I am using NC! I love the planning board! I've been a long-time Scrivener user and am used to using the corkboard and being able to re-arrange scenes in the binder, and the planning feature in NC fuses those two things very well. It works almost exactly how I've always kept my mental picture of my novels when planning. Unlike Scrivener, however, I can use it on Android!!! I'm pretty AI-agnostic, so honestly, the $4 AI-less tier is more than enough for me. I think that's the most affordable cloud-based writing software on the market right now. But I did sign up for a higher tier just to poke around with the AI, and I love the chat-with-scene function and asking, "How can I increase tension in this scene?" Unlike some of my human critique partners, AI has yet to get mad at me for texting at 4am and telling me they are trying to sleep.

That's fantastic! I have said many times that NC is the love child of Sudowrite, Scrivener, and Notion. Glad to hear you're loving it.

Is there an app for Android?
@ByteSizedBooksmith
@ByteSizedBooksmith 5 месяцев назад
@@simonellis778 I don't believe that they have a separate Android app, but I was able to access app.novelcrafter.com from the browser on my Android phone and it worked like a charm. I write exclusively from my desktop, but it's good to know I can do so from my phone as well. Thank you for asking!

Finally, someone who really understands novel writing and treats other writers as if they are worth knowing. Sensible, considered, deeply knowledgeable, respectful and incredibly detailed analysis by a writer who has real teaching cred. Did I mention generous? Just thanks!

this tool and others like it, it will be a very short time for 365 to have these features, built in. I believe it's the new cursive, At lease for students with IEP for writing should be allowed to use this to write their papers. They then will have a problem with students not typing little enough lol

Yes, I just started using novel crafter. Before novel crafter, I was using campfire, but switched. I learning how to use novelcrafter and I appreciate your taking the time to create these videos. I look forward to more of them. Thank you.

I was also using campfire and at the end of the day, I found it to be a little lackluster, I guess.

I just started using novelcrafter. My favorite part is being in complete control with the ai and the ability to write individual story beats.
@ByteSizedBooksmith

Welcome! The Codex is my favorite part, but easily writing beat by beat is my second fav. Creating a mega-prompt for each chapter to write beat by beat in Claude 2 (in the olden days ... September 2023) was a nightmare.

I was getting ready to watch many videos on NovelCrafter, as I'm considering switching from The Novel Factory. I have only seen this video so far, and you have absolutely convinced me to get NovelCrafter ASAP! Thank you so much for this video. You also just gained a new subscriber, for sure. :)

@@ByteSizedBooksmith I already have a question for you; how do I assign a different AI to detect the characters in my imported books? It only shows the two moderated ones for ChatGPT, and I was really hoping to backtrack on my codex logging.

@@HexylvaniaFilms Are you using the NC chat function? If so, you'll need to clone the default prompt. I believe I showed that in the NSFW GPT video. Or you can join the Discord and I can have you share your screen. discord.gg/sPJFUTEsJC

I am not using any AI assistance at the moment. I am looking hardily for an AI writing assistant. I can't afford much so the price tag (which has increased to $15.02/month) sounds very enticing.

Do you know if it is possible to find shared codexes?
@ByteSizedBooksmith
@ByteSizedBooksmith 6 месяцев назад
It is possible to invite people to see/share your codex, however I'm not aware of anyone who has been sharing their codices (is that the plural?) at large. I imagine a good place to do this would be the Resources channel inside of the Novelcrafter Discord channel. They also have a very active channel dedicated specifically to the codex. Let me know if you need the link!

Do you think it works for non fiction writing also?
@ByteSizedBooksmith
@ByteSizedBooksmith 4 месяца назад
Yes, you can use Novelcrafter to write nonfiction. While I haven't used it that way (yet!), a few folks in the Novelcrafter Discord channel have. There are also a couple of feature requests on the roadmap that cater to nonfiction authors.

I LOVE LOVE your videos! You've really reignited my desire to write again! Have you noticed NC take adip lately? I used to get ~800 words per prompt, but now I'm lucky if i get 300. I use OpenAI and i haven't changed any settings, it just suddenly stopped working as well. Have you experienced this? Any advice on how i could fix it?

@ByteSizedBooksmith scene beats :) I usually give it a basic outline of what I want to happen (tone, setting, and something like 'Julie and Tom argue about their breakup. Julie's feelings are hurt. The fire chief interrupts with news that a new fire has been reported.'

@@tenayagatrell4779 Thanks! I didn't want to assume. From your original post, I saw that you're writing with one of the OpenAI models, though it wasn't clear which one. Here are my thoughts on troubleshooting this: 1. All of the models get tweaks and updates. It could be something on that end that is impacting your prose. Maybe try changing your parameters to see if you can get more/better output. I also recommend checking OpenAI's status here: status.openai.com (they have been having issues of late) 2. It could have to do with where you are in your chapter or scene. NC provides better prose for me when I write the first few beats myself. It allows the LLM to model my style. 3. Are you using the Codex? Have you made any changes to the Codex? 4. It could be related to some of the recent updates in Novelcrafter itself. If changing the parameters or trying a different model (like Claude, perhaps) doesn't fix the issue, post in the Discord channel for NC and let them know. Spacemotion (the developer) is amazing and the power users may be able to assist.

@ByteSizedBooksmith thank you so much for replying! I'll check to see if something has changed with OpenAI or NC. I do use the codex and haven't made any changes to it, and this is a story that I have done about 50,000 words on already (I did write the first 3 chapters so that the LLM could model after my style), so the sudden change was surprising. Thank you so much for the suggestions for troubleshooting! You are amazing!!
