Hi everyone!
Did you know it's only 30 cents more to go all the way up to the crown of the Statue of Liberty?? What's the catch you ask? Well you need to book in advance, sometimes 6 months to a year in advance...
BUT with a bit of luck and mostly planning, you can experience a tight and thrilling climb and see NYC from a whole different view!
We highly recommend this as a unique thing to do while in NYC. This ticket includes the ferry ride to and from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island!!
To book your own crown tickets go to the official website: www.cityexperiences.com/new-y...
This is in no way sponsored, we just wanted to share this experience with you. We hope you enjoy the journey!
Thanks for watching 💕

When my mother and I climbed to the crown in about 1948, the crown was open (no windows). I raced ahead of my mom and grabbed one of the vertical bars of the opening. I leaned out in order to read the tablet -- no mom or security to stop me --. The tablet reads July 4, 1776, per my memory. In 1956, I was the first in my High Scholl class to walk to the top of the Washington Monument. Today, at 85, I can still climb stairs, but many fewer.

what a perfect day you picked to visit. Having the stunning RMS Queen Mary 2 at her Brooklyn berth seen on a sunny day from the crown is an impressive picture. Definitely adds to the historic importance, thinking of all the people who have sailed into NY harbor past the SoL while on the decks of all the Cunard Transatlantic liners makes this view even more incredible. Thanks for sharing!

I went with my family when I was a teen back in the early 1970's long before the renovations. It was a hot summer's day and the thermometer at the site said that the temperature inside the statue was 120 degrees! Still we made it up the narrow shakey looking stairs, not like the nice ones in the video that they have today. It was very very slow moving with people crammed in front and in back of you. I remember one of the windows in the crown had a crack in it. Still all in all it was a memorable experience though one that my very claustrophobic today self would ever do! It's not for the faint of heart.

Hi 👋! That's exciting! I definitely recommend the high line park and "the Summit One Vanderbilt" where you can see maginificent views of both the empire state and the chrysler building. As far as places to eat, 2nd Ave deli has amazing pastrami. If you're into steak with delicious food and a rich history, definitely hands down Keens Sreakhouse (Babe Ruth and Teddy Roosevelt ate there). We made a video of NYC cafés if you're curious - we love Ladurée in soho. Hope this helps!

Hi @janicescott7123! Devin is 6 ft and was ok but he definitely had to watch his head a few times. You can see how it was for him coming down at 6:58. If your son is taller, he may need to crouch a little bit but there are stops when you are heading both up and down. They also don't let too many people in all at once, so he can definitely take his time. There is an elevator to the pedestal for you. I hope your surgery goes well and that you both enjoy your time in NYC! :)

What happens if someone who makes it to the crown suddenly has a medical emergency? Like a heart attack, a stroke, a seizure, etc? Does the Statue's staff just have to let the person die?

Actually, it's funny, you ask. This happened to us last summer when we went back again. A lady fainted inside the crown, and all 4 of us (the 2 of us + 2 of them) were stuck up there with an officer until the EMS arrived. Since it's so small, we had to wait for them to come and examine her, about 15 minutes total. It seems, they have EMS and police staff on the island. It was an interesting experience! They do have a tiny elevator for absolute emergencies only too

@@aKnightlyStory Wow! So someone fainted up there, and they did not consider that to be an emergency?
@aKnightlyStory

@johnvem949 i dont think she collapsed thankfully but got very overheated and very dizzy. We came when she was just recuperating, so I'm not too sure what all went down. After the EMS examined her, they walked to the platform right under the statue's head, and then the young lady and the EMS person took the elevator (since it doesn't actually reach the head). The boyfriend and police officer had to walk all the way down since the elevator only fits 2 people. Was a crazy experience and definitely made the small space feel even smaller! Thankfully, she was ok. As far as bigger issues like stroke, heart attacks, and such, it would be very tricky as they would probably have to carry them down at least one flight of narrow stairs until the elevator. I'm sure they are used to it, though 🤔

Hi there. Unfortunately the crown cannot be reached using an elevator - that is stairs only. However, there is an elevator to the pedestal (below the feet of the statue). To give you an idea, the view from the pedestal is at 3:32 in our video Here is more info if you need: www.statueoflibertytickets.com/faq/?gclid=CjwKCAjwrpOiBhBVEiwA_473dHtMLdWAMaWDLak80gkRbR5SpVsgar8lgt12yS7Cd0yFy3QcgwLS7BoCkQsQAvD_BwE#29

There appears to be an elevator that goes to the pedestal but not the crown

If they can’t climb simple stairs I guess they waited too many years to go visit the statue

How fit do you have to be to get to the top I wonder??

Hi 👋 honestly it's not as bad as it seems. There are several places to stop and take breaks along the way. The more challenging part is how narrow the stairs are from the pedestal to the crown. As far as fitness, I would say moderate level. We saw people were a range of different ages. Hope it helps!

The crown is still open for visitors, although you do need to reserve at least 3-4 months in advance. The torch is not open to the public however.

What a great video...brought back a flood of memories. I climbed up to the crown in 1982 as a 20 year old (I'm 62 now). I completely remember that narrow, one way up/one way down staircase to climb from the pedestal. We were only allowed to stay in the crown for certain amount of time (can't remember that part). Also, some of the crown's windows were actually missing and you felt the wind blowing inside. The other part I remember (laughingly) is if someone ahead you on the staircase "tooted", you got to bathe in the fragrance LMAO! 🤣
