The Colman Solar Car Charger OBD II ( amzn.to/3JHCrXr ) is a way to bypass the typical cigarette lighter charging method to directly trickle charge most vehicles 1996 and newer.
One could theoretically do the same with this adapter: amzn.to/2IwUz6k and a solar panel in the car as well.

The Coleman trickle charger gets complaints for not having an LED indicator to indicate if it's charging ok.

Hi, nice. I have the 2.5v model, no obd. I have a portable battery used to boost cars and charge devices. To charge it, it has a wall plug. Is there a way to connect these coleman panels to a battery, maybe using the wall plug? I have an inverter that would be put into a lighter socket - male. The solar panel as you show also has a lighter connecter. I was thinking of plugging the battery wall socket plug into the inverter. And if i connect the male socket adapter the solar panel has, now i have two male lighter socket inserts, one requesting power and one supplying power. Do you know how i would connect those? Or is there a way to use the cables or clamps on the solar panel to connect to the lighter male socket on the inverter that the battery is plugged into. Basically again using the coleman to charge this booster battery. Diagram would be easier. Thx.

I almost need a female connector i guess. The tip of the male lighter plug is positive and the spring down the body is negative, i wonder if i just need to attach solar panels wires or alligator clips to those? If so do i need to connect to both of the negatives. I am so out of my element here.

Yes. It can help, but I know my dashcams consume more than 3.5 watts of power. My 4k ones with LTE consume up to 10 watts. So... while it will help with the drain it may not be enough. You can use the adapter with a more powerful solar in that case. This is what I use now for my car that sits outside most of the time: amzn.to/3AZOHRa or amzn.to/3wJC8ad

People say polarity is reversed on this panel so you need to attach to opposite battery terminals is that correct?

If you use the obd adapter it’s all good. Not sure about the alligator clips, so good idea to check to make sure there wasn’t someone putting the wrong polarity on.
