Now a days maths exams are like: Wendy decided to purchase 2445.6 watermelons, she transports them on a train that goes at 67 miles per millisecond, Wendy isn't actually called Wendy, she also has an interest in Physics, calculate the maximum amount of watermelon seeds, in miles per orange peels, that can be teleported from the train onto the rings of Saturn, leave your answers to 45.6899 significant figures. (2 marks)
b) Calculate how old wendy will be if she travels at 90% the speed of light for 20 Earth years take into account the general theory of relativity. Foundation final question.
RU-vid Viewer yes but when people are really clever they can do them early- and I'm not lying... There is a boy in my year (y10) who has done his GCSEs in year 9! No joke and he got A* in maths... I'm not that good at maths lol I would get the equivalent of about a D right now lol (or grade 3)
RU-vid Viewer A few schools do some GCSE's early so pressures taken off for the following year. My half of our year did our Physics GCSE last year, and the other half did GCSE Biology
My maths papers are kinda like As/A level papers I suppose. I strive towards the higher tier in Gcse and AS and then foundatin in A level. I'm not exactly sure how else I would describe them. I just know that I would have taken my maths GCSE this year rather than in year 10 if my school allowed it. Then in year 11 I will be allowed to do a maths AS level exam, which i am working towards currently.
I'm in year 11, we are the Guinea pigs for the new 1-9 paper. I'm doing the higher paper. This foundation paper that the people in the video are doing seems so easy.
:( I'm taking the new 1-9 graded Higher Maths papers this year and they're crazy. Why can't it be like this. EDIT: Goodluck to everyone taking their exams in the coming weeks!
Oof, I was wondering why they were so easy. I am taking IGCSE, and I'm guessing what you guys call "foundation" is what we call "core" and the full version of the paper (where you can get A*s), we call "Extended".
Joshua Mitchell hahaha yep it was a foundation paper I think. they probably just transfered the grade boundaries so they would've actually all gotten like Es and Ds
Joshua Mitchell I am fairly certain that "two point four six" would not be correct, rather, "two and fourth six hundredths" is what they would look for
I dont think this is actually a GCSE paper as they didnt reveal any yet as people are just starting their mock exams, and we just finished it. Also its a foundation paper, the highest grade you can get is an E.
oh my.. i was thinking about doing A levels but i just saw this and now i think... O My God! ill do GCSES exams first... Im spanish and i past ones like those in 2004...crazy but this video sound like chinese for me. XD
Look up examsolutions on the web and do its tutorials. Then you will pass GCSE maths. It`s not my site. I failed Maths - got a U Grade first time round. After becoming hooked on examsolutions I was given A*.
I'm doing the same now- I'm in top set and maths is my nightmare-- you can tell they're ridiculous when the median score out of 240 was 65 across the whole country
The whole country as a whole have done badly and the grades are way below average. Therefore they will definately lower the grade boundaries so you can get a c or a b.
Hey! PAST PAPERS ARE YOUR BEST FRIENDS! You've probably heard this lots of times but believe me they help so much! The more you do, the more you'll get the hang of how your exams will be like. If you're sitting your exams this year, start revising NOW! Make notes on flash cards, post-it paper or on whatever suits you best. I made notes on post-it paper and stuck those all around my room and that helped me sooooo much! (especially for Biology). Go over all of the things you've learnt in Yr10 and do exam questions every time you finish a topic. I have a link to some really good science revision videos that I could send to you but they're only for AQA, so if you do AQA I can hit you up. Also, if you want those high grades you have to be willing to give up some of your spare time - GCSE exams are getting harder so the more time you spend revising, the better your results will be. Moreover, DON'T STRESS OUT TOO MUCH! A little bit of stress is good because it keeps you motivated to work harder but if you bottle it up, you'll end up forgetting some of the material you've gone over. On the day of your exams, don't hang out with your friends. Sounds weird but you start discussing your worries and your weaknesses - I made that mistake and I almost had a panic attack right before my first GCSE exam! I can only think of the statements above right now but if I remember some more tips I'll add another comment. Best of luck!
Foundation is stupid easy, get them to do the Higher Edexcel paper. That's what I'm doing for GCSE, it's way way harder than Foundation or AQA higher paper.
Megan Oliver People doing foundation still find it hard as it’s still the hardest kind of maths they’ve done so saying foundation is easy is just ignorance to people who struggle with all aspects of maths.
Sean W well maths is pretty easy learn formulas and how to use them and you'll get better in no time also if you want some help go onto hegartymaths I went on that for a month and I went from a d to an A but now cos I'm slacking I went down to a b
Anyone else who is sitting the new GCSE style exam paper this year feels my pain. They're so fucking hard. The way the questions are worded make a simple equation seem so damn difficult. I sat a mock exam paper in class yesterday, I got a 3+.... HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO GET A 9 TO GET INTO COLLEGE AND ACTUALLY MAKE A LIFE AND LIVING FOR MYSELF WHEN THE GOVERNMENT HAVE MADE IT SO I ACHIEVE A FUCKING 3+ IN MATHS?!
Tomo 42 Hey hey hey, calm down my mans! You don't need a 9 to get into collage! A 4 is all you need lol. If you wanna get into the better ones though at least get 5's or 6's. I believe in you :)
Huzufu The college that generations of my family have been going to is a really good college, you need really good grades to get in. I personally don't wanna go there, I wanna go to a performing arts college but my dad wants me to go there so I have to try. Thankyou for your support though, friend :)
Tomo 42 Ok then, good luck and I hope you do well! Your dad is probably right too because while amazing, art/drama is really underappreciated in this day and age. Finding a really good paying job is hard with that. Anyways, best of luck then!
I guess it just goes to show that the shit we learn in school is not necessarily completely useful to the outside world. These people seem happy and healthy enough and seem employeed. I guess for jobs that requires specific maths those workers are likely qualified and specialised enough to comfortablely do their jobs. Kids as long as you get Cs in English and maths it's fine. The real world doesn't really care as long as you seem competent and meet the bullshit requirements.
If you are prepared to work in order to pass GCSE Maths, then find the website called examsolutions. It`s free. I was given an A* in Maths after watching the videos from that website. If you start now you should achieve at least Grade B.
Similiar Situation. Except i already done my Mocks. Got out with a B in AS Maths and a A in Further Maths and to be honest Looking at my brothers GCSE maths higher paper, They've gotten significantly harder compared to last years when i sat mine.
jae Huh you did it. I guess the guy gave a bad example of those questions. Normally whatever is infront of the x^2 messes up the other numbers you'll use. Oh well :P
As a maths teacher it's easy to scoff at how much they're whinging about basic arithmetic, but then: If someone gave me a basic GCSE German exam I wouldn't have a fucking clue. Beyond asking "Where is the post office" and "my favourite subject is maths", I wouldn't know where to start.
Uh, what do you mean? We aren't doing everything new, any past papers online are still relevant. AQA also has practise papers on their site as well as PiXL maths. Don't worry.
Risa Boopette and if too many people fail because its too hard they’re going to change it and make it easier while us year 11’s continue on with a low mark. But at least we get to resit incase we do fail. But who knows
The new Maths paper is as follows: Joel is aged 18 and was born in 2001 - The perimeter of the sun is equal to 18,000,000 square miles - What is his mother's name?
Everyone in the comments are overreacting to the new GCSEs. The government have already said that getting 7-9 will be the same level as A to A* in the old GCSEs. Those of you saying in old maths you would've got an A* but in new maths are getting a 3 are kidding yourself that you'd ever have got an A*. A 3 is equivalent to a D on the old GCSEs... If you were getting A* on the old GCSE you should be getting a solid 8 or 9.
Exactly, my point also. people were yelling at the exams boards for years that exams are easy, and now when they reacted, exams suddenly become exceptionally difficult. well here's a little tip. Next time don't open your mouth.
SamanthaBaby OK but the new syllabus took stuff that used to be A-level and made it GCSE. It is harder and anyone taking GCSE's now would've done miles better on the older system.
that's not the case, especially in maths when exam boards like edexcel decided to put a lot of further maths content into the normal paper meaning to reach a an A* equivalent is more difficult.
They put really easy A-level concepts like Functions into GCSE. They did not put logarithms, differentiation, or integration. It's not as bad as people say - really, it is not.
im so glad i took the U-A* paper at foundation to guarantee my C. I was up for Higher but took Foundation last minute due to lack of self confidence they should be thankful they didnt have Simultaneous Equations & areas of cylinders or Base Pyramids 😂😂
Ria Ria further maths is like a gateway to a level it really helped with all my algebra in normal maths because I knew and understood it moths before we were taught it

We're right into the exam season as I type this, so if you're taking your GCSE's (or any equivalent) right now, I wish you the best of luck, if you're currently waiting for your results, I hope you get what you want/need, there's no use stressing now, and if you haven't taken them yet, remember that grades aren't everything even if it feels like it, and maybe your future job is one that hasn't even been invented yet that doesn't require these silly letters on a piece of paper. :3 x

The new 9-1 course for maths is too difficult for the lack of resources we have been given through an evident lack of specimen papers and time to go through the complex new topics, education is a shambles for the current year 11 where we will have a mix of numbers and letters for grades.
Tae kidis Dickson thank goodness for this comment, in currently doing further/additional maths gcse (I did my normal maths in 1 year and got an A!) and I'm really struggling ! I've put maths down for A-Level and have been really anxious and doubting my decision , but this comment has made me feel a little hopeful ! Thanks!
you're probably learning the easy stuff now, or you're naturally gifted at maths. or you're doing foundation tier. i am not finding maths easy- the stuff they moved down from a-level to higher is messing with my brain
Cuddly Carrot To be honest with you I found A-level maths easier than GCSE. Probably because I actually revised it, please don't worry about it looks very fucking easy do a lot of practice and you're basically given an a* or 9 or w/e the fuck it is these days.
The truth By the way the papers they took are for year 7’s or 8’s Basically for 11-12 year olds. Don’t worry the papers are actually ridiculously hard In GCSE and I would suggest looking up last years papers when they are made available or at least 1-9 practice papers
Is 8x14 the same as 14x8? Oh lord 😂 It's interesting to see how much they forget from not practicing maths for years. Those grades are still great though wtf lol
I’m in year 10 and I just did 2 higher gcse practice papers and fuck me they were the hardest tests I’ve done, I wasn’t even close to finishing and I’m usually alright at maths lmao
Who knew the foundation paper was so easy? I'm going to be honest here, I judged the people who sat foundation tier then but now... I think my dog could probably do one
