The tip about drying the feral was very helpful for me. I’m a total beginner so when my brush suddenly got super wet 😢😮 I called this the mystery soak 😂. And I never thought to paint my coloring books 🎉! I just couldn’t get into color pencils because of the time it took!! Love this fun channel ❤❤❤❤

For those still afraid of using watercolour due to missing experience, here's another tip: you can switch to pencils after you reach a point where you can't improve the picture anymore with the watercolour alone. Each time you do, you'll notice you can get further with the watercolor alone. Realising this made me less afraid of trying watercolour.

Thankyou for the great tips. I love watercolouring more than using pencils etc. Love your shading tips which I stuggle a bit with, but learning 😊

You are so funny. I also like the hard edges and super granulation. I prefer to use a block because I don’t want to stretch the paper. I’ve also tested my brushes of same size and prefer the Black Velvet Silver brushes

Hahaha, thank you! 😄 When I first started with watercolor, I couldn't use the Sliver Black Velvet. It was too soft for me. But as I painted more, I started to get used to it.

Yup, waterbrushes keep flowing once going. It's like a fountain pen. They are designed like that. For more control, I use them often without filling them up, more like a regular brush, as their bristles are good for activating pencils and other wateractivated mediums.

This is great suggestion! I have a collection of water brushes that put down too much water for coloring books but the bristles are really nice. Now I can use them in my books. Thank you!

This video was sooo informative. I started coloring but wanted to mixed media color and learning for you do it in coloring 📚 was about watching alot of videos over the years but this is the most concise 1-stop shop video I've seen. Thanks for making it from my prior newbie colorist self to my now more seasoned (3yrs) coloring self.

nice video, but i have a question, I use cold press paper, and my colors always look like a dotty pattern from the texture while certain colors look smooth. Is this a problem with the brush, or paint? I'm really confused. In addition my paper never stays wet, always dries super quickly.
@callettestudio

Hi Jasmine, thank you for watching! So your paints are causing the dotty pattern on your cold press paper. Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with your paints! Some pigments tend to cluster together and cause watercolor granulation. The granulating paints, like the Ultramarines, the Cobalts, or earth tone colors, will add texture to your painting, which I love. The non-granulating colors, like the Phtalo and Pyrrol colors, will look smooth on your paper. Regarding paper, wood pulp/cellulose paper or partially cotton paper will dry quicker than 100% cotton paper. You can try to wet the back of the paper to extend it, but using 100% cotton paper will keep it wet longer than cellulose paper. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Use hot pressed watercolour paper. This has a smooth surface and you won't have that problem.
