Unit Guide: Terror Drone | Red Alert 3

Continuing our Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 Beginner's Guide series, we are taking a look at the Soviet Terror Drone: Terror Drones are one of the strongest units in the game. Their combination of high speed & weak armor makes them a very high-skill, gimmicky support / harassment / scout unit. Their special ability is to switch from Dismantler Claws to Stasis Ray that stun locks an enemy unit, rendering them unable to move.
For Terror Drone's strategy, you can combo them with anything that deals high damage but lacks accuracy (such as V4 Rocket Launchers & Conscript Molotovs). A skilled player would always blend a Terror Drone into their army to pick off enemy units. Hammer Tank's Leech Beam works especially well with Stasis Ray zaps.

In the upcoming Patch 1.12.8, Terror Drone's zap would no longer prevent transports from ejecting their passengers, nor will it destroy Aircraft Carrier's Sky Knights.

Terror Drones. The bane of any enemy of the Soviet Union since Red Alert 2. I still remember how you can get them for 375 each with an Industrial Plant and just outright throw them into a crowd of tanks. Whoever was the one that decided to give them the EMP beam in RA3 is a sadistic genius.

@@earvindinoso7689 Cryocopter is significantly better. Final state of the game Soviets are very weak and allies are absurdly strong. A shame.

@@Sleazy-Skuzzyyea, the whole bias surrounding the DLC should've made it more than obvious. I am still mad about it, the Soviets got trash, the Empire got quite literal raid bosses with the size of a friggin Godzilla, and the Allies got the most broken units without any downsides all over again.

They are also ridiculous in Mental Omega as they can maul all infantry in one strike, where Dogs and Spooks fail to target plated infantry properly. The only downside is they cant go into water and they cant be promoted. Plus Russia has one on roids: Chitzkoi.

Another 3 tips: 1. if the unit is frozen by a terror drone and can't rotate to attack, try select the unit and press S. 2. if a terror drone is closing in on one of your important vehicles, you can force attach a burst drone on it, so the terror drone can't infect the vehicle. It will infect the burst drone instead. 3. You can remove the camping bear or dog by using a tank burster as a bait and kill it with a following imperial warrior, but this trick doesn't work if the camper is a terror drone. And stunning the front door of a war factory is a banned move in China.

@@xyhc-cnc You could use CTRL + A to target those things easier, since they are usually closer to your tanks than other vehicles, so they will target those pesky things first.

I remember before RA3 has been released, there were a preview of different units on EA website. Terrordrones entry, IIRC, said that they can scale buildings and cliffs unimpeded. Wonder why that was cut.

The drone to drone part made me think: wouldn’t it be funny if there was a commanders challenge where you would fight CIS? (Or more specifically an army which woud rely mostly on terror drones, burst drones and future tanks? (The last one might not be drone but is closest tank to it)

The most annoying thing, that becomes trivial against an IFV + Engineer And the reason why I always steal Soviet Barracks and War factories just so I can block the doors with terror drones I do love having Soviet team mates who spam terror drones as much as they love my spies. Terror drone stuns, spy steals. Not only you lost your unit, you gave your enemy more units.

Terror are drones highly vulnerable and arw luke dogs or bear tho with their stasis ray and their infecting skill they are truly belong in high ranks Tho i suggest if your in an allied faction try having an backup Engineer IFV at the back and make 2 just incase 1 get infected so that even if your tank get infected you can still repair them

I say it's late but. Terror Drone is the Anti Shogun Executioner. Specially at Empire Mission Called Moskow Hard Mode the Soviet gonna spam a lots of Terror Drone for infected the Armour Units

Imagine a real life terror drone would attack, it will be a gore. Judging by the blades and those are purposely for armor vehicles and really terrifying on soldiers.

Terror Drones are perfect to troll with Shogun Executioner on that 3 players skirmish island map. paralyze him and than use any kind of weapon you want to kill the giant mech. but I usually like to send another Terror Drone to slowly kill the Executioner. very satisfying to see him slowly die. I'm sadistic. lol 😂 I think Natasha can easely kill the Executioner with an airstrike as well.

Actually, in the latest patch 1.12, magnetic satellite doesn't really care about the vehicle level (tier 1 can suck tier 3 vehicles, ships and aircraft, I'm not sure about the last one tbh), also it doesn't do friendly fire (for better or worse, can no longer destroy an mcv with just one hit). This is opposed to whatever balance patch they have in uprising. (I think it's 1.06, but I am not sure at all).

@@xyhc-cnc Well, I'm talking about the campaign, I rarely play skirmishes and usually it's the empire, so maybe that's where I got confused. Interesting to know that campaigns have different balance than skirmishes in this aspect. (but that means magnetic satellite got badly nerfed 🙄🙄)

@@xyhc-cnc Yeah, I regularly use it in the campaign, for example in the volcano fortress mission, it helps me get rid of the initial allied fleet (right after the emissary arrives) including assault destroyers using just level 1 or 2. (the second support power point comes right after the emissary arrives, so sometimes I forget to pick up level 2, but level 1 also works.)

He's doing tutorials suited to competitive meta. Uprising DLC doesn't have a competitive multiplayer, and the units it adds are incredibly unbalanced.

I've watched ur match against edvin on sybert and wondering why u built so much tengus even after u destroyed his airfield. And why vx, why not tsunami since he had a lot of hydrofoils And allied is too op atm, watching dimon vs kohji, i mean dimon replied well with those harassment but when ac out with hydrofoild and assault destroyer, its over

@@Tohka47 I just sendt it to sybert since it was not a half bad match. Not the best gameplay. But I prefer to watch. A game play that has had mistakes in them than watching a replay that is the same small mistakes over and over again.

@@cwedvin5748 ye, i understand. But watching the replay make me feel XYHC overrate tengu in some specific situation. I would love to see some scouting and harassment from yari mini sub. And the allied is too op, too op. I placed myself in that situation and only came up with tsunami tanks. Really cant do anything against allied fleet

@@Tohka47 no the allied are not to op and the tengus are placed that high up. Since they are so flexible I agree with xyhc on most of the troops. But no unit is imortal. Yari subs is great scouts. But over all I think tengus can be a bit over rated their strength is numbers and Beeing flexible. If you take away one of 2 they are mutch weeker. For example early game I took away numbers. Trying to attack at times where the tengus where low in numbers.

But what if player uses more defences. I usually put several cannons close to my refinery. One time my base was almost beatable with all walls and cannons then my enemy used Americans super weapon (I don't remember name of it)

At 0:41, didn't you mean "fast moving & AGILE"? Because how the hell does them being fragile make them any useful? Fast moving and agile does make more sense. Yes, they may also be fragile, compared to other units, but that's definitely not a useful ability to mention in conjuction to being fast moving. I understand that typos happen, but usually, when an author notices it, he then edits the video to add some textual correction, like "I meant agile here" or something. Don't tell me, I'm the only one to notice this. In context being fragile doesn't fit there. Agile must be the correct word.
