The Philmac UTC is one of the most versatile couplings on the market and can be used to join virtually any water pipe. It does not matter if the pipe is metric or imperial as long as you have roughly the correct size fitting.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE GAS UTC IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA.

Thanks for posting that video. Struggled with the imperial pipe in the former attic tank connection. I'll give this thing a try. It's worth mentioning perhaps that Philmac make straight couplers for same diameter pipes too so if you're wanting to connect lead with lead for example you can do that too. Awesome!

They make a wrench for these couplings instead of channel locks. It’s a spanner style and has both sizes in one wrench. Love these fittings, great product!!!

Hi I notice that for the mdpe connection you used an insert, if you are connecting to lead would you also have to use an insert :)
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 8 лет назад
No, you do not need an insert on the lead side. You can get some fittings made by melimatic that will work on MDPE without the pipe insert, so it's best to use one with most fittings but probably not as critical as it is with other types of plastic pipe. Thanks for the comment ;-)

hope you can help me. I know this is an old post but can't find help anywhere. today I had to change a coupling from mdpe to 22mm copper. Thing is when fitting a new 25mm mdpe connection it never fitted . so question is will this do the trick as hate being stuck.
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 8 лет назад
+James Nicol Yes, as long as you get the correct Universal transitional coupling it will work no problem at all. I think you would need a 1144 as shown on this page- www.philmac.co.uk/products/details/?type=2&sub=33

Thanks for the video. What would you use if you wanted to use a UTC to attach to a lead pipe and cap the end?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 3 года назад
You have to be careful doing that, as it is known as a "dead leg", which can lead to potential water contamination, which can cause stagnation etc. That is why most people remove the branch at source. If it won't create a dead leg, you can get a blanking plug for the other end of the UTC- www.moleonline.com/philmac-3g-metric-imperial-blanking-plug-1036726

i know this is an old video but im just renovating my new house and the mains supply into the house is lead - can i use one of these to go from the lead pipe to copper?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 5 лет назад
Yes, you can use one of these, or you can use a Leadloc fitting (you need one to go from lead to copper) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PKUt9CX3UKU.html But the UTC is probably easier. It might be worth considering replacing the lead pipe with MDPE, I have done this in the last 2 properties that I have renovated- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6MWSWz3YVPo.html Good luck with it ;-)

@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 4 года назад
Someone asked the exact same question, so I'll copy and paste that answer- You need to check the external diameter of the lead pipe, as 1/2 lead pipe can vary between about 22mm and 26mm (roughly) depending on whether it is 6lb, 7lb or 9lb lead. If it is between 21mm and 27mm outside diameter you can get a Philmac UTC that goes from 25mm on one side to 21-27 on the other, it looks like you need the 98104300 but please check this- www.philmac.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Utc_3G_tech_manual_METRIC-IMPERIAL_email_version.pdf

Hi there, I checked on technical data and its mentioned almost all but not blue water MDPE pipe, is there any reason or its like may work or may not work and is it approved? I need to connect 20mm MDPE to 15mm copper pipe
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 3 года назад
These are fine on MDPE, just make sure that you use the pipe insert (often it is with the UTC) They are approved for use on water pipes in most countries. This should be the one that you need, but shop around, as you might be able to get it cheaper. plumbsparesdirect.com/store/plumbing-parts/Philmac-Fittings/philmac-utc/philmac-utc-coupling-1032 Thanks for the comment 👍

Should these be used inside a property connecting lead to blue pipe then concreted in the floor leading up to a stop tap?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman Год назад
I always try to avoid using any fitting underground, if possible, but the waterboard use these fittings underground, so it should be fine. However, I would wrap the fitting, once the joint has been made, with some plastic sheeting, to prevent the fitting from the concrete 👍

Hi, I need to connect to a lead pipe. I cant find any videos showing how to do it. The promotional video for the product says its possible. How does it not just crush the lead pipe? Do you put a lining piece inside the lead pipe (as you do with the MPDE)?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 5 лет назад
I don't think you need a insert with lead pipe, as far as I am aware you can just use the UTC on the pipe. I've used lead-loc fittings in the past (which are also compression) and they don't need a insert for lead pipe- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PKUt9CX3UKU.html

Yes, just make sure you use a pipe insert 👍
@spaceman6541

@@ultimatehandyman many thanks. Would that be a hep2o insert or does it have to be a specific one as the standard hep insert looks pretty short against the philmac utc fitting.
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 2 года назад
@@spaceman6541 You need the corresponding insert for the pipe that you are using, so HEP2O pipe will need a HEP2O insert. Even though it will go far in the fitting, it should prevent the pipe from crushing 👍
