LYRICS:
Counting the fluttering memories Lovingly, blood stains her lips as she sings of her regrets.
A young girl chose to fight, no one to pick up the bones she threw away in her determination
Through long winters and endless nights
And in time you will know the only truth
The deep scars carved on the corpse of a distant past that I cannot forget, though I endure
the white arm left behind by a joke, stained redder than the karma of that flower...
The time of awakening, when we gather to be drawn to each other, remembering with madness the time that has stopped.
The little girl only wanted to wait, as if she were the law of the blind.
Through long winters and endless nights
And in time you will know the only truth
A capricious scourge shakes the clouds, the nameless cry of an unknown roar.
The unvoiced cries of those whose hearts are divided by the same wound, wetting their cheeks
Wiping away the distorted view again and again, the light in her eyes makes my heart flutter
The little girl chose to fight, with determination and hope by her side
Waiting for the late spring to bloom, even if your love never blooms and rots
In time, you will know the only answer
"You cannot turn around" on this road.
"Do not be deceived until you have passed through."
"Do not let your sins be forgotten"
"Do not let it end" "until you are judged."
Hurt my pride! Stab my back! Because I carry a wound that cannot be erased
Over drive! Stand your life! If I can get closer by fighting back
Heaven’s Door! Stop my grudge! If we hold on to the clue
Over drive! Stand my life! To an abyss where there is no rest
Through long winters and nights, when endless time comes to an end
You'll have made it to the end of time, and you'll be gone with a smile on your face.26
If you've fulfilled this wish, if you've watched my back
The cherry blossoms are calling me to the place where I belong
Translated by Xy via lyricstranslat...

UM is epic! I recommend《phantom blood》live as the next!🤘🏻🔥

As to why UM decided to put this story into song, there are several contexts involved. First, almost all of the early UM (2008-2014) songs, including this song, are arrangements of music from a game called 東方(Touhou). The Touhou series is a popular self-published shooting game whose characters and music have become very popular, leading to the creation of many fanarts. In particular, Touhou arrangements, along with Vocaloid songs, have established a major genre of self-published music on the Japanese Internet and a wide variety of music has developed. Another major reason for the development of the genre was that ZUN, the creator of Touhou, is quite lenient on copyright, which is very rare in Japan. The original music of this song is "Yugani ni Sakase, Sumizome no Sakura - Border of Life"(幽雅に咲かせ、墨染の桜 ~ Border of Life) which is the music of the last boss of "Touhou Youyoumu - Perfect Cherry Blossom" (東方妖々夢 ~ Perfect Cherry Blossom), one of many Touhou works. This song is very popular. In addition, the scene in which this music is played is one of the most popular and beautiful scenes in the entire series. So it makes sense that the arrangement was made as early as 2010.

Vocalist FUKI is noted for her insanely wide vibrato, a characteristic of Japanese traditional and popular music. It is notablyemployed in ENKA, a genre of sentimental pop combining Western instruments and Japanese melodies that became popular after WWII and thrives today. Often focusing on themes of romantic longing and heartbreak, it is something like the Japanese equivalent of Honky Tonk and Country music. I encourage you to explore the countless videos of Enka recordings and performances available on RU-vid

Nicely noted. Fuki's control over her vibrato is amazing. She can do everything from straight tone, tight vibrato, wide vibrato, extra-wide vibrato, and even uses some Shigin style effects at times, with the note slides between quarter-tones. There is a reason why Fuki is one of the most requested for collab vocalists in Japan.

Sounds interesting. I (Itai) think I get an idea of what you're referring to, which is something I also hear with the vocals for Wagakki Band. It is pretty awesome and when done this well, gives me goosebumps when listening to UM and WB. Fantastic stuff, which also makes both bands almost instantly recognisable. Thank you for taking the time to view and engage, Greg! Much appreciated! 🙏

A vocalist who has greatly influenced Fuki is 黒猫(kuroneko), singer of the metal band 陰陽座(onmyouza). Fuki also says that 瞬火(matatabi) from 陰陽座 influenced her lyrics. While the music of 陰陽座 shares similarities with Western metal, their lyrics are unique, based on the folklore of real Japanese youkais (Japanese spirits or fairy-like beings). The lyrics are written entirely in Japanese with no English, and they often use archaic language. Their outfits are also inspired by traditional Japanese clothing. Also it's nice that they have both male and female lead vocals. "「茨木童子(Ibaraki Doji)」(MV)" by 陰陽座 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NFWZm7qdCrc.html As for enka, Marty Friedman is known to have incorporated it into his guitar technique before Megadeth. When he was in Hawaii, he was interested in Japanese music because Hawaii is a place where many people of Japanese descent live. He was particularly influenced by enka, but his bandmates at the time looked at him with a blank stare. Ten years later he joined Megadeth and became a key figure in the band's heyday. It's absolutely true that translating from Japanese to English is very challenging. Japanese and English are extremely different languages, and Japan is often referred to as one of the most high-context cultures. That's why translations by foreigners or outsiders who think they understand the context often don't work well. As a creator, it's painful to see their works being misunderstood and misinterpreted abroad. Often translations are highly valued, and the occasional voice that points out errors is silenced. So, supported by consumers, translators increasingly mistakenly believe they are doing the right job and lose the opportunity for reflection. One way to avoid such tragedies is to make everything in English like lovebites. But no matter what the Japanese music is, the Japanese context is relevant. In addition, there are still various contexts that need to be understood in order to decipher related information, such as the musicians' statements.

We have now covered a couple of Onmyo-Za songs, so we know what you mean. Also, we definitely are experiencing the difficulty that comes with trying to interpret Japanese lyrics translated into English. When it seems unclear, we just apologize and leave it alone as far as commenting on the show, and when we get some idea of meaning, we discuss it. However, we are entirely aware that we could be completely wrong in our interpretation due to this factor. We do our best, though, as we feel the songs and artists deserve that kind of respect. It has definitely been interesting thus far. Thank you for taking the time to view and engage. Much appreciated! 🙏

It has now been well over 3 years since I started my deep dive into Japanese rock/metal. I have a very clear top 3 bands - Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. I also have a very clear next 3 - Unlucky Morpheus, Gacharic Spin and Asterism. Of all the Japanese vocalists that I have heard, Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus is my favorite. Normally I gravitate toward vocalists that have a lot of grit in their voice (Lzzy Hale), but I was instantly enamored with Fuki's combination of belting and vibrato. Fuki, at almost 37, is now an old pro. She started with a power metal band called Light Bringer in 2005 at age 18/19. The band that would become Unlucky Morpheus formed in 2008. Light Bringer ended in 2014, so for six years Fuki split time between the two bands. She also had her own solo project after Light Bringer ended, plus she joined with the core four (Koga, Hana, Tomo-zo and Reona) of Gacharic Spin to form a band called Doll$Boxx. Quite a career already and she still has many great years ahead of her

Yes, Fuki is quite the versatile and active vocalist. As you know by now, we have since covered her work on many of the abovementioned bands' works. It is taking us way too long to catch up on responding to comments, it seems. Lol. Thanks again for viewing and engaging and for all your support of our channel, Dan! We truly appreciate you! 🙏

Fuki, who by the way is untrained, picked up the style of singing off her mother. It comes from Kabuki, which is a classical form of Japanese theater. There is another Japanese band with someone that sings in the same style, but they are not so heavy, so if you'd like a mix of traditional Japanese + rock music try, Wagakki Band - 焔 (Homura) + 暁ノ糸 (Akatsuki no Ito) / 1st JAPAN Tour 2015 Hibiya Yagai Ongakudo ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ponTbDDMYjw.html Also Fuki writes most of the lyrics, and she is very versed in Japanese, better than most Japanese people. So she has the habit of putting in words that can mean 2 different thing, or use words that a lot of Japanese people have forgotten. Which makes the translation of Unlucky Morpheus songs a bit more trickier than normal translations. Take Black Pentagram, there used to be maybe 5 or 6 different translations of the song, not by much, but it changed the feel of the song, but then Fuki did the translation her self, not only to correct people, but so she could practice English. They did release a song called 瀧夜叉姫 (Princess Takiyasha) which was written is an old classical Japanese style, it had to have Japanese people, translate it for Japanese people, and that was a real headache for anyone who translated it in to English. Seeing as you like the violin, next you have to try 【Live Cover】Eruption(Van Halen) ~ The Dance of Eternity(Dream Theater) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XC2A1hbuLmI.html If you think you've seen Jill play fast, this has her playing at almost the fastest, the fastest is not on video. This video is done by "QUADRATUM From Unlucky Morpheus" who is 4 members of the band 1 guitar, bass drums and violin. A couple years ago, they released an album of covers, of classic rock/metal, ones that people do not really cover.

Perfect reactors for me. You have great respect for both music and your subscribers. I knew what to expect after seeing your reaction to Black Pentagram. Like Lovebites, UM is always better live. As much as you seem to appreciate *Jill* (violin) - *you ain't seen nothin' yet* . There is a UM side-project called Quadratum, comprised of *Jill*, *Jinya* (guitarist who soloed with her), *Ogawa* (bass), and *Fumiya* (drums). They did a CD of violin covers of classic Rock and Metal songs. *Yngwie's* _Far Beyond the Sun_ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E2hZDzJp9Pc.html ; a LIVE version of Dream Theater's The Dance of Eternity (with the Van Halen Eruption solo, done by Jill, as the opener ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XC2A1hbuLmI.html .
