts on what I'm missing? I just picked up my first Korg recently and loved the dirty/aggro tone (ms-20). I've spent about 5 minutes on a prologue, but in that time felt like the poly I had was comparable.
Rev 2 and Prologue seem pretty comparable except for two things: rev-2 very modulatable due to deep matrix, prologue sounds super organic / dirty / soft from the get-go without much modulations.
I wish I understood the digital oscillator and how it mixes into the main sound… With the success of the minilogue XD you’de think a 16 voice one would be more popular!!!
Using RU-vidr language I'd say yeah it's unbelievably, ridiculously more awesome and amazing and sounds really good and you should buy it using my affiliate link. But if we stop treating each other like idiots, I'd just say it's the polyphony that's cooler and gives you more opportunity to make pads and stuff. Other than that it's pretty much the same synth. XD has the cool sequencer of course.
Sequencer (people really love the XD's, Prologue only has an Arpeggiator), and one of the envelope options are the main ones I think. Possibly something with the FX too but I might be mixing that up with the original Minilogue vs the XD/Prologue.
@@pedrofreire6169 They both have FX, the XD has three separate slots (Mod, Reverb, Delay) and the Prologue only two (Mod and pick one of Reverb/Delay at a time). XD doesn't have an extra envelope, but it does have a different envelope option for the EG envelope, you can assign it to pitch 1/2/cutoff like on the Monologue. I think you may be able to do something similar in the menus on the Prologue
