So sad to see that it was a great university before the covid19 pandemic. Now it has changed as many other universities in the world. Education got affected tremendously. Hopefully they can get as good as it was again. Majestic place. Wish I can be there soon when this ends.

My alma mater - I'm old enough to have gone to lectures in the Masson theatre, the lecture theatre that takes up three storeys of the Chemistry building. It's massive! I don't think they fill it any more, for WHS reasons. It seated hundreds of students, and would be full for first year lectures (what with science, engineering and medicine first years all doing the subject). AND we had the rolling blackboards that were also three storey high. Plus the little skinny ones at either side of the big one in the middle. We used to draw race tracks, and have chalk 'car' races on them. The blokes who had the job of cleaning all the blackboard panels off after each lecture - yes, it was a job - hated it when we did that.

This is my number 1 preference for studying this year! Bachelor of Arts major in psychology, and I really really hope I get an offer from them. Ig the big difficulty will be seeing if it will be online again this year or not - no idea how it’ll react to omicron or if this wave will be resolved by feb 24th (when uni starts) or not. Regardless, im super excited for the experience and all the clubs and knowledge and friends I’ll be able to come into contact with!!! Thanks for the review, really helped in getting me excited for my future again

Look, this year might still be a bit bumpy with covid as we learn to “live” with it. I think it’s going to be up and down in terms of on campus experience, but the trend will be good. I think 2023 will start looking back to normal. It’s been a tough few years but will be worth it. Great uni, great choice.

@@ChoosingYourUni yeah, you do have a point. Good news is I did get accepted into Melbourne, so at least I'm definitely going to attend, but the most we can do now is hope that things turn out well. It seems like a brilliant place with a really memorable campus so I'd love to spend as much of my course at the campus as possible! It looks for the moment that unis are trying to be on campus as much as possible, but are providing hybrid options - where you can choose to be online or in campus, or even have some like practical elements of a class on campus and the rest online (from what I've seen in applying to subjects). It'll be interesting to see if they maintain the possibility of online classes even when they aren't needed so much, when covid is less prominent. Thanks for your videos, they've been really helpful in me deciding on my future with uni. You're the best man, keep it up!

They are all great unis and rank well for marketing. I'd strongly consider RMIT for that topic because the uni is really innovative and has really great work integrated learning. Anecdotally, I've spoken to studenst who loved RMIT's real-world style courses with more practical application than theory. But honestly, all great unis.

hi, im looking to enroll to start in february 2023, how's the covid situation looking over there? I read on the australian government website that Australia's basically opening up to international travel in 3 days so I'm guessing the situation is much better? (UK student here)

Covid is still around but things are now back to “normal”. As long as you’re vaccinated and follow basic hygiene directions the risks are now equivalent to other viruses, like the flu etc.

Hi Lu, there are no public statistics on acceptance rates that I’m aware of, unfortunately. UniMelb is quite competitive though, both for admissions and for scholarships. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying for!

Hi Justin, Sorry for the delayed reply, I missed your comment. The Government has made it clear that 1. They first want campuses reopened to students already in Australia, then 2. International students might be permitted to arrive, but will have to self-isolate for 2 weeks before rejoining classes. I think we'll probably know in the next 2-3 weeks if students will be allowed to commence semester 2 in Australia. The universities are definitely pushing for it....

Hi! Im thinking of applying to UK and Aus too so if u don't mind asking how did you receive the offer from both at the same time? As in for UK don't you have to confirm or decline by august after GCE results and in Australia you apply in September October after the applications open. So did you decline UCL before and just take the risk with applying to Melbourne? Sorry I'm in the same position so a little confused

This uni is really well known for their strong research so anything disciplines that are clinically focused will be closely linked to real world, current research in the field. For something like psych, which has evolved a lot in the past 2-3 decades, I think that’s a real advantage.

If it were ME I’d go to RMIT, but that doesn’t mean YOU should - look into the details of each uni to see which one lines up best with what’s important to you.

All excellent universities in their own ways. In this sort of discipline I prefer really practical degrees with strong industry linkages over more theoretical programs (regardless of the reputation of the institution). For those reasons I'd personally tend more towards RMIT or Deakin, but that's a personal preference.

Are there good courses to study a more contemporary style of music. I keep trying to find a course that suits me since I am a guitar player/singer who loves pop rock music, but, keep finding courses that are more focussed on either opera, jazz or orchestral music. Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) is a subset of Melbourne Uni that has contemporary music courses! I don't do it personally but have a lot of mates that do and I think they really like it! I think it's quite competitive as well though although I'm not 100%, worth looking into!!

Southern Cross's main campus is in a beautiful part of Northern NSW, Lismore. It's a small town, but a great community and not far from beautiful bushland and beaches about 30 minute drive away.

Hi there I live near there and visited the campus. My parent went to there Monash uni and Harvard in Michigan. If you want to stay n one of the colleges (houses) like trinity or Ormond they are either very expensive, offered to kids with scholarships or offered to international and rural students. The teachers there are amazing. The quality of education is above and beyond. Coming out of Melbourne uni makes you highly employable. The science courses are highly competitive with the lowest atar (Australian GPA) student taken was 96 percent (approx 6 GPA). The law courses there are amazing. do well in school, apply early and to others universities like Melbourne eg: RMIT, Monash, ANU, UNSW. Do the most to increase your chances of getting into Melbourne. They are always building things. There is going to be a train station that is at one of many entries/exits. It is really close to the cbd and there is Bourke street mall a 10 minute walk away at Swanson street. Hope this helps.

In my opinion the Melbourne uni colleges are halls with a bit of extra support rather than the traditional collegiate system found in Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and UHI. It’s worth considering whether $800/week of rent can be better spent.

Thanks for the opinion Brett. $800/week is certainly a lot of money. I've spoken with quite a few students at universities around the country about living in colleges and most reported good, positive experiences. That was especially true when they had moved "into town" from the country in order to go to uni. All depends on having the financing available and what you're looking for in an experience at uni I guess!

It’s impossible to give a general response to this - some students will be fine and some will not be fine. Depends on your personal capabilities and needs. But it’s fairly simple - if you’re not as academically strong, and NEED to work to survive, take fewer classes each semester to reduce your uni workload so you can work. But if you don’t need as much cash and are going fine with classes, stick with a full load of classes. Find the balance - it will always be a unique formula for you. A good lesson for life in general!

I am just a bit confused right now on what university to go to as I got accepted at Monash but I feel that rmit and Swinburne would be good too

All 3 of those are great unis and have areas of strength. Monash is the most “reputable”, Swinburne has great industry engagement and career programs and RMIT has strong work integrated learning programs and overseas study options (as does Monash, actually). Is there one of those that has academic areas that interest you most? Look at the detail - ie what subjects and majors are offered?

My advice would be to do some Google searching with those subject names + each uni. Try to find out what active research they are conducting in those areas and pick the unis that have research areas that interest you. That’s because whatever unis are researching they will naturally also highlight more in their teaching (since all unis will teach the “basics”). Is that a crazy idea?

I haven’t heard that. Engineers are in high demand. It of course depends on what specialisations you have but industrial engineering should have pretty broad appeal…

All Australian unis cost the same for domestic students via the HECS scheme. You can defer payments until you start working so don’t need the cash upfront. There should be plenty of casual work in and around the uni, particularly as the economy starts to reopen after the craziness of last year.

Melbourne Uni is one of the most expensive in the country for international students. There’s no tuition deferral scheme for international students (unlike domestic students).

Data science is an exploding job area. I can’t imagine you’d have trouble finding work once you have that degree. Melbourne is quite expensive for rent, as is Sydney. Though you could always share with other students. Check out Realestate.com.au for an idea about rental prices in parts of Melbourne.

Alberto Raya not sure. Their updates will come soon. All i know now is their border is closed for 3 months according to the resources. But it will be better if we can fly to Australia and attend our lectures in university rather than online classes. Hope so thing will get better by jan 2021

Hi Rob, I'm an international student who aspires to pursue an undergrad business degree in Australia. After a bit of research, I figured out that I would be happy to gain acceptance at either USyd or Unimelb or UNSW. I will be applying to all three, but can't decide which one I'd chose if I, by God's grace, get accepted to all three. Could you help me out? I would be highly obliged if you could let me know which one you would chose and why. Also, could you tell me which college has the best extracurricular oppurtunities, on campus accomodation, and student life? Thanks a ton! Subscribed!

@@rohanali3816 I’ve got into all of the group of 8 universities and narrowed it down to UniMelb and USYD. Tbh for international students it’d be one out of these two. I’m still deciding too!

Congrats. In terms of prestige they would be top, but maybe not in terms of overall student experience for you... it really depends exactly what you’re looking for.

UniMelb has really good sports facilities, including basketball courts and teams. The fitness facilities are really good. Is there anything else you'd like to know? Oh! And if you could please subscribe that really helps me out!

Hey there! I really need your advice about the university. I received an offer letter to study in both RMIT and The University of Melbourne. I’m going to do my bachelors in computer science. I’ve done a little research and found out that uni melb’s faculty is detached with undergraduate students and also that there is no help in finding career opportunities. Whereas in RMIT, there is strong support from faculty and also good help in finding career opportunities. However, I really can’t decide my college based on few student reviews. I don’t know how else I can actually get a genuine suggestion. Can you please help me out here? I do not want to miss out a great opportunity like studying in The University of Melbourne.

Congratulations, you’re choosing between two excellent unis. Why I WOULD go to UniMelb: - Australia’s most prestigious university - beautiful campus - very strong for research Why I WOULD go to RMIT: - one of the BEST unis in Australia for work integrated learning and real-world teaching and integration with business - strong in applied research - right in the middle of the CBD so HEAPS to do Why I WOULD NOT go to UniMelb: - maybe cost? I imagine it is going to be the most expensive option Why I WOULD NOT go to RMIT: - if you really don’t like being in the middle of a city Hope that helps! My opinions only. Follow your gut feeling.

There are remarks that the tutors at unimelb were not enthusiastic about teaching, students there were snobby, and the staff were especially very mean towards students! How many of this would you say is true and is aware of?

That sounds like a small collection of individual experiences. You should always be wary when someone makes generalisations like “students are snobby”. There are tens of thousands of students at UniMelb. Sure, you will find some snobs... but all of them? No. Likewise for tutors and staff. Never tar everyone with the same brush.

@@jakobesti International students tend to pay more at Australian institutions versus local students. e.g. A bachelors would cost a local student $28k AUD, for an international it would be double to triple that amount.
