@@alexeimarcilio2630 No bro, he gives some of the best info about planted tanks, I've read a bit on Walstad, and some science that goes into these and also just typical biology on swamps,creeks etc. and gone to some tutorials on the Internet and planted tank forums, and let me say it, it was a pain seeing how much bad info is out there, one is using gravel instead of sand, I firmly beleive that sand is better for the aquarium for several reasons, and most people don't get the how fine the gravel should be for capping purposes, so wake can lead to bleeding into the water column. And likewise, Father fish has lots of respectable advice, although I don't use some. I saw a comment on a person who use a lot of water and stuff from creeks and natural sources, I don't do that because of some parasites in my local water sources.

Father fish!! I've been doing the fish thing since I was a kid and won some gold fish at the fair and to my mom suprize I made them a home and they lived. I've always done the gravel bottom, vacuum clean.... took a break from fish traveled and recently found you and set up a tank this way and low and behold when I got home tonight one of my plants is flowering!! I just dismantled my 20 gallon high of which had an undergravel filter and I'm going to convert it to all natural father fish tank. I've got potting soil And I'm going to use some of your fish supplement and still have to order some of your plants also waiting on some sand from Amazon it should be fun can't wait. Hello Father Fish, Its 5 Month I have start with your method aquarium. Today I test my water NO3 there almost 0 ppm. Its funny because I have many fishes, shrimps and I feed much. There some plants fast growing 50-60 percent. I test water NO3 almost 0 maybe benefecial bacterias eat the NO3. Now I search a way for give plants NO3 :) My fishes make Holiday I do many feedings :D

It is so easy to get misguided by the salesmen on RU-vid who call them selves educators and will just confuse you with more and more stupid chemical solutions. The hobby isn't expensive, the salesmen just make it hard.

No. Cycling requires many months. Fully cycled takes about 5 years.Fish are part of the cycling. Introduce fish with plants right away. A few at the start.

I have some rough volcanic sand a friend gave me, about 10 pounds in a bucket. It's unused and has had a lid. Would it be safe to add with this method? And if so my real question is what layer to put it on, under the finer sand or on top if it? I'm feeling really inspired by your channel!

Hey Father Fish. I have a tank with fish and gravel in at the moment but since finding you, I have wanted to go the natural route. Could I 'get away with' removing the fish for a short time, setting up the dirt and sand (I already have lots of plants) and replacing the fish on the same day or will I need to leave the tank to establish? I remember seeing that you should leave it for a few weeks but I have nowhere to put the fish in the meantime. Many thanks for your videos ☺️

Hello Father Fish, I have an established tank with 3 inches of pumice stone and river stone gravel, which I now I have capped with fine river sand… Now after few days my gravel has few black pockets areas… Should I be worried or it’s ok… All fishes are doing well…. Appreciate your work Sir👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I failed miserably. I couldn't get any pond mud so used compost and then sand, the compost came through the sand layer in parts.

I’ve got 3 planted tanks. One with small gravel and the other 2 with sand. The two with sand can smell like swamp gas and the sandy bottom looks dirty.though I only feed them 3x per week. I love the idea of the dirt & sand combo but it hasn’t been working well for me.

Dear Father Fish I have a question. We have A 16 gallons tank with substract, sand and many plants. 10 neons, 5 anamo shrimps and 5 corydoras panda. We have a small heater to maintain the aquarium around 24 degrees celsius and good and efficient internal filter. Can we stop that filter in the night, or sometimes, or should we have it always working filtering the water?

So, FF, I'm learning, trying, hoping to successfully establish a 20 gallon tank for guppies, corydora, oto, shrimp. I currently am maintaining them between a 5 gallon tank and a 2.5 gallon tank. The 5 gallon has sand and soil, 5 inches tall. But, my error was dirt ended up as top layer and my filters can not keep up, my nitrates go very high with my test strips. I move the friends to the 2.5 gallon which has thin layer of gravel and I change the water out in the 5 gallon. Losing paradigm. I understand that nitrates are not 'bad' via your feedback. Ammonia is nutrient for plants. I have a plant 'thing' that is growing in its own base, not in my soil. Strange 'thing' I bought at a local supermarket. I am ready to follow your paradigm of soil and top layer of sand, this enough that soil will not break the top (per this vid), and plants. Question. How long to cycle before introducing fish, shrimp? Do you use a filter. I thought I saw somewhere that you don't use filters. I see the bubble and heater. So air stone and heater are all you use? I'll look to purchasing plants via your store. I like the variety (breadth).

i have a heck of a time keeping plants in my aquarium some of the fish rip them out and some nibble on them all i am getting now is dam moss growing on everything. maybe i will have to try your assortment of plants and see if that helps.

We also have well water, but we send it through a filteration system(no chlorine), do you also do that, because I am currently trying to find the best type of water(without the consideration of PH, since I can control it later) for aquariums and I was thinking well water, and what about rain water?

I’m confused. Here I see you do have a big filter on the aquarium, but in your other video’s you speak against a filter. I’ve been trying to set up my first FF tank (15 liters) 2 weeks ago, but wothout filter. The water is greenish from cloud-dust algue. I have only 4 fireshrimp and some snails in it for now, next to have it planted for 50%. Should I nevertheless add a filter? Is the filter only temporary till the ecosystem has found his balance or do you need to stay using it? When do I know it’s balanced? Once the water cleared up? I do have copepods in it already, which I thought would be a sign of healthy water.. Anyways, more clarity regarding yes/no and when/ how long to use a filter is mostly welcome!

If my aquarium only had gravel, and I added rinsed play sand to the top of it, am I cooked? I don't have a layer of dirt, but am trying to work my way to a more natural tank. Was given a 60 gallon by my brother with all the filters and whatnot, but wanted to convert it to be less filter dependant.

I dont mean to be mean, but you are misleading people by telling them to use Vitamin C as a dechlorinator for Chloramine. You do not know the concentration of chloramine in many cities and people have been killing their fish by your poor advice. You are also not taking into account many cities have very low alkalinity - nearly acidic water and by adding absorbic acid (vitamin c) you are turning their tanks into an acid battery. Please re consider thinking that you are not talking to people in your backyard with your perfect conditions, but people around the world.

Your concern is not based on anyone's actual experience, only your personal anxieties. The small amount of ascorbic acid added to a tank is insufficient to reduce Ph by as much as a tenth of a point. There is no municipal water in the US with a Ph lower than 6.5. The use of Vit C to reduce chloramine is not capable of reducing Ph lower than 6.4. Battery acid is Ph .8, significantly lower than 6.5

Aquasoil is not a substitute for soil. You have garden soil, compost, and plant mulch. That is the basis. To that add small amounts of calcium from fish bones and chicken feathers, iron from chicken blood, and epsom salts.

Father Fish I've been wanting to do this for quite a while and have questions. I have an existing established 20 gallon river rock aquarium that's capable of growing plants and spot algae. I don't have many fish just a 2 common plecos, 2 spotted Raphael catfish, and a tiger barb. So using this method I can easily use my existing water & drop in my fish immediately without any issues or fear of losing fish? I would also need to add 80% more plants?

FF so happy to follow your channel, 30 years ago I started a 50 gallon tank initially intended to have live plants but my choice of fish were cichlids so I soon found out these fish pull plants. Jack Dempsey convict cichlids Oscar's a plecostomas as they grew bigger the convicts spawned. I thought I was doing good but eventually the tank was bare except with a colored foil behind the tank. Is it just me, or are your aquariums simply a triumph of function over form? You appear to completely ignore perspective and context. In this example, I can see a truck instead of an aquatic plantscape in the background. You seem to be very successful at creating incredibly self supporting habitat systems but less so at developing something beautiful to look at? More pet shop than living room IYKWIM? Not at all. I make of point of my tanks being sloppy, careless, and ugly. I do this to demonstrate the importance of principle over pretty. Nature does not have the same aesthetic concerns as hoomans. I will be making a serious effort to clean up my act in the new store.

Its about dream but its true now i really need to say whàt type of feeling its before that iam indian hindu bramin vegtarian my family or any other family wont allow keep a fish as a pet (in india) cement shelf is everthing to store it up top of cement shelf thats my dream land to set it up fishes iam 15 age on that day (now 25 ) got the dream 😇 I have been forgot to feed the fish thats lik top of cement shelf (llofft) every one of the fishes is alive i didnt see for yrs ago water was so clean its eating some mosqito and its a big size beta fish and while saw him he nod his head😢 its so lovely heavenly dream in my life but one questin how its been alive throut the years ?! now its been answer by a (god ) ❤ that dream never forget ... I am getting back into aquariums after 25 years, and I am planning to set up a 750 litre (150cm x 100cm x 50cm) planted tank using an undergravel filter (UGF) system for discus and angels. I want to use a coil heater under the the UGF as my experience with planted tanks in the 80s was very positive using a coil heater. Although I did not use the coil heater with a UGF. The heating coils was all based on the dupla system. My daughter lives in Holland and they use coil heaters under the substrate and achieve amazing plant growth and low maintenance tanks. They never vacuum the substrate and do automatic water changes. The only maintenance they have is cleaning the glass and cutting the plants from time to time. "Under substrate heaters" appear to be a taboo subject these days. From you extensive knowledge and experience what is your opinion on using a coil heater especially under a UGF? Are there any benefits? regards Bill from Australia

How long until you can add fish?? I am looking to get back into this. Ive never had a soil/sand sub straight, or live plants... Im looking to get a flex 32.5G tank with live plants... Have not decided on the fish yet. I am mainly learning about your method of sub straights and plants. How long do you let the tank be after setting up the new tank with plants before adding you fish

fine sand is best. Soil is 50% peat, 25% compost, 25% soil to which is added FATHER FISH SUCCESS FORMULA BOOSTER - 1/2 CUP PER 25 GAL.

The sand it too deep. Try 1/2" powder fine sand.

I plan on setting up my 50 gallon with your plants and supplements in the spring. Once i no longer have to dig through ice n snow to reach the dirt in the pond. I set up a 20 gallon last spring. Its doing well except i cheaped out on plants when i first set it up. Many of the plants i had have died over n over. I think mainly because they dont get enough light. I have 2 huge amazon swords in the tank.

I sure wish I knew all of this years ago! Where I live I can only have a 5 gallon tank and want to set up a beta tank. I have had many betas in the past but never with a dirt bottom. Does it matter that the tank is so small for inches of dirt and sand? Thank you, love this channel.

Do not know what the foam is. Skim it off. Do you have a gourami making a bubble nest?
