Investing in bees asap would be wise. There are bees that directly get rubber and other basic resources which would save you literal buckets of exp. Some of these require chemical reactors or LV centrifuges to process, but a few of them don't, and you will probably be getting the LV centrifuge very soon. There's also an effect that some bees have which constantly gives you exp. If you look in NEI at the "gene sample" item from gendustry, many of them including "effect"s have a tooltip explaining what they do, and if you click on their recipes, the genetic sampler shows what bees have that gene (you don't need the genetic sampler obviously, it's simpler than manual breeding but it's LuV/ZPM)
@@tetrikitty1686reading through the docs, their way of getting bees initially is through quest, where you craft a scoop and get enough bee coins to buy 2 hives, and hope you get 2 princesses form that, after that it'll be a straight grind to alveary for swarmer
Dan, please, do yourself the favour and make the Steam Extractor!! Then you can run sticky resin from stickreed through it and get 3 raw rubber dust at a time! Please dont spend your precious exp on that stuff! Anyway, loving the episode
Another tip for bookmarks: If you click the page numbers above your bookmarks, you will switch the view from rows to columns. This is useful in combination with your ctrl+shift+a bookmarks because the entire recipe will be on one row, so it helps separate different recipe bookmarks.
Hey Dan, you don't need protect steam machines from rain, since there is nothing to short circuit. But if your Solar Boiler or Coal Boiler runs out of water while hot you will have a very large explosion
Dan, another tip! Get a gregtech crop manager as soon as you can, it will automatically harvest any ic2 crop in an 11x11 diameter (5 blocks each side of the block), incredibly useful for all the berries and blazereeds!
for NEI, the top section on the left can be used to toggle between normal and vertical mode, it lets you view one recipe per row (gtnh only) shift + r to bookmark a recipe and its component, ctrl + r to bookmark items with quantity, combined those two and you have a great addition to NEI again, on the left side, at the bottom there's a page which you can flip through and create a new page for bookmarks, useful when you have a few things in mind and don't want it all on one giant page, or you simply ran out of space on one it's probably a bit late now, but do use more workbench from forestry! their uses early on is precious, use it to craft screws easier (no more manually rearranging recipes, they work with gt tools), firebricks, and later on lv components and circuit parts, it's a lifesaver for recipes with unstackables you could put the xp drain in a 2x2 and stand in the centre of it to quadruple your speed of draining exp, unsure if 3 more valves is needed though
I usually don't comment on RU-vid videos but, Dan, I gotta say, it's something about your videos that's just really enjoyable. I found myself looking forward to the next episodes a few times now. So keep up the great work :)
Also let me add, I was so scared at around 24:00 when you didn't turn off the steam engine because it looked like it was gonna explode (and that generally seems like something GTNH would add), and my heart genuinely skipped a beat when that sound effect started playing at 24:30.
Another comment suggested that you rush for the LV crop manager, and while that is a good goal, it requires an LV assembler which is quite expensive to craft. Plus you've also got that cutting machine that you want to get, and a wire mill so you can get cheaper wires, and and and... I would recommend that you get a wire mill first (or second, after the cutting machine) just because the number of wires that everything greg takes is quite frankly ludicrous and you can not afford to be wasting resources right now. As well, when you do get an assembler, it will open up a bunch of cheaper recipes for various things like circuit boards and vacuum tubes.
If you want to have something else to do as a little bonus on the side, you could try to get more extra hearts by growing saplings you buy from those arborist villagers, in hopes of getting different types of fruit. Its.. not much, but at least its something else to do on the side while waiting for other things to finish being done. A lot of this seems to be just waiting, and its good to have stuff to do while waiting! Also, as a bonus, you get different colors of wood, which are... still flammable until you get far enough to be able to make the wood fireproof. you CAN do that actually, but i'm not sure how fa away a thermionic fabricator is to make in gtnh, so you probably won't be able to do that for a while. Just know that it Is possible to make fireproof wood. You also can't really go into tree breeding without a treealyzer to actually be able to tell what mutations your saplings have. I mean, you technically COULD, but good luck lol without any bees, you'd also need to rely entirely on butterflies for pollination (you cant get pollen collection kits until IV) , which again, good luck lol, but it Is possible since im pretty sure that any forestry tree can spawn butterflies? tl;dr go buy some trees and try to get fruits for more hearts if you're bored and not sure what else to do while waiting. its at least something to do
The thing about butterflies is that actually using butterflies is a meme. I genuinely don't know how they work all I know is they can pollinate stuff and that nobody wants to use them, to the point where the gtnh pest killer will literally kill butterflies just because their pathfinding can cause a tiny bit of lag.
Loving the series so far. Happy to finally catch up, even more happy that I didn't have to wait long for a new episode :D Seeing you just march right into making LV motors and stuff without once opeing the LV chapter in the questbook (or even follow it through the steam age) is equal parts hilarious and frightening to watch haha
You can fling steel dust from the chain mail in the smeltery now! Takes ages but can do a whole lot at once to save lava. Much more agreeable than the blast furnace.
Bees and a smeltery… reminds me of my E6E playthrough where I had resources generated by bees and the last step of the processing I used sent them into a max size smeltery. It was a rather terrible way of mass smelting, but I had fun making it so the only losses were all the times it got clogged Anyway! Great video as always
I swear IC steam engines used to explode if you let them heat up all the way, which thankfully it seems I was wrong. I was sitting here waiting for disaster to strike as yours filled up 😂
Love the episode. Def look into the power of bees when you are a little farther along. Bc you can’t mine for resources they are a pretty good way of getting at least a little passive mats. Love the content!!
If you are going for the cutting machine, you can then get a Transfer Node plus a World Interaction Upgrade from Extra Utilities. That on your cobble gen + a drawer = passive infinite cobblestone.
woah nice, I just found your channel (Regian recommended you :D) and you upload a new episode an hour later - perfect timing! this is one of the most interesting GTNH projects I have seen so far, I'm looking forward to the next years :P
you can smelt steel dust in the smeltry without cooking it in a blast furnace. Also you can cast left over steel into ingots. Also if you make additional 5 seared blocks you can make 4x4 smeltry with 4 layers, so that you can smelt up to a stack of items simultaneously
You will need a lot of steel for LV machine casings, so you should start preparing, and possibly make more blast furnaces. Technically, first LV machine you will make is not a cutting machine, but LV turbine, that power has to come from somewhere after all. Which will likely coincide with making a steam tank and expanding steam generation, as you will need a lot of steam. You will also want to upgrade some of your steam machinery (boilers especially) into HP versions, as machines are costly, and circuits are pain (please don't repeat my mistakes and make at least batch of 16, you will run out in no time) Some of the most important LV upgrades are bending machine and lathe, as they allow making plates and rods without wasting material. Assembler will allow you to conserve tools and sometimes materials, and you will also face greg chemistry and your first real multiblock.
Bending machine, lathe, but most importantly A WIRE MILL. SOOOOOOO much materials savings in these 3 machines. Plates, rods, screws, wire... all for no tool cost and with the highest output ratios
drawer controller(pipe into this), a load of drawers, a key to lock items, stack and void upgrades Also works as a rudimentary sorting system so you can put armour straight into a machine or even smelter never played gregtech, no idea how expensive all of this is
You can use the Alloy smelter to make oven bricks, you can get rubber dust from the sticky resin, you can put the steel powder in the smeltery and it's faster,
just to help out, you can upgrade tc tools with redstone in a crafting table 8 at a time, surrounding the tool in the center so you dont have to do it 50 times in the tinkers one
If you put a chest next to tinkers crafting station, it can take its inventory for crafts. I usually keep my tools and parts in that chest its like a mini ME system
You can also click on the header text in bookmarks tab It says (1/1)[some number] to split pinned recipes in seprate rows also you have multiple pages for bookmarks to stay organized you can navigate through them on the footer of the bookmarks tab
You can make another blast furnace that share the wall with your current one. That way you will have two of them and save from making 11 blocks for a second one
This is amazing and for some reason, your voice sometimes sounds like Stampy's voice... That could just be me but keep up the good (and arduous) work! You can get anything you dream of!
I vaugely recall eras where you could get more resources then you started with using tinker's exploits. Times when you got more lava then you used to melt it. Times where liquid seared stone poured over cobblestone melted into more seared then it took to make it. Or at least cost less than the brick block. I fully expect this pack to have found and removed every single one of them.
I only know this from speedrunning, but 1.7.10 has a strange bug where if you look at a bottom slab, it will make all top slabs temporarily have the hitbox of the bottom slab until you look away, its allowing the baby mobs through, just replace that bottom slab next to your mob farm with a stair and you should be all good
But u could use stickreed (sticky resin) in steam extractor to get raw rubber... 3 per 1 rubber ball AFAIK. WhAt of an XP LOSS... Also, you can put items into GT item pipes (from tin for example) using hoppers, this could give you an idea about automatic forestry table filling using hopper under XP tank. Also you can smelt multiples of cobblestone by melting tinkers large plates (single contains 8 cobble to melt) btw, long way passed, you are trully impressive
you should make a chest next to your crafting table because as long as its the tinkers one you will have a side inventory panel where you can keep your gregtech crafting tools for easier crafting
7:02 There are numbers above recipes "(1/1) [16]". It's actually a button. Press left click and your saved recipes on current page will be sorted into lines. Each line will contain only one recipie. It's usefull if you have a list of different recipes
You can make the cobblestone generator much more efficient without using extra lava by just making 3 cobblestone generators directly next to one another and putting the lava in the middle generator, then put hoppers under all the cobble, then mine all 3 blocks (depending on how fast your pick is, you might only get 2 at a time)
Hey! just wanted to tell you about the redstone clock. when i set it to pulse every second, it stops in the middle of pouring from the smeltry. just so you know :) you should check it
Wouldn't it be better to create new steel ingots than turning steel dust into ingots, because if I remember you can melt dust in the smeltery. Also solar boiler efficiency can be reset by breaking and replaceing it, don't scrap your steam setup because it will be useful to generate early power
I'm not sure if Thais is true for GoG but in GTNH crops are more efficient if they haver 3 blocos of dirty underneath and then the special block (in your case skeleton skulls). When you haver LV power you should take a look at crop manager it'll handle watering, harvesting and all for you
Day 5 of asking @gardenofgrind at the end of the series could your enormous gigantic mega base take up a 63by63 region files and it has outside and inside decoration such as houses, pathways/streets, signs, parks ETC...?
I have already expanded it to what I feel is enough, my plan isn’t to use them forever. It’s far to tedious, a better mob farm will generate enough(way more, automatically via testing) Just need that vacuum hopper
Next time you use steel in the smeltry you should smelt down the steel dust instead of wasting already cooked steel. I cringed watching you use all of that cooked steel instead of your much more plentiful dust
