I learned of this unit while reading a book about the _Kempeitai_ nearly 15 years ago. Thank you for publishing an episode about this horror. It is doubly necessary because 1) the post-war Japanese governments have successfully portrayed the Japanese Empire, and its people, as "victims" during WWII, and 2) the Asian version of Operation Paperclip by the USA. @@user-vr6gl2lc8n Yeah and that's not even the tip of the iceberg. The allies committed the largest mass vrape in modern history in Berlin. Females aged 6-60 were done in broad daylight by the Soviet barbarians. Under Eisenhower 1,000,000 German POW's were intentionally starved after the war had ended in efforts of "de-nazifying". Even though most of those men were Wehrmacht and not political soldiers. The British caused the worst famine in Bengal history leading to the vanishment of 4,000,000 people as they stole food from the locals in an effort to stop the advancing Japanese. The Japanese would eventually push the British back, so another war crime done without purpose(like nagasaki and hiroshima) Relentless bombings of civilian, non-military, and non-industrial centers happened by the allies. The allies repeatedly sank merchant ships carrying food and supplies MEANT for allied POW's in Japan, essentially starving their own people. The Japanese soldiers often did not have enough food or supplies for themselves. Yet no accountability from us. We demand accountability and endless apologies from Japan and Germany without acknowledging our own faults. On top of that we claim the moral high ground in atrocities such as the atomic bombs when even US generals & admirals of the time called it unnecessary & barbaric (Nimitz, MacArthur, Leahy, Eisenhower, etc) Look it up.
@lotharvonrichthofen4474
@lotharvonrichthofen4474 5 месяцев назад
In Japan today, when you visit their museums pertaining to history, the way they describe and present themselves is that they were just going about their business in peace and prosperity when all of sudden, out of nowhere, two atomic bombs are dropped on their country without warning…they essentially take ZERO responsibility for their horrific actions, plural, prior to WWII, during WWII, and the last few days of the war…they never admit guilt, apologize, or ask for forgiveness to the Allied forces. They did not adhere to the Geneva Convention guidelines regarding war As far as I’m concerned, they can piss off until they categorically admit their fault for their actions, and beg forgiveness from those that they wronged

Look up Tongzhou Massacre, Harold John Timperley, Central Propaganda Bureau. Harold Timperley is a western spy funded by the Chinese government. Nanjing was fabricated fiction to hide their worst war crime, TONGZHOU (=TSUSHU) MASSACRE from the international audience. They committed many massacres against Japanese women and civilians. Stop neglecting the true war crimes and do your own research. If you're an adult, please know that this world is filled with propaganda and fabricated stories of the victory countries of WWII. The truth and facts especially inconvenient to the war winners were all removed and hidden from the media. Know the worst war crimes against civilians of the country which lost the war. TO JUSTIFY THEIR OWN WORST WAR CRIMES THEY COMMITTED, THEY HAD TO CREATE FICTIONAL STORIES TO DEMONIZE JAPAN. And the misinformation was escalated year after year after Japan lost WWII. They wanted you to believe that Japan was a demon, which is 100% false. Japan protected Chinese civilians in Nanjing from their own brutal criminal-like soldiers' brutal and selfish crimes. Japan made the city safer than before by protecting civilians from cholera an pestis. LOOK UP NEW YORK TIMES MARCH 26 1933 TITLE "TUNGLIAO SURVIVES A YEAR OF TERROR; Bandits, Bombing Raids, Chol- era and Floods Ravaged This Part of Manchuria. JAPANESE FOUGHT DISEASE Troops Cleaned Up the City and Forced Citizens to Submit to Inoculations. COMMUNITY NOW QUIET Catholic Mission Head Declares It Is Safer Today Than Under the Old Regime." 731 WAS NOT FOR A MASSACRE BUT FOR EPIDEMIC / DISEASE PRECENTION UNIT TO PROTECT CITIZENS. KNOW THAT THIS WORLD IS FULL OF WINNERS' PROPAGANDA AND MISINFORMATION!!! Just because Japan lost a war doesn't mean they were a demon, but the war winners always want you to believe that Japan is a bad guy, which is really racism and wrong. They try so hard to justify atomic bombs which are the worst war crimes and human experiments ever performed on human beings, and the other massacres and genocides the U.S., China and Russia committed against Japanese civilians need to be justified at all cost. This is why they try so hard to fabricate fictional stories, tell lies, mislead and brainwash people for 80 years. Please do not neglect Tongzhou Massacre, Masan Massacre, Kakkonbyo Genocide and Sado Reclamation Group Remains Genocide. If Timperley did not create the Nanjing fiction, why did they ALWAYS misrepresent the pictures of Japanese victims as Chinese and lie in the books, videos and media? Why do they not have real evidence? Because the Nanjing and 731 are scapegoats of the Tongzhou Massacre and other war crimes which they don't want you to know!

Folks here in the East are very much aware of this unit and a lot of other crimes the Japanese Empire committed during the war. Bright side that I'm seeing lately is that despite how much some older generations and the government itself handwave these things, a lotta younger Japanese folks are becoming increasingly aware of it just from learning about it online. And not many of them are the type to make excuses for any of it. But there's also this problem I see when either Westerners or other Asians bring this up in forums or comments, they're keen on making it seem like Japanese people today are still the exact same kind of people who committed these acts, and it's caused quite a few people to be defensive about it online. It's about as ridiculous as pretending like modern day Germans are no different from the Nazis, except when it comes to the Japanese, folks actually buy that insane notion.

Thank you for your outstanding and thorough work Dr. Felton, I have been waiting for this video for some time. I’m a second generation Canadian, my family’s roots trace back to Harbin. My great grandparents were both in the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army. My great grandfather speaks fluent Russian and had been a liaison officer when his unit retreated to USSR. There he was also acted as one of the brigade translator. As a kid I would hear stories told by my grandparents of their days in the far east, conditions were harsh but everyone had the spirit of hope, firmly believing one day they will take their land back from the invaders, and in the end they did

Wouldn’t surprise me. On one of the anniversaries of the Nanjing Massacre Twitter seemed awash with denialist tweets claiming the Chinese vastly inflate the numbers, or that it was Chinese people doing the killing and blaming the Japanese, and other disgusting messages. I’d say that denial and revisionism is a problem, one that starts with the Japanese government only making half hearted admissions of their many atrocities while still honoring war criminals.

You left one thing out, during the Soviet trial, they had installed loud speakers outside the courtroom because tens of thousands of people came to witness, when the Japanese and Manchu criminals talked about what they had done, people became so enraged the military police had to fire shots in the air to prevent people from storming the building. Soviet history books would mention Unit 731 well into 1991, during the 90s, the mention was removed by Yeltsin to improve their trade relationship with the Japanese. So we can clearly see, who were on the right side of history, neither Britain nor the americans, hunted down German and Japanese war criminals like the KGB did.

I knew it was only a matter of time before a video on this was made. Few things make me feel as much pure disgust and discomfort as Unit 731. Fun fact. The final emperor of China and leader of Manchukuo Puyi initially showed no remorse whatsoever for his collaboration (due to him being a spoiled and arrogant brat), but once he was shown what Unit 731 had done that finally made something break within him and made him realize just what he had done. Apparently humbled him and changed him for the better.
