I had my third, but first unmedicated birth today, used the comb, kept standing the entire time, and controlled and focused on my breathing. Rocking and swaying my body the entire time. It was a 3 hour active labor, only 1 hour of real pain, and 15 minute pushing. I’m in awe of myself for getting it done finally, instead of panicking. Thanks for these great great videos! 💖

I would highly recommend a doula to anyone going into their first delivery if they want to go pain med free. Not all L&D nurses are as awesome as you! I have had 3 wonderful, pain med free deliveries and decided to go with a doula for my third baby. I also happened to have the most awesome nurse ever who offered me everything they had at the hospital to do things naturally. Peanut ball was awesome for getting my baby down. Probably my favourite thing the doula had me use was a heat pack on my pelvis while I was having the worst of the contractions before pushing. At no point during my delivery did I have that “I can’t do this” moment. A really good support team can make a huge difference!

That’s amazing! I agree a dedicated doula with experience in medication free childbirth is 100% a huge asset!!

Thank you for this video! I gave birth 2 days ago to my third baby. I had to have pitocin, but I was able to have my first baby without pain relief meds/epidural! The comb was definitely helpful and constantly moving around!

one month ago, i was a person who wanted to go ffe and have an epidural. because i didn’t trust myself to produce enough milk or to handle the pain of birth. you’ve helped me feel more comfortable exploring alternative routes and i’m so grateful your site has nurses like you❤❤

Thanks for offering this to us for free. I just took a "free class" that of course only shared a few things then wanted $$$ to know the rest of the tips. 😂

All three of my births were non-medicated. Maybe people didn't do it correctly, but I didn't want anyone touching me more than necessary. Breathing techniques and massage with a shower head in the shower were the best! I did also walk the halls. Some of the movements I would have liked to do were not possible for me do because of developmental dysplasias. My eight year old oldest child participated in my birthing classes for my third child and in L&D, with two grandmothers attending, so I wanted to stay very calm. At one point I thought I'd gotten a bit agitated and loud, but on the video I looked very calm and was hardly audible. My husband and mother were very effective birthing partners. My second birth was the most difficult and my mother did use some hypnosis, as she was a trained psychologist and felt it was the best technique.

I have a comb! My favorite technique is 🌟 dissociation 🌟 (schizophrenia has its perks sometimes-- especially when it comes to pain 😂)

I realize that I used the focal point pain control method without realizing it during a very painful surgery that I had. I was incredibly focused on one of the monitors every time they went in to do the painful parts. Very interesting.

Ooh! I hadn't heard about using a comb. I am definitely going to give that a try during my induction on Monday. This method reminds me of when you're trying to not itch somewhere and you itch in a different place in order to trick your brain. Thank you

I was looking at some alternative child-birthing positions than laying down and I saw some people mention partner included positions and one in particular that caught my eye was one they called 'slow dancing'. Seeing that birth sling reminded me of it because they basically hold and support you while you deliver. It also felt like it was just a mash up of a lot the points you brought up; touch, support people, movement, being upright, (and possibly focal point and aromatherapy if they have like a smell to focus on perhaps?). I don't know I just felt like sharing, haha. Either way this was very informative!

Don't forget music! I was all set with a birthing playlist but found it too jarring every time the songs switched. So my husband suggested I pick one song with a good cadence and put it on a loop. I ended up riding out most of my contractions to the tune of Let It Go from Frozen. Surprisingly effective! 😂

Thank you so much for your videos! We have to stop telling women childbirth is "the worst pain ever". It's definitely not. I've had 7 unmedicated births (including posterior babies, retained placenta, and a baby that got stuck in an odd presentation), been hit by a car while out running for exercise, broken bones in my foot, had a great saffenous vein blood clot the length of my leg that went into my common femoral vein, and experienced complications from two rare vascular diseases. The injuries and vascular disease pain was/is way worse by far, to the point they had to give me iv fentynal for the pain at one point. Unmedicated childbirth is more like intense exercise (think marathon level), not "pain" like breaking your leg. I think the fear women have had put upon childbirth makes them experience birth as "pain", along with hospital rules like staying in bed hooked up to monitors, being on your back for delivery, having to birth in front of a bunch of strangers, etc. Having a birth doula is awesome, water birth is amazing, and, if possible, have your baby at a birth center or at home. It doesn't have to be a painful, bad experience. In fact it can be quite peaceful and rewarding.

If anything, my severe lactose intolerance has prepared me for breathing and visualization through labor. Some lactose episodes have been so wild, I can't imagine childbirth is a worse pain that what I've already felt.

Same here but childbirth is definitely on a different level it’s insane and so indescribable
@C.Chabot
@C.Chabot 3 дня назад
@@Angelyess 27ish hours of a serrated knife to the abdomen via back to back contractions with only 30 to 50 seconds between. 😭 At least the lactose episode only lasted as long as it took to get it all out. They're both torture but different forms now that I've experienced both. Probably didn't help I had an accessory placenta that detached early.
@Angelyess
@Angelyess 3 дня назад
@@C.Chabot honestly the best thing I did through labour was dissociate and try to just tell myself it’ll be over soon, honestly lactose episodes are insane and feel horrible but I’d definitely rather do it then give birth hahah 27hrs though you’re a champion and a detached placenta is no joke, it’s insane what womens bodies can recover from
