If you watch the Olympics. There are activities going on, on the infield while there are runners on the track. Some of the races are very long, so you can't stop all other events, or it would take too long.

I watched a Carolina Hurricanes game last year where Cam Ward (the goalie) went around the back of the net to stop a dump-in, and the puck disappeared. The refs didn't immediately blow it dead, and Cam saw players coming to the net, so he went back around to the front and immediately went into his butterfly. After blowing it dead, they found the puck caught in the bottom of his skate, and when they reviewed the play, they found that when he went into the butterfly, his skate was in the net. The goal counted.

4:06 That actually happened to me once!! It wasn't a 300 game (not by a long shot), but I lined up a perfect shot, beautiful curve, making a bee-line between the 1 & 3, and right when it was about to hit... BAM! Down comes the guard! But then the lights went out on the lane and it was clearly because of a malfunction, BUT STILL! It was... PERFECT! but I got denied! I'm still really salty about it even to this day, but I can kinda laugh about it cuz it was a lane malfunction, BUT STILL!!! But it was because it randomly broke, BUT STILL!!!!

Jochen I saw where the balls were lying. I don't care if it was the world championships or two guys playing for a beer, too much force on the object ball can result in a pocket ejection and is unnecessary for placement of the cue ball for the next shot. The angle he had made it harder to achieve position for the next shot, but hitting the object ball so hard it can pop out of the pocket means you hit it too hard. Been there, done that myself and learned the lesson.

I agree. The 8 ball pool ones I don’t feel bad for, because they simply hit it too hard. They had control of the situation. It’s not like the sledder getting screwed by the broom, or the runner getting screwed by the rope which were very unlucky and completely out of their control.

Inspired by a post on reddit: I'd like to see a comp of offensive linemen scoring TD's. Fumble recoveries, trick plays, designed runs, any kind, as long as an OL gets into the endzone with the ball.

I can't remember the game, but there was a hail mary play from around the 35 yard line. All the fast guys are down the other end of the field when the fumble happens. It's picked up by a defensive tackle, and what follows is the slowest 30-yard sprint you've ever seen, as the fatties chase each other into the endzone. The DT is so confused by scoring the touchdown, he doesn't even know what to do with the ball - a celebratory spike? hand it back to the refs? hold onto it for later?

I'd love to see that too. Still remember the 2006 AFC Championship with two offensive linemen scoring TDs on fumble recoveries and a defensive tackle playing at fullback also scoring a TD.

The bowling one was like Hal on Malcolm in the Middle losing his 300 game because Malcolm shirt got caught in the pin resetter and he fell onto the pins just as Hal's 12th ball was about the hit. And Hal didn't get a do over!

I feel for the guy going for the 300 game. I had just thrown the 11th strike and it was announced that I had bowled a 300. On the next shot I left a 7 pin (I'm a lefty) for a 299. The guy who made the premature announcement felt really bad and later gave me a pin to remember the occasion. Thankfully I got my 300 game a few years later.

but part of the shot is the placement of the cue ball, which sometimes means you need to strike harder to get a better angle at the next ball

Sometimes you have to stroke the shot hard to get the cue ball to do what you want it to do to get shape on the 9 ball. It was a unlucky bounce out of the pocket. It rarely happens but it happens at times.

I saw an interview with the bowler. He said he was disappointed at what happened but he had already bowled 21 300 games before this incident. That is a crazy amount of perfect games.

I'm inclined to think that the first pool shot should still count as pocketing the ball. The bottom of the pocket is not part of the table; if it had been on a table where the balls were returned on rails, that wouldn't have happened.

The first 8 ball jumping out was a little bit on the player. No need to hit it that hard to set up the 9 ball shot. And a lot can happen when you hit a ball that close to the pocket that hard. It could bounce back off the back of the cup much more easily than going down and back up. That was a case of someone trying to win with authority and screwing themselves over.

The cue ball was on the other side of the table by the time the 8 ball had jumped out of the pocket and did its little spin. In fact if you look closely it had finally stopped shortly after they changed the camera angle.

@@bsherder It's 9 ball. But lets just say it was 8 ball, then yes in my opinion he's being a bit of a dick to his opponent by smashing it into the pocket. Regardless I still hate plastic pool pockets, bad noise, cheap feel, leaves black marks on balls, and of course jumping out!
