Intriguing. I, and two out of three of our daughters, have aphantasia. I have a MS in information systems and worked successfully in IT for years. Love to read, have vivid, colorful dreams, but see no mental image behind my eyelids. For the past 20 years, I’ve been an artist. I sort of see but the images move in the back of my head.

This is all new to me, and I'm almost 60. I thought everyone was the same as me. I can't get any visual or sensory image from anything that is prompted. I first noticed this in kindergarten. The teacher asked us to bring in a beach towel and every day at a certain time, she would tell us to place it on the floor, lie down on our backs with our eyes closed, and picture ourselves at the beach describing all kinds of things for us to visualize. I thought the whole thing was ridiculous! I never could figure out what that was all about. I guess my classmates were having fun at the beach while I was stuck in that classroom on the cement floor. It sure makes me think now. The only time I can see things in my mind as clear as a visual image, is in a dreamstate. I can even control the dream. Perhaps this is why the notion of hypnotism baffles me. They ask you to picture something, giving suggestions and somehow these people fall under a spell. I was always skeptical of hypnotists. To me it looks like a big acting gig where everyone is in on the joke except for me. Great video! So much to think about now!

Well done. The full explanation and other details and conditions made it even more interesting. Also, both have nice voices to listen to.

Doesn't sound like the typical A.I. voice to me. But since you have all the facts, go ahead and have a chuckle. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@@lise4369 I'm pretty confident that it is AI, I'm not sure why the other commenter was being condescending about it though.

@fauxcuss2 little egos feel bigger when laughing at others. I've heard horrible A.I voices. A.I. or not, I find the voices more pleasant than older videos I've watched from this same channel. Thanks for the comment, though.

Maybe (just maybe) a group of people discovered that they were subject to hallucinations, and it occurred to them that other people might think this was a flaw. So…realizing that deflection is a handy defense, they came up with a fake condition called “aphantasia” so that people would think themselves inadequate, rather than consider that someone else might be faulty. And maybe (just maybe) a growing number of people who accept the Aphantasia diagnosis, are actually confused about the difference between “knowing and remembering” what something looks like with actually “seeing” it with their eyes closed. Maybe (just maybe) there’s a bunch of people who need to cut back on their meds. It’s just a thought. I get a lot of them…without any accompanying visuals. (Am I being facetious?)
