Those questions seemed really hard, and the whole thing felt like a struggle for everyone involved. Not the most enjoyable match. But well done to the winners..
Whatever you think about the difficulty of the questions it’s inexcusable that a student of medicine does not know that the standard treatment for Syphilis is penicillin. I said it three times before he gave the wrong answer.
Agree with most, not a very exciting match. Neither team very strong on the bonus questions. Nevertheless always enjoyable to see how the teams interact. Didn,t see much team spirit in this episode. Thanks as always..every match has something different to offer.
Hm; don't know if the questions were harder, but that was by far the lowest-scoring/in my opinion the worst match of the series - bonus rates of 11/24 and 6/27 will do that I suppose. Here's to hoping that we don't get that low again anytime soon as it definitely reduced the quality - not sure after that about the prospects of the winners but who knows?
Eh, "chemical" could mean in this case to be "related to chemistry" instead of the more technical definition, but what am I doing not expecting pedantry in a University Challenge comment section

At 20:40 - I think drum n bass is also probably a valid answer and they should have been given a point. Their answers for the other two dance music questions were embarrassing though.

The question does not specify that you have to state only the first of the two different genre names which appeared that actually match the description. The term 'Drum and Bass' was already being used to a decent degree in such a musical context by early 1993 (which would still be "early 1990s"), eg the successful compilation 'The Dark Side: (Hardcore Drum & Bass Style)' released on React in March 1993. As an extra note, the term 'drum and bass' can be traced back to the 70s where it was originally sometimes used to describe the dub versions of reggae songs. The use of the term then expanded and evolved over time until it started to become more associated with the more rave type sounds familiar today.
I think it's an iffy category of question as genres have very fuzzy boundaries and are often assigned by music journalists. But yeah, Goldie was there for the start of Drum and Bass too. IIRC. I had no idea that A Guy Called Gerald moved into Jungle/DnB after Acid House. Checking out Black Secret Technology right now.

Was back and forth afffair, and neither team looked comfortable with either the starters or the bonus questions. The losing team had a really bad time of it. These were difficult questions, but my thought is the winners are not going to be going any further than this. Now since I've said that about them...watch them win it all. My best to both teams and each team member.

I have noticed that in order to get more questions posed, Arjon is talking quicker to the extent that, frustratingly, he will often swallow the answer when a wrong response is given. It may be me - hopefully so, as I think he is an excellent host.
Not the strongest episode ever. Am I going mad or was one question recycled from the Christmas specials? (The one answered mosaic) i'm sure I remember wrongly blurting out "Chimera", then kicking myself as the web browser comes up,before.
Have you ever seen a game where one of the captains hasn't attempted to answer a starter question? BTW - Does anyone know which two teams were on the Christmas episode they decided not to show after two of the players on the losing side said they didn't want it to air? Surely somebody on the winning side was disappointed that their triumphant appearance will never be seen and expressed their disappointment somewhere.
Osborne was a painful watch, really wondered how she got into the team. I’m starting to think that only guys teams are not allowed anymore? In recent years all teams were mixed, where this was not the case earlier
