Graphics card trouble-shooting and repair makes a lot of other repair work seem easy by comparison. I'm always very impressed to see these types of repair videos, and it's very satisfying when someone is able to figure out the problems and get a damaged card up and running as good as new again ^_^

it;'s not even that the task are so hard (though they are) it's the shear scope of all the super microscopic components on a video card . there are jsut so many and if even one is faulty the card will not work.

What I really like about Sapphire is that even their relatively cheap "Pulse" branded cards are still very good quality. Nothing too fancy usually, but very good, especially relative to the price.

funny you say this. i've had three video cards , in 25+ years of building my PC's fail on me, Two were Sapphire. (the other was nvidia brand i can't even remeber the brand of because they are no longer around). that said the longest running GPU i've had is also a sapphire (radeon 5770 HD , which still works to this day).

Have a Pulse card (Vega56) myself since 4 1/4 years. The plastic shroud is a little sharp along the edges, the cooling fins a little skewed and the fans are more noisy on some RPMs than others. But it is very sturdy, the backplate is open over the GPU and the cooling fins, it came with 3 years of warranty and the fans are plugged in like an M.2 drive for easy cleaning of the cooler and replacement of fans. Among the competition it was the balanced card. Not the fastest, not the cheapest, but reasonably cool and quiet with it's full length cooler on a half-length circuit board. Would buy again.

Sapphire used to design the Reference PCBs for Radeon cards. The parent company of Sapphire brand (PCPartner) has been working closely with AMD for well over a decade, they were even responsible for assembling the interposer->GPU&HBMs dies for Fury and Vega chips.

It is counter measures against guarantee return scam. Scammer take a thin copper wire, put it under memory chip and fried it with 10V. Gpu and memory dead, money return. Due to miners and dishonest private resellers, this has become such a huge problem that shops often refuse warranty service to honest users of video cards.

and this is why to this day having built PC's now for 25+ years of my life, i will never use any kind of liquid cooling. just too much risk if something fails with a liquid cooling system.
@Kimtron142
@Kimtron142 Год назад
Only reason I'd shy away from liquid cooling is if the default cooler is already cooler than the liquid cooler, in terms of coolness and not cooling ability. Sapphire's nitro+ looks pretty cool and probably does well cooling the card, so I find no reason to liquid cool an already cool card, both cool and cool. You feel?
@alexandruilea915
@alexandruilea915 Год назад
@@Kimtron142 I think this card had water dip on it from a cpu block rather than the GPU water block itself. Also, water cooling a GPU with 300W or more energy consumption makes sens. I had both Sapphire Nitro+ and now own a Sapphire Toxic Extreme Liquid Cooled (both 6900XT) and let me tell you, you can't hear the liquid cooled one while gaming. In the same case the Nitro+ was not that hot but definitely louder while also cookie the SSD's and other nearby components. Now the Toxic has the Radiator at the top of the case pushing the warm air straight out of the case so now the CPU and all the nearby components are cooler as well. Of course the Toxic is much more expensive normally but I had a "unlucky happy" case when my Nitro+ fans failed and they couldn't fix it within 14 days so they game me the money back that I initially paid (about 1400 euros) and the Toxic dropped down in price to about 890 Euros. So I got a better GPU for less money. The 7900 XTX was just launched but the price for that one was about 1600 Euros and I didn't feel like the performance and noise was worth it (as the 7900 XTX were only air cooled at the time, not sure if water cooled ones came out by now).
@mddunlap03
@mddunlap03 Год назад
@alexandruilea915 ek had water blocks day one I belive for 7900xtx. The issue is most cards he fixes are air cooled ....they are so big they break the pcb. Cracked pcb has killed more 4090 already than liquid will in its whole lifespan

@custume
@custume Год назад
I share the same feelings, for me the air cooler do not spill liquid, do not break that fast, do not break the pump without you notice and we can use AC without drying the AIO's. Sure liquid is better for cooling relative to the size, but if cooling is the problem get a bigger cooler, get more fans, hell even add a table fan directly to the case of the computer, all of this is way better and the only problem is that you have to clean you computer from time to time because of dust. The liquid cooler have more maintenance, are more risky and cost more (more expensive overall, in time and price).

Interesting that I came across this video, I had a brand new Odroid H3 (mini-PC) die on first power up out of the box. I found an MPS2940A controller that let the smoke out and took out a very small trace. The only place I could find the chip was Aliexpress, so I ordered a few. @eidodk
@eidodk Год назад
@@hostile_1866 See That's the thing. Coil whine does not mean the unit is bad, it just means that the electricity you feed into the component vibrates the coils in a frequency that makes the component emit a sound. Coil whine from the GPU can be caused by the GPU, it can be caused by the PSU, or it can be caused by the cable and monitor you have connected to the GPU. The easiest way to not fix, but possibly remedy it, can be a slight undervolt or infact also a slight OVERvolt, just to clip the frequency that makes it whine. If you RMA'ed graphics cards for coil whine alone, you have been lucky, since almost no manufacturers accept coil whine alone as a failed unit.
@hostile_1866
@hostile_1866 Год назад
@@eidodk Hi. We have really good consumer rights in the UK. Sure a graphics card with coil whine isn't technically faulty in operation terms, but who wants to hear a loud buzzing when they are playing games? My pc is in a home cinema with Dolvy Atmos Surround sound. I want to like and appreciate quiet scenes in my cinematic games not feel like I'm at a factory. Coil whine with 40 series in particular is due to varying inductors manufacturers use. Ironically the cheaper 50a ones are less prone to whine than the 70a more expensive ones. PSU wise I know people that have been though 7+ and its made no difference also they have tried using a UPS to no effect. Now I have a silent 4090 Rog Strix into a silent PC build and I can't tell you how much more that's worth than a unit that constantly buzzes in my living room :). Since launch both MSI and ASUS have made internal revisions to reduce the effect, as I imagine the amount of units going back to retailers was crazy.
@eidodk
