We then provide a high level overview of the B-17 features and its flight crew. The B-17 was my high school mascot. Richland Bombers. We played football with mushroom cloud decals on our helmets. I used to live right off Bombing Range road. I never thought it was weird until I moved out of town! I guess the B-29 dropped the nukes, but the Hanford site-the reason for the town in the first place-was responsible for a good amount of the plutonium used in the Manhattan Project. The story is that at one point each of the workers dedicated a day’s pay to fund a B-17, and that bomber was consequently named “Day’s Pay” and later became our mascot.

I love the statement and the partial quote at the end. I’ve been recently hearing more and more about how historians dislike the idea of using history to learn from the mistakes. It’s more of a tool to figure out how we got here. I’d argue that’s the same thing in a sense but I didn’t spend 10 years in college.

Makes me think of the show: ‘Into The Cold Blue.’ The harrowing missions these guys in the Mighty Eighth, took over Europe. I believe the average age of these specialists and their pilots being younger than 25, flying at least 25 missions with a 25% chance of surviving through it all. Something inherently different about people back then. Great video and I love the effort put into this, gents.
