My best tips and advice for going to university, college or school with a chronic illness such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, or POTs. University can be difficult especially if you have a chronic illness or disability etc. In this video I talk about the DSA, Mitigating Circumstances, Recorded Lectures, Taking Digital Notes, using a Planner/To-do list and making the most out of your Personal Tutor!
My name is Elinor, I am a 21-year-old sociology student who has been living with ME/CFS for 5 years and has recently started making RU-vid Videos about my experience!
This video does not necessarily reflect everyone's experience with ME/CFS because we are all different and have different experiences. This is because ME/CFS can be different than I have experienced, and each person’s situation will be different and therefore each person’s story will be different!

Thank you Elinor for the relevant advice. I will definitely prioritise applying for DSA which I was supposed to apply for in September.

And one more of many promises to myself from now, I will not handwrite unless absolutely required.

I'm starting university soon and I strongly suspect that I have cfs or some other condition that causes chronic fatigue. My last 2 years of high school were really difficult so I hope I'll be able to get the accomidations I need.

That's great! In my experience universities are much more flexible and able to help you with you circumstances than schools are. But try to get a diagnosis if you can it will make it so much easier to get the assistance that you need !! I'm sure you'll do great!! let me know how it goes!! 💖

This is great. I hope to be able to study some day. CFS is brutal on cognitive functioning.

The brain fog can be really hard to manage but if you really want to there are ways you can work around difficulties. The RU-vidr Shannon Emelia said in a video that she is allowed open book exams because of her brain fog, so there are lots of accommodations you can look into if you are interested in going back to education !!

Elinor Brown a medicin student on a dating app told me the same. So i guess atleast some off the things you mentioned are also possible here in Belguim. Funny enough i was very much opposed to the idea of open book exams. Dunno y 🤷🏻‍♂️ guess i have ego problems.

I have just been diagnosed with ME. Applied for DSA but they are wanting to give me a whole desktop which is crazy I suggested a wall mount as I'm in bed most of the time. Literally laying so would prefer a wall mount so that I can tilt my laptop.

Hi, I hope you’re doing ok 💜 I’m not sure what you mean by a wall mount. But the best way to convince the DSA about anything is have a doctor write a letter telling them what would be best for you!! Hope this helps xx

@@ElinorBrown lol meant something which is connected to the wall and will hold my laptop in position while i am laying in bed. Given up on my GP as its Covid and they have other pressing things to do. They took over 2 months to give me my medical DSA form.

I struggle reading from screens so I have to do folders and paper but can’t handwrite legibly due to my ME and EDS so type lectures and seminars but unfortunately printing and text books are kinda an essential. Waiting until I can order the physical copies for my online masters!

Hannah Frost that sounds tricky, but I’m glad you’ve found a solution that works for you! Good luck with your masters!! 💕
