17's or 20's in 1/4 mile is 3 to 5 seconds slower than my toyota mini van speed. 3100rpm at 60 is not too bad for a small engine. You are a very unique individual.

NICE!! That was bone stock back in 1985,.... as pictured above. it is a stroked small block that run 1/4 in the 11s. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Great series Brother. I've always been racking my brain over gear ratios and tire size. When racing my Mopars. I run them all from 340's to 440's and everything in between... 3.23 to 4.30's Never knew how to do the math, now I know thanks. MoPar or no car!

Couple things, Cars in the 60's and 70's can Factory with 4.10s next, as you use a shorter tire the length of your contact pact will be less as it gets shorter/ smaller. Wallace site uses the Math for Bias tires which change dia the faster you go and will not work with Radials they don't grow so the base math is different and inaccurate. Its Old math like a Morosos slide rule based off some Mopar Super Stock math. We run a lot of Drag Week style events, I suggest finding the finish line RPM you want and working your way backwards. Taller tires over like a 275 Radial will help a Ton.

Good points, mine are bias drag slicks. Don’t have the money for new gears so have to live with to low of rpm at the finish line. Thanks for sharing.

Does the circumference of the slick change? if only the radius to the ground changes, I am not sure if there is an effective gear ratio change. Dragsters make it look like there is a circumference change tho. Oy, my head aches.
@CudaFishEStories
@CudaFishEStories 4 месяца назад
Sorry i mist this one. From the center of the axle, to the ground has changed, as the slick gets smashed. It acts as if it was a smaller tire. this only affects the launch. it pops back up as the motion moves forward.........did that make sense?
@stuartwall8212
@stuartwall8212 4 месяца назад
@@CudaFishEStories I'm thinking one revolution on the axle = one revolution of the tire and the circumference does not change even though the radius to the ground changes. If the tire expands enough to make the circumference bigger, there is an effective gear change. BUT, you know whats cool? The # of subs here has doubled in a week. I think your videos are showing up in peoples feeds and getting watched. The content I have seen is worthy of it.

It all depends on stall. 2500 stall vs 4000 stall with 373 gears n 26 inch tires is gonna be very different rpms at 60mph
@CudaFishEStories
@CudaFishEStories 4 месяца назад
Agree but, with today converter technology……at light throttle a 4000rpm stall is fairly efficient.

@@CudaFishEStories if you had a bbc with 550hp at 6500 rpm n 525tq at 5000rpm going in a full street car, 71 nova, 26 inch tires, 373 gear, 350 turbo trying to run mid 11s what converter would you go with? Its gonna be mostly a cruiser/ something to have little fun in but when I get serious n race I'd be very happy if I can get close to that mid 11s

@@Megan24Nichole First off thanks for watching my video and posting up. It help me know what is of interested. 2nt, hold on to your hat because i'm not a short answer type of a guy ;-) OK, the first thing i would do is take it to the track "As Is". Makes some runs and get a basic idea how it runs and what ET/MPH it is capable. Will it hook off the line? What rpm, what gear are you in at the end of the 1/4 or 1/8 mile track, that your are running at. Does the carb leave the line smoothly, is the fuel pump, keeping the carb fed, up at the top end of the track? When you first mash the throttle, off the line.......what rpm does your tach read??? Is 6500 rpm the best point to shift???? will it run faster shifting it at say, 6300 rpm or streaching out to 66 or maybe 6700 rpm. last but not least, what rpm does your engine/Cam come on. aka when does the engine come alive and start pulling. This can be done on the street. Mash the go peddle on a freeway on ramp............ a cop can't give you a "exhibition of speed "ticket if your just trying to excelerate and merge with traffic. 🙂 Now Obviously, this isn't going to happen in just one day at the race track. Which is Great! have fun and injoy your ride! When you have tuned that combo to your liking..........Go back and look at all you ET slip, and all the improvment. Once you have all of this info then i could give you a recommendation of what converter to buy.........But By giving the person building your Custom Torque Converter all this info. You will get the right converter the first time. They are to expencive to buy it two to 3 time to get what you want. P.S. the converter guy will need to know how much the car weights as well. That Nova sounds like a lot of fun!!!! INJOY YOUR RIDE EVERY STEP OF THE WAY!

@@CudaFishEStories yea my previous motor had 2500 stall so but this is whole new engine n didn't really want to change stalls down the road. Was hoping to kill 2 birds 1 stone lol. But I have thought bout just running 2500 for nova n do what you said n go from there. But iv also thought bout purchasing 3800 stall n sending it. Haven't made my mind up yet lol

@@Megan24Nichole just keep this in mind, if your old eng made more Torque at 2500 rpm, then this new motor. The new motor will stall less. On the other hand if this motor make more torque at 2500 it may stall more!......aka like going from a small block to a big block, the big block will generally make more torque at 2500 streaching the the torque converter to a higher stall. Thats why, in the day, the hot ticket, was to put a 4 cyl vega torque converter into a V8 aka cheap high stall converter. If you have a dyno sheet of your new engine and know the gear ratio, tire height and weight of your car. A custom T/Q company can get it close.....enough. ;-)

Old equation for lifted trucks with bigger tires seems very close to your math. Simply take your new tire diameter and multiply by .12 36 x .12 = 4.32. So go with 4.33 if available or 4.56. Still valid today? I don't see why not. Like I said, old school math. 👍

Shift point is 6000 RPM. What gears in quarter? You gear so hitting 6000 in high gear at finish line. 1/8 mile you hit 6000 rpm in high gear at finish line. 100 yard dirt drags, you hit 6000 rpm in high gear at finish line. Trial and error, sure, but accurate. Don't have to be a math expert.
