I love the idea of smaller parks that focus on one aspect of Universals IP. It would be cool to have a smaller park somewhere in the Midwest that would be like the Universal Studios park in Orlando, old time Hollywood with a monsters section and a bunch of indoor stuff to do so that when winter hits there is still plenty to do.

I live in this area, I think the park will be a great success, however, I think its a major fail on behalf of Frisco to notate that there shall be no "dark ride" attractions allowed. The state severely lacks innovative dark ride attractions and this would be a major miss by the city and Universal. Hopefully, they can get this worked out prior to opening to ensure that is reconsidered.

Ok I just came up with the entire park in the last hour bouncing off this idea. With areas and attractions based solely off of existing universal theme park licenses and NBCUniversal IP: The main gate should be called the schoolyard (a Main Street USA area themed to a children’s schoolhouse with chalk drawings of universal characters on the wall) The lands should be Sesame Street, Bikini Bottom, a Dreamworks/Illumination crossover area which will take up most of the parks lands, the Wizarding world at the Weasley’s burrow, and a parent’s corner of the park with no rides but some shows and restaurants based off on NBC properties.

I said it from the get-go that the Minions are 100% going to be in this park. The Rise of Gru was the FIFTH film in the series and it's made the most money. Very few series increase value as they move beyond the first sequel. Also, that boat ride in the concept art is yellow and blue, just like a Minion. It makes total sense that they would be the first things you see when you enter. Also, the area behind the boat ride was mysteriously empty in the art, which is NOT going to happen in a theme park. The Minions are literally going to be front and center. It will be interesting to see who gets the boot, though. While it's a kiddie park, there does need to be interest for parents. Adults like the Minions. And to a lesser degree, they are into the other Illuminations and DreamWorks properties. Camp Cretaceous? Not so much. But what would be better? Nintendo and Harry Potter certainly won't be allowed to exist here. Dora is long in the tooth. Of the non-Universal properties, SpongeBob has the best chance of replacing something. Adults like those characters. (Norwegian Cruise Lines has the SpongeBob characters and at the meet 'n' greets 80% of the people in line were adults. And, YES, I was one of them!) SpongeBob probably lends itself to flat rides more than any other property. The argument against this is they'd have to share profits, but there would be a lot of profits to share once they start selling Krusty Burgers.

Yeah, this seems very similar to the original development of the first USA Legoland, Legoland California, which I watched throughout its five year development between 1994-1999 as I have lived only about 10 minutes away from the park site since 1990…While the park didn’t open with the hotel, it always had expansion built in to its original 50 acre park site (and has now been filled out by two hotels, a water park and an aquarium)…my kids were 2 and 6 when the park opened and we basically LIVED at this park for a solid seven years, so, if Universal does this concept right, like Legoland did, they’ve got a Really solid goldmine here! (As there are now sister parks to the California park in Florida and New York)

In USJ, a deceptively simple sound stage houses the impressive Snoopy Studios play area. I always see families laughing as they make the comic books and movies come to life, and without exaggerating I can say it reminds me of the old Image Works upstairs in Epcot’s Imagination pavilion. The number of large cities within a day's drive of this park is ridiculous: Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, New Orleans, Shreveport, Little Rock, Bentonville, Jackson (MS), Memphis, Wichita and Kansas City are within an 8-hour drive. If you expand to a 10-hour radius you pick up places like Albuquerque, El Paso, Birmingham, Saint Louis and Nashville. Oh, and then there's nearly 8 million people in the DFW metroplex. This park should live quite well off the drive-in crowd. At least with this project, each guest vehicle realistically is going to represent at least 3 people, if not 4 or more by targeting families with children. If Universal starts seeing a significant fly-in crowd from places further afield, Universal could invest in an airport shuttle from DFW and/or DAL. But I really think Uni wants to capture the crowd who is coming to DFW as part of their overall vacation; 68 Million people visit the Metroplex annually.

I think Universal Studios understands that it can have many parks but not necessarily that big. It's not that they require a huge, giant infrastructure for them to exist and be called Universal. They can make smaller, local parks. But they transmit the same magic and quality as their parks in Orlando. I think a good example is Universal Singapore, which is less than 50% Island of Adventure. The idea of going big or nothing is not profitable today, not only because of operating costs but also because of what consumers can pay. We can see how this park model (under a big big name as Universal) can be more accessible and targeting specific markets, such as children in this case.
@UmmYeahOk

Funny that you should mention Universal Singapore, given that they have an entire land dedicated to the Shrek franchise, and up until last year, an entire land dedicated to Madagascar, as well. Both of these are rumored to be at the new Frisco park, based on the conceptual art.

So are they sticking to a strictly younger age park? Or are there now pressures from locals to make this a proper Universal park? @LChatmanFL

It will be a kid park for sure. The agreement with the city is locked in. Also, a proper theme park would need to be several hundred acres. At least 500 if you want something like Orlando. Epic Universe is about that if you include everything.

If you want adult targeted rides, go to Six Flags. The theming is either that of one of the nations that once ruled over the state, or DC comics, for some reason. Yeah, there are some little kiddie rides, but they’re really nothing more than carnival rides.

@@piereandreturner2818I assumed “no dark rides” was something Universal announced, not something the council demanded. Noise, eyesores, and traffic were the only real complaints residents had, some of which were councilmen living in that neighborhood. Dark rides don’t effect any of this. An indoor family coaster (a dark ride) would be better for those nearby residents than an outdoor family roller coaster, as it keeps noise levels down, and if visible from the street, less tacky.
@piereandreturner2818

@@UmmYeahOk It was something that Universal announced, and it was also something that appeared in the agreement with the city council. It's just weird why Universal would promise that there would be no dark ride if it came from Universal which is why I think it would make more sense if the idea was proposed as part of the agreement to change the zoning of that area by either the councilmen or even the mayor himself. I did not live in that area and am not familiar with the law, but at least that's how I understand it. If you live there or are more familiar with what actually happened, correct me if I am wrong. Unless I misunderstood something.

I still scratch my head over this project. Is this like a sample to entice people to eventually go to one of the coastal resorts? This metroplex has had a Legoland discovery center for over a decade now, a Peppa Pig World of Play for about half a decade, and just broke ground on their second Peppa Pig Theme park. We took our daughter to the Legoland discovery center, and she loved it so much that yes, we did in fact decide to go to the real one in CA. This demographic is too young for school, so affluent families are more than willing to find entertainment for them on a regular basis. I am glad to see that Universal updated its targeted demographic from 3-9 to 3-11. This means they’re targeting older kids as well, something that the competition isn’t doing. Also, not far from here they had a Jurassic Park experience that was so popular, they extended it, and later this year is having a Harry Potter experience, which also is selling out. The demand is there.
@kevinbhieey9188
@kevinbhieey9188 Год назад
They aren't interested in appealing to all ages. If you put a full-size Universal park in Texas, then it's going to cannibalize some guests from the existing parks because they're all easy to get to from Texas. This Legoland/Sesame Place market is growing and Universal wants in before Disney wakes up. It's ridiculously cheap to build these things, comparatively speaking. $550M for an entire park from the ground up? It cost more than $400M to build the Harry Potter land in USH!!! This is going to be a no-dark-ride, no-E-ticket experience, and it will rake in the cash.

Not a bad idea overall for Universal. The parking takes up a considerable amount of space and affecting the space for the actual theme park. Hasn't anyone thought to utilize vertical carousal parking structures for that amount of space? for every 2-3 car slot you could get 10 cars in the structure, plus it wouldn't be that difficult to get your car out. What if you want to add more to the theme park but are limited to the amount of space you have without purchasing more. That's just my thought.

But given it can never be anything more than a kid's park, maybe it's meant to be a partial-day park even with the really short hours. Harry Potter is HUGE! It’s such a big deal that it’s in 4 locations so far (Singapore is honestly too small), and the fact that Orlando is getting 3 potterlands shows you how important this WB IP is to them. I know that every time I go, everyone just makes a bee line to the back of the park where Wizarding World is, ignoring the rest of the park, which, honestly, makes almost everything walk on in the mornings.

@@baconlemonade4333yeah, I too find this odd. I also wonder what they define as a “dark ride.” Technically. A carousel inside a building is a dark ride, something that the mall in Frisco already has. Those stupid mall trains count as well. If you looked at the DreamWorks section of Motiongate Dubai, literally EVERY ride is a dark ride, because they are all indoors.

I think the city council have limited understanding of a dark rides in theme park.
@UmmYeahOk
@UmmYeahOk Год назад
@@piereandreturner2818maybe all the buildings serve as heated and air conditioned queue areas… …because we have some pretty extreme weather, which is one of the reasons Six Flags is rarely open. At lease Six Flags has trees that were planted in the 60s. Much of Frisco, like much of North Dallas, is new, and I don’t know how big the trees Universal plans on planting are going to be, but it will take about 20 years to see any real shade benefit from them. A lot of the big trees Frisco has now, were planted in the 90s. Trees in that neighborhood boardering it, are about 15 yeasts old.
