Thanks so much for showing this! We had looked into 3D scanning a few years ago and even picked up a handheld one that is not as accurate as I would like. The one I have been eyeing is over 5k and now I see that this Creality one is much cheaper and more accurate! Wow tech has come a long way in 3 years. I liked how you showed how to merge the top and the bottom together. That had been another wonder of mine for those really detailed objects that need the bottom scanned. Would love to see more content like this down the road if you have the time. My hubby sculpts in polymer clay, and I have been wanting to incorporate 3D scanning to make characters that we can animate in UE. Anyways, you rock as always Winbush!

Glad you enjoyed it! It's definitely come a long way the first one I had about a year or 2 ago was ok but wasn't able to scan a lot of what I wanted but the creality scanners seemed to have improved and get pretty good results. This one is about 1,500 USD I have a 10% off code in the description which should help bring the cost down but which scanner did you look at that was about 5k?

@@JonathanWinbush We were looking at the Einscan H handheld scanner. Looking at its product page, it says it is the same accuracy, but it does not have the laser light like the Creality one. We bought the XYZ Printing 3D Scanner Pro a couple of years ago and it was about $600, but the darn software was never very good, and the scanner is on a cable which made it impossible to scan anything with any accuracy. I have tried so many different photogrammetry solutions as well and know that for our workflow, a 3D scanner we use here would be better than the photo way. Although, I love all the upgrades that Reality Scan has made recently, so that might be worth another look into.

@@commontimeproductions I can definately put you in touch if you wanted to speak with someone directly there because I know they have printers too which I believe the scanners and printers are supposed to work well together. I'm not sure if you know EJ ( www.youtube.com/@eyedesyn ) but he's been into 3D printing a lot lately he said the one he has is really easy to work with.

Interesting video, I enjoyed it! I think for rough props at a distance this would be great. It’s affordable and usable, and you showed how it all works really well. I think for cinematics it isn’t detailed enough, but there are very few options that work flawlessly.
@JonathanWinbush
@JonathanWinbush 14 дней назад
Yup I think if you wanted to use it for an hero object up close at least for the textures it'd need touched up but I think the actual mesh for the most part is pretty good would just need some touch up in like ZBrush so smooth it out but I agree for props n such it'll work for sure

Is it usb operated or need power outlet, a bit confused. And, is software included, no fishy subscriptions, no extra montly/yearly milking fees, permanent license etc? (what a 💩time that I even need to ask that question....)
@JonathanWinbush
@JonathanWinbush 14 дней назад
@rendermanpro this one is outlet powered but the software is free funny enough no sign up needed at all 🤙🏾

Would be interesing to see not hard-to-scan objects but something like a shoe or a cap, how good detail it could catch (like a threads, textile structure etc). As well did you speed up processing? looks like working pretty fast!
@JonathanWinbush
@JonathanWinbush 13 дней назад
Yea I can test those out too. I didn't speed up at all usually I take the project to my desktop to do the procesing since my specs are way better than a laptop but the laptop is good for scanning and being mobile.

hwo much does it cost?, are there subscriptions?, can you get close in and far back to get more detail like for those buttons on the controller? is there a way to get more of the undercuts that were missing? i keep looking at scanner vids to see when this tech gets better. so far im not quite sold on it. seems like alot of cleaning is will be needed and results are not so easy to get to a level you would really say thats bulletproof. btw 3d coat is much better because of its voxel based real 3d workflow for cleaning up scans. you can also retopo and uv there and paint clean textures all in one program.
@nicksushkevich
@nicksushkevich 14 дней назад
basically you can scan with same results with Reality Capture or Polycam with iPhone and then use the result as a reference for NURBS or poly modelling.
@JonathanWinbush
@JonathanWinbush 14 дней назад
This is their higher end one so about 1,500 USD, as for the results I've had this for a few months and the quality has been getting better through firmware and software updates so I know they've been actively working on it

So, no loop handle with a hole for fingers or a simple proper handle like on video camera rigs? They propose to hold it like a brick? 🤦 What a "wonderful" design, that's so easy to make it right....omg....
@JonathanWinbush
@JonathanWinbush 14 дней назад
There is a hole if you wanted to put it on like a stand or put your own attachment on it but yea for the most part you'd hold like I did in the video

sorry Winbush but It's far from professional standards. The scan quality is mediocre, and the texture quality is terrible. is good maybe for hobbyist. 🙌

I'm not in the 3D printer space at all but I see a lot of people using their scans for making accessories they can 3d print out like I saw someone make a charging station for his xbox controller using this which was kind of neat

If you scan it in laser mode and scan until it’s all green and the tracking didn’t get interrupted too many times you get really nice details and it’s very accurate. Less than 0.05mm deviation.
