Dude was patient enough to play the first three games for free pretty much after being promised six figures. You’re right, this could go extremely well or extremely bad for each party. But don’t promise the money if you can’t follow through.

Just the tip of the ice berg. Paying these players straight cash in recruitment is going to open a lot of doors with problems. Jealousy, playing time, pressure from fans, harrassment for underperformed, etc.

Everyone in every profession gets paid in "straight cash". It might be a check and paid monthly, it's still "straight cash". That's the way the NFL does it, why wouldn't college do it the same way? They are. None are giving a 17 year old one check for $1,000,000, when they sign their agreement to play for a college.

This is a prime example ( at least to me) that we going to need start doing contracts to avoid messy situations like this. Also for anyone who going to try and slander the guy saying he have no love for the game and so on let me ask you this. If you’re working for a job, you get your paycheck, and it’s less what you’re suppose to get are you just going to sit there and accept that? I would think not, so I can’t fault Sluka for deciding to not play for not getting the money that was promised to him. Of course that’s under the assumption what he’s saying is true. If later we learn otherwise that he’s certainly the bad guy in this situation for lying.

The recourse for this kind of alleged bait and switch is to withhold continued specific performance and leave. If he was promised the money, they team will simply have to understand his walking away. Nobody likes being suckered.

Simple fix here, TRADITION IS OVER in college football, bring in contracts, hopefully there can be penalties for transferring, and both sides will honor said contract, amateurism is not here, let’s stop kidding ourselves already 😂… on that note, yeah I’m happy these guys are getting paid, but wow this game is a circus show

This is on Ncaa and the player when the NIL deal is a thing they should have all schools have a contract and signing for the agreement with a deal of the players. A real business like the NFL have contracts for players to sign or not sign for the agreement on the deal before the players play not by words. Anyone can say here’s a $100,000 if you come team up but it’s not guaranteed because its words. Also the lack of common sense of the UNLV player and parents on going by the words of the staff members promising of money by no documents forms or contracts of being legit.

Unlv fam here. I think Sluka had a chance to be good here but i mean he has for 300 pass yards through 3 games. That just wasnt going to get it done. On the other hand I hate to see a deal not be honored. Tough pill to swallow but i believe in Barry Odom and he will have this team prepared with whoever he has available. Players have all the leveraging over their teams. Some of these athletes are basically extorting their team for more money. I HAVE AN EASY FIX. The schools should be able to fire (pull scholarship/cut off NIL collective payments) players for not performing.

I’d leave too if I were him….doesnt change the fact that Matt Sluka and his “camp” were idiots for not getting a contract written up beforehand. Thats business 101 and they failed. He’ll learn from it. But there needs to be NIL departments at every D1 school in the country that are directly connected to law firms so these situations don’t occur again. Let this be a lesson to Sluka- If you don' t have a deal in writing, then you don't have a deal. Also, it helps to actually be good. A QB with only 43% completion rate and avg 106 passing yards per game? And he wants 100K? Booster probably saw his performance and suddenly forgot about the "verbal contract", if there ever was one.
