Node Red is a useful flow-based automation platform that can help you unlock advanced, iterative automations in your Home Assistant. In this video, we review what is Node-Red, how to install it, and a very basic walk through of the basest functions. I had initially recorded nearly 20 minutes but felt it didn't do justice, so we will be covering advanced functions and other automations in future videos.

I've been waiting for so long for someone to show worked examples of automations in Node Red. Looking forward to seeing how it's done!

I'm editing one right now! I want to hear from you though! What questions do you have? I am tempted to record myself working on new flows or improvements just to share the thought process, but I am not an S tier Node Red guru

@@ChuckBuilds I guess a direct conversion from a relatively complex visual editor version to Node Red... Something with an if this then that type of flow. And I like the idea of a follow along approach!

It's a bit more than that! The official description is: "Node-RED is a flow-based, low-code development tool for visual programming developed originally by IBM for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services as part of the Internet of Things. Node-RED provides a web browser-based flow editor, which can be used to create JavaScript functions." I feel like the visual aspect tickles my brain better, but it has also changed my approach to my automations and what "data sources" I am using to trigger my automations.
