A few years ago I went on a quest to find a cheap solution to mounting a gopro to a fence for baseball. I ended up buying a small magic arm and using a phone mount I had laying around and it's worked for 2 years. Looks like Ulanzi made my exact setup but a little more robust. Question: I've been using a GoPro 7 to film baseball and just like you said, when you film from behind the backstop you end up having to crop in so much that the image turns to garbage. Another dad films with the the Hero 11 in 5.4K but his image quality isn't that much better after the crop.... I've had my eye on either a camcorder (Panasonic v870) or a Sony ZV-1 or ZV-1F. How does the ZV-1 handle filming for 2 hours in the heat? External power with a dummy battery i'm assuming but does 4k still work that long?
Hey man thanks for watching my video brother. Let's answer some questions here. 1. Zv1 vs zv1f - definitely Zv1 because of the zoom lens so you get the best image quality optically. You should be able to pick up a zv1 mark 1 cheaper now since mk2 is out. I don't recommend mk2. Both will not last 2 hours due to small battery and will likely overheat if you shoot 4k 30p. 2. GoPro 11 will last about 50 min shooting 5k 30p but can get pretty hot fast. I had my gp11 filming me on a tripod above the snow and it overheated In about 35min shooting 5k 60p. So take this with a grain of salt when it comes to thermo performance. 3. Camcorder - I don't have much experience with it since early 2000s but it is definitely made for long form content and can potentially be a great option for your needs. You need a camera that can shoot for long periods of time, don't overheat and have zooming capabilities while being compact enough.
