Dozens of illegal vendors have set up shop selling merchandise, food and even alcohol in direct competition with licensed merchants along San Francisco's waterfront. Da Lin reports. (5-30-21)
If you want to report on “illegal” activities, maybe you should report on the public injections and the needles that’s left on the streets and BART seats , those are the real public safety issues
😆 right .. they’re all like booohooo my over priced mango slop drink won’t sell and I can’t pay someone minimum wage .. because they opened up a stall across the street
Illegal vendors are not the problem. The politicians and Illegal drugs on the streets are. Also all the countless drug dealers literally standing at corners selling drugs everyday with no one doing anything about it. Specially in the downtown area, mission, and tenderloin area.
Yeah those underaged kids need to stop buying alcohol at the wharf. Just go down to the tenderloin and get all the narcotics you want. Tax free, I might add.
I don't think the story was about the fun or not fun? it is showing the unfairness of paying businesses - if they don't want to help them, just say so and they can close up shop immediately and leave illegal street vendors up to it
I agree, we should also go after kids that illegally set up lemonade stands infront of their homes and mom’s selling stuff on Offerup and other apps. They arent paying taxes.
@@abelincoln4772 that’s a dumb analogy because selling from your own property is different from selling in a busy business area. Those vendors can set up in front of their homes and sell all they want. Where I live taco stands have to pay rent to the property owners to post up in front of their establishment.
Let the stores become street vendors. Best way to combat high rent is to leave the high rent stores vacant. The greedy landlords can then lower rent or starve.
No business license means it’s all probably an all cash businesses. In short, no taxes collected for the city. While regular business owners are paying out taxes, fees, health care for employees, higher rent, etc.
Lemme get this straight, these vendors are breaking multiple laws despite knowing that what they are doing is against the law and they've received warnings for yet they want to pass another regulation AKA law thinking they won't ignore that one? That's literally insane lol
@@cardellstewart9437 sooooooo if they seen it as an actual problem they would of kicked them out 😂😂 let’s worry about global warming and not littering instead of this like the world got bigger problems then this …
@@user-pj3ks7dq7e seems like you are the type of person who sympathizes with the wrong doers, even though their actions affect those are doing the right thing, you are by your comment you seem like the type of person who will say " the parent should of not had her kids outside playing" when some idiot criminal drives by shooting up shit, wrong is wrong i dont care how you slice it!!! that is part of the problem today people dont worry about the victim, and condone the violator actions, do you think its wrong for a woman who has just got raped or assulted to be blamed for it because of what she had on? UH??? or is that because of global warming or bigger problems in the world..
I don't think the people could be expected to have an issue. All I know is if I had a business that had been shutdown for a year and FINALLY got a chance to open and there was an illegal street vendor in front of my business .... there would be a problem!!!
OMG...! Does this really have to be explained? I really didn't think Fishermans Wharf could be made any more tacky, but leave it to our permanent visitors from down south to re-create, embrace and defend the kind of behavior that makes the countries they flee here from the way they are. Confounding.
Food poisoning, here we come ..... law suits galore.. refrigeration? Employees not washing their hands and where are the toilets??? Would not eat that food if they gave it to me. A good case of food poisoning will have it coming out both ends, in a hurry.
Lmao this is common place in LA and it's never been a problem. I've gotten food poisoning from actual restaurants in the city, never had a problem getting a hot dog or corn from a street vendor. Makes you wonder who the actual clean people are
I could be wrong, but I think they may be holding a drink from of the vendors lol. You can see a guy mixing a drink using the same cup that the couple is holding.
Once I got sick, food poisoning from that place in Cisco, with the underground food courts. Another time my spouse and I got sick the the Metro, restaurant in the Castro district. Restaurant bathrooms are disgusting, even in stores in Cisco, poop all over, and that was 27 years ago. Imagine now.
I'm tired of having to walk in the street because you can't get through on that sidewalk blocked off with illegal vendors. Why haven't they been kicked out?
You mean to tell me they're so many people out there spending their money and stimulating the economy that you can't fit on the sidewalk to pass the street vendors and not buy something?.... I wonder why they haven't been kicked out either hmm 😂
What illegal vendors? SB 946, pretty much legalized most of this activity statewide and prevented cities and counties from doing anything about it. People were either stupid or asleep at the switch when this passed, as it went through with overwhelming margins in both houses. I wonder if that woman who loves it so much, would love it if she had to compete with them?
I ate one of those hotdogs on Grant Ave from a street vendor one night in early 2020. Never again. I had diarrhea for two days after that. Besides stealing legal business from shop owners, you’re taking your chances buying from those street vendors.
Shop owners who cant compete w street vendors should not be in business.. Tummy ache fr street vendors are rare, ppl get those fr restaurant too.. Lets help out hardworking ppl who dont take free gov aid, nor turn to crimes, nor become homeless addicts.. 👍
@@RedHanded1969 legal shop owners who pay for permits and taxes shouldn’t have to compete with vendors selling stale food . Lots of people are hardworking. Get over the pc bs. 👍🏼
@@RedHanded1969 nope. My family are immigrants and helped build SF in the early 1900s. My grandfather sold fish off the boat when he first got here. But legally. Not on the sneak. Because he respected and obeyed the laws of his new country that let him enter. Immigration is nothing new, son. I didn’t speak English until I was 5. I was an employer who supported 50 Hispanic employees for over 35 years, including paying for a few to get their green card and bailing them out of jail when they got in trouble. I even paid for a few to take night school language classes. So you’re clearly barking at the wrong tree with that story line. What’s going on now in the city streets isn’t the same as it once was. Now the laws aren’t followed and people sneak around trying to evade them and not paying their share of taxes. They do that until they get caught red handed. Laws are there for a reason. If someone enters the country and evades the law,it is disrespectful. It also is indicative of being not so conscious of the gift that they have been given to be living in the USA. Not all, but from what I’ve experienced, many. It’s not appreciated like it once was by earlier immigrants. And you’re also incorrect about “believing the stories “. I don’t believe what the media tries to spin on anything. But I’m not going to try to change your mind. If you don’t want to be a part of the country that welcomes you, maybe you should get out. If you want to live in the city, it’s expensive. There are other options besides complaining and throwing your story line at it. That is just as much a lie as what you are calling lies. I’ll add.. my father worked and saved money until he could buy a restaurant. I know what bad food is. Many of those vendors are trying to make money. Understandable. But they don’t dispose of the food that goes bad,so they don’t lose money. They re-heat it and add lots of condiments to disquise that it’s spoiled food. I’ve seen them do it when they set up. You can easily see it’s not fresh. That is the problem. Poor sanitary procedure and health code violations. Those laws are to safeguard against that so people don’t get sick. Few,if any legal restaurants do that because they get inspected. When was the last time a street cart was inspected, unless they were being busted? On Grant Ave particularly, they sell it to the drunk kids late at night, when no one is around to see what’s going on. At fisherman’s wharf, they scurry away when they see law enforcement coming. Why is that? Not because the food is good or another spot is better. It’s because they are probably selling spoiled product and doing it illegally for cash. Learn to adapt and conform instead of being part of the bigger problem that has slowly caused SF to deteriorate. Maybe don’t be so sensitive and listen to people that are older, more experienced, and have been here longer than you have probably even been alive. What I’m saying isn’t hate. I’m not attacking immigrants,as you are assuming. I’m pointing out the downfall of how they’re going about some of this. What you are saying can be more accurately described as entitlement and hate, more than protecting legal immigrants. Work for it,sure. But do it legally. Good luck to you. With that attitude, you’ll need it. ✌️🤌🏼
@@Rikkcas You re not very honest about past immigration laws. Should ppl obey Chinese Exclusionary Act, housing Redlining & Operation Wetback ??? Even your senator legalised street vendors & city officials are changing outdated health code.
I love those vendors they sell food not drugs . They don't brake into your cars . They don't home invade your house . People do crazy shit when they need money . To me this isn't the problem .
Um...I think ur on the wrong thread. Who's stabbing people?? These dudes are selling hotdogs. U might feel like u been stabbed in the gut, but it'll pass 💩
So it’s ok to allow illegals to come into the country for free benefits, but ppl here selling stuff illegally to make ends meet is an issue. The world we live in😄
Many of these people selling the illegal goods are the same illegals who came into the country. It's pretty sad that they are allowed to get away with this activity. Make the vendors who are selling merchandise apply for a permit and regulate them to be sure they are selling authentic merchandise that hasn't been stolen. And shut down the vendors selling alcohol. It is illegal to sell alcohol without a proper license to do so and it is a crime to serve alcohol to minors.
At least this vendors aren’t stealing purses and carjacking . Let the vendors earn a few bucks and make it easier for them to get licenses . Big banks have every permit under the law and still screw people over
No. They're selling the purses and other merchandise that someone stole for them from a store. And those vendors who are selling alcohol without a license and selling it to minors are breaking the law and should be shut down and arrested.
First of all the area they are using as a farmers market comes with a fee . Secondly street vendors don’t make over 30k a year . Permits should be easily attainable let’s be a bit prudent and pursue the real criminals out there attacking the elderly n carjacking
Eh. I feel for the actual people that have to pay for all their licenses, just to be undercut by someone who didn't waste their money because of city bureaucracy.
Shop owners who cant compete w street vendors should not be in business.. Lets help out hardworking ppl who dont take free gov aid, nor turn to crimes, nor become homeless addicts.. 👍
Human nature enjoys open street markets . They are fun. And where ever I travel I search them out: Germany, Asia, India, Spain (too many times I have sseen the people chase the vendors away), etc...
Sounds like fun, I could buy a Gucci wallet, take some shots, have a Taco, more shots, have My Gucci wallet stolen, take a poop, pass out and wake up on the street like Everybody else
What about the store owner across the street paying rent, taxes, and complying with the law. Then these vendors set up in a prime location pay no rent, no taxes. Who has the advantage? Isn't this unfair? Why do we ignore this?
It's all about the money. Supply and demand. People want what they want for whatever reason or another and will always try to get what they want wether legal or illegal. If the people who are spending money spend more money at places like this than at the local businesses the people aren't wrong for it. The laws and businesses are wrong. That's how a society works. Otherwise we all just become animals at the watering hole. Money 🤑💰🏧🏦💳
Shop owners who cant compete w street vendors should not be in business.. And if you cant fight them, then join them.. It will help lower high rent too.. Lets help out hardworking ppl who dont take free gov aid, nor turn to crimes, nor become homeless addicts.. 👍 Go after their taxes n hygiene, not their livelihood..
They can’t compete because they can’t afford the selling price of their competitors. That’s the unfair advantage of not having to spend money on all of the other things that legal businesses have to spend their budget on.
Between this, the homeless, and the phenomenal amount of car break-ins it appears that San Francisco is lawless. Well I mean at least for the law breakers. The few law abiding people can shoulder all the burdens.
