Universal Soldier was written by Buffy Sainte-Marie in 1964 but brought to the attention of the world by Donovan in 1965. Still relevant 50 years on. Recorded on my iMac using GarageBand, one guitar track, one vocal track.
That is absolutely incredible! Literally amazing! Voice, chord progression the whole thing, just fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful rendition of this timeless classic.
Just come across this in April 2022. You have a strong and appealing voice, Rob Paynter. Coupled with your accomplished guitar playing you have produced a gem - thank you! Regards from Blighty :).
oh Rob, it has been decades since i've heard this, but in the early sixties it was on my record player almost every night, the singer was Buffy Sainte-Marie. i'm sure every body back then had a cover of it. when i played out it was usually a part of my set list. i very much like your own take. absolutely refreshing to hear, peace and love, chuck.
Thanks man. I'm in a humanistic buddhist movement in Brazil, but used to be a soldier and later a cop back in my european home land. A song that touched me deeply. I'll learn it and pass it on. I'm 38 and have a chance to teach English to kids, teens and all others, I'll use this song-message. I loved your performance.
yup! you nailed it - love this song, should be taught in school!! ( have a crack at this one friend , similar genre-same vein ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FU1w3U8QSfk.html )
