Broadcast Date 6th December 1995
The only ever victorious appearance by a team from Heriot-Watt University to date. Even got a mention in the Sports Diary of the Scottish edition of the Times on the Saturday after broadcast due to the bould Hickey appearing resplendent in his Celtic jersey on BBC2 whilst over on STV Rangers were suffering one of their ritual Champions League humiliations at the hands of supposedly lowlier opposition.

Ah, my fellow alumni. I went to Heri O'Twatt in 1994, and left two terms later before they could kick me out for non-attendance and failing all my exams, managing a magnificent 0% in one of them.

@@lightningmcdweeb I'm afraid not. The following year, I went to the University of Ulster where I _was_ kicked out for failing all my exams and non-attendance; which I blame on a predilection for a local fungus.

Thanks Avik. I don't have a copy of the 2nd round match unfortunately. I didn't own a video recorder at the time and my Mum didn't tape it as... ... SPOILER... ... she didn't think I would want to watch it again given that we lost. We were somewhat less sharp after a late night with the Middlesex team the night before filming. Not that I think we would have won even if we had gone to bed at our intended sensible hour!

I think he was trying to emulate Bamber Gascoigne a bit in the beginning, just got progressively more grumpy and senile in recent years.

Voltaire was a horrible answer in an early round & spot on near the end. Hickey & Paterson were quite good!!

Hickey started a bit cocky,but turned out to be quite good,he should have got the Phil lynott question tho, fellow Irish man and all.p.s.paterson was a total babe.

I think he just butchered the question. It should have been delivered as two distinct sentences along lines of “The top two pro US football teams compete for the Super Bowl. What’s the equivalent bowl for the top two college teams?”
