This is awesome man, very helpful and beneficial in numerous ways. People online usually don't go through this in this much detail, so thank you for sharing with the community. Much appreciated 🙏
I seriously never comment but this is gold. thank you for being so open and sharing everything we could want to know. learned a ton about advanced routing in console. you rock!!!!
Hi Fady. I stumbled across your site when searching within RU-vid on my smart TV. I never found your site via Google and I was specifically looking for advice on hooking up my Apollo gear with external preamps exactly as you describe in your tutorials. I use Groove 3 and Macpro video tutorials to help me with the UA console but never found the explanations to be as clear and concise as your presentation, Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. Kind regards Alan
X6 has a talk back mic also, little hole on the left, I heard it during a dust vacuum session Probably one of the most important sessions you can do just be careful not to damage that mic with compressed air or with vacuum
I have 2 X8P's, RME octa and powerplay 16, so 24 in. Should have seen this earlier😊, great video. But figured it all out and maybe have something to add. For me it gives flexibility to use the 1-8 multiconnector line in on the X8P. With that all 24 xlr inputs are connected for live tracking. By switching to line level i immediately have my synths without loosing additional channels. Ofcourse this only works because i dont use these synths when recording live. I use these for creativity and in a production setting. The benefit? Software switch between live recording and production setup, no hassle with cables.
Wow! You went above and beyond on this topic. There is so much great information here. Thank you for taking all your time to put this all together. I will have to watch this many times and get my notebook out and take notes. I have subscribed to your channel. You have a new fan of the content you provide.
Thank you for this video - I alway got by with a semi preset I/O Map but never truly got exactly how I wanted but this video helped me understand quite a bit with multiple Apollo units. You also made me want to invest into some good DA converter, too!!
Fady, what a wonderful video!!! I'm glad you have Console 2, so what you're showing was very current to 2024 standards. I went through and redid my I/O matrix for my Apollo 8 based off your suggestions. I don't have a lot of outboard gear, but I'm seeing the possibilities now. What you said at the end about routing a virtual instrument, like a Pro Tools Hammond B3 organ, out of a Virtual channel in PT and then being able to mix in Console was something I had not understood before, but it makes sense now. I would like to try digitally mirroring to a DAC or monitor controller. The problem is, the monitor controllers that beats the Apollo, like the Grace Design M908 are deserving of better qualified users than myself :). Is there another DAC you would recommend that would give me better D-A conversion than my Apollo 8, but not break the bank? Thank you Fred
I am this was helpful to you. You should look into the lynx Hilo it offers D/A and A/D and dedicated monitor controller. Also dangerous music ones are amazing.
Thank you so much for this great video part 1 and 2. It has definitely help me in so many ways. I do have tons of questions but let's start with one. As you explained how you have adat 1 going to your hilio and adat 2 to your p16. Does this mean you only track at 48khz? What would you do if you track at 96khz?
Thank you very much for sharing! I am coming from the RME world. How do I change the volume of the Entire Cue Mix 1 from Console App and Mute the entire cue it if required? Thank you :)
Can you help me set up an Apollo x4 with an Apogee Element 46. I watched your video last night and this morning. Thought I understood the concepts. Then I sat in front of the computer going through it step by step trying to apply them to link the 2 interfaces. Well it was a face plant. This my first ever comment.
Hello, thanks for your time and passion to make these videos!!!. I have an Apollo Twin and a X6 . I am connecting an A/D apogee convertor 2 channels into the X6 ADAT 1@2 inputs. I do see the signal in the console the meter shows activity , I hear the sound fine when sitting in 0db but If I move the fader down no changes in volume, if I go above 0db I do hear a little increase in volume. The MUTE does not do anything . If I press SOLO the volume goes down a bit and only then the MUTE works. Any ideas?, All the other channels including Virtual channels work fine. Luis.
I figured out. The signal was coming in to the console on ALL the 8 channels but only 2 were visible, the other 6 were in the background but still running. It is all good now!
Thank you for the great info! One question. ADAT out for the Behringer Powerplay? I only see Ultranet on the P16. Can you explain how that is connected. Thank you again.
One caveat here is that you’re not monitoring through the same DAC that you send your analog prints with. You’re using the analog outs on the Apollo to send to your analog gear so that’s using the Apollo DAC, then you monitor through a diff high end DAC. Just saying that you’re not hearing what you’re sending most likely though minimal probably
You’re correct… I have separate a da converter and a separate Ad converter for my anolog prints. My Apollo converters are completely bypassed from start to finish.
Re-watching this... (again)... I "absorb" more information each time. Question, can Universal Audio interfaces be ADAT slaved into another interface? For example, if I want to use an Apollo's processing out to an RME so that I can have the effects sent through 8 TotalMix FX channels, would that be possible?
It’s not supposed to. But there is a smart way around it to make it happen. It is hard to explain just over a comment. But feel free to email me and I will help you if that’s what you want to setup. Fady@heartbeatproductions.org
Hi Fady, Thanks for sharing your knowledge, it's very useful! Maybe you could help me, I hope you don't mind if I ask you something: I'm having a problem trying to use hardware as inserts in Pro Tools with my Apollo X6. It works fine in audio, midi and Master channels, but doesn't work in buses (aux channels). When I active the insert in a Bus, the signal mutes, I know the signal is going out because I see needles moving my gear.. Thank so much in advance!
@@fadygergis can you please direct me to the correct video? I am on your channel looking for it and I don't see one that shows how to use a hardware compressor as an insert after a unison pre amp on the UAD console. thank you!
@@fadygergis I would like to use it in tracking. I am not sure if it's possible. So I want to use a unison pre amp and then use a hardware compressor if possible.
@fadygergis Hi! I have a question. I want to send my drums to channel 9-10 on my Behringer Powerplay unit, which is connected through ADAT. How do I set that up in Console? Thanks for a great and helpful video!
How would you go about sending singers reverb fx in their p-16 mix? Lets say you had 6 singers tracking BGVs at the same time and gave them mixes through the p-16s Thanks!! Incredible vid
I assign the Aux to a specific ADAT stereo output to go the P-16 so that will become the stereo verb for all the singers. And I will adjust sends from the console
@@fadygergis I'm not seeing where you can output the Aux to an ADAT output directly... In times past i've had to send the Aux to one of my CUES and then send that CUE to the p-16's via ADAT but i wasn't sure if there was a way to do it without eating up an entire CUE just for reverb. Thank you!
@@fadygergis your a legend! I have a scaled down version of your rig and after your video here I see I’ve been missing so much flexibility and workflow optimization by not using adat and configuring UAD console in a better way. My mind is kinda blown. But when looking for reliable studio grade adat cables with decent reviews that can carry all 8 channels of audio, it’s a deep well with mixed reviews, so I wanted to ask. Thanks again man, and great setup and video!
Thanks for the video. Can you directly route an analogue input (such as a mic pre) to an ADAT output via the Apollo console routing matrix without a DAW?
Thanks for the info. I'm currently testing on an Apollo X6 which has ADAT I/O but for some reason it wont route the inputs to ADAT even though I tell it to in the console settings IO matrix (like if you were to use it as AD converters). If I route an audio track in a DAW to the ADAT outputs it will output via ADAT, but for some reason it wont automatically route analogue inputs to ADAT outputs. It's weird.@@fadygergis
@@fadygergis I don't think the console I/O matrix works for the Apollo X6. For example, I cannot route analogue input 1 to analogue output 3. If I route it via a track in the DAW it works. You might be right that I have to get a rack format Apollo but it's strange that they wouldn't just grey it out in the software if you can't use it. Thanks for your input though.
Hi there Fady I came across your channel I need help I’m using a Apollo 16 the old one for some reason I can’t open my phantom power I don’t even see it in my channel strip an another question I bought some plugins but it shows buy plug-in it shows expired demo please buy can u help an it does shop install an it shows you own this plug-in
Hey Fady any chance you can help me figure out how to route drums through the db-25 cable on the Apollo 8xp? or .. i just want to know if its even possible to do so lol (coming off as a noob but im just trying to see how and if it works haha) thank you in advance
Great Video!! Thank you. If I daisy-chain x16 with Apollo Silver product (with tb3 option card), does the +24 headroom option disappear from the console settings? If not, is there any problem when I select +24 dBu headroom when I only convert with x16? (Both are powered on and daisy-chianed, but not converting w/ silver model. & Changing to 20dBu only when I convert with the silver model.) And if the two are interconnected, will only the converter of the main device be used when recording on the DAW? Or will the converter of the device with the channel for receiving the signal be used and the main device only uses the interface function?
While I appreciate this, I'm actually weeping and looking for oxygen at the same time. I don't have any outboard gear. I only have 1 X4 and I cannot figure out for the life of me (I guess theoretically) how Console, Mac Core Audio, and Virtual Channels all work together. I also cannot figure out Cue Mixes or any of this. If someone has a more simple video to recommend about this, I'd be very grateful.
