Awesome review, and it begs me to ask the question -- for someone who is very new to game development (played around with unity, godot) and has below average coding skills, would you recommend buying a combination of assets (top down engine and characters) to make something? Thanks
Hi Alex, I don't recommend buying an asset (yet) if you're not sure about your coding skills. I would start with one of the Unity Learn projects first (the FPS Microgame and Microkarting projects are good ones or the Sample projects (FPS Sample, Puzzle Sample, etc)). They are smaller and more manageable (plus there is lots of great free tutorials on the Unity Learn site). Try modding those with your own 3d art and making those your own. Many of these complete asset solutions (like UFPS and Top-Down Engine) still require a bit of familiarity with the Engine before you can really push them. I would make sure you spend several months in Unity (or a year or so) before really tackling a large full-conversion; if you start with a large project, it will just be more frustrating and you won't finish. Start with smaller victories and the next project will be bigger and better.
@@arsylgames It's cheap for what yyou get, normaly it was on 75 $, but because the asset store is hunger games, is it hard as developer there, so , i jsut sell ti for 8$ and want to make my own game now.
@@MG-hg1sq I understand. As a gamedev you don't earn a lot from the asset store. Most of the time you loose. And than you have a few assets that get 30.000 downloads or more. €8 is really cheap but make sure the asset works with the recent version of Unity or will get taken down.
I am building the course now. The DOTS tutorials you are seeing are the "free" preview portion (though it will be slightly reorganized in the real course).

Mostly I am going by the official Unity examples and forums and trying to translate them into plainer English. As someone who had to spend several weeks digging through their sparse documentation, I know how hard it is get started with this really different architecture. So hence, these videos...
