Jens is such a sorted guy....so spontaneous, clear and frank in answering every question Benji threw at him. He obviously has this project’s ambitions and strategies well established in his mind and, given ongoing sponsorship and leadership judgement, you’d have to bet on Uno-X success in the coming years. Good luck guys. 🤞
Great interview. I think it was important that people hear that no one in Uno-X are celebrating the demise of B&B, even though it opens up new opportunities. Let's hope Kristoff and Tiller keep performing at a high level and that the Johannessens aren't hindered by health issues.
I'm a big fan of Kristoff and I think it's in the best interest of A.S.O. having a former winner of first and last stages of the Tour at the starting line. It is nice Jens Haugland has mentioned Raul, who did a great job with the articles about the relegation battle. Check out LR's homepage if you haven't already!
Super interview! The respect between them is evident. Well done, Benji! Jens is a great guest to interview. I've been a fan of Uno-X for sometime, and this interview reinforces that. Last year's was well done, too. I'll look forward to next year's! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Jens. Can we start the season now??
Rewatched this episode, it's a very interesting one! And it's a bit sad that Jens is out, started missing now. Would you please do an episode with Hushovd where you talk about many of these topics?
Great interview! Any chance you will make an episode on the cyclocross battles between MvdP, WvA and Pidcock? Some epic races going on there, especially the one in Diegem this week
Great interview Benji, good insight. Based on the theory that TT is a good indicator for GC potential (like I heard from some TJV sporting directors say) really curious what the future of Wærenskjold will be. Will he stay after 2023?
There are some time trialists who can climb well enough to be GC riders, but most can't. It's one indicator, not the only one. Wærenskjold is huge. At 191 cm, with that body type, with his history of getting dropped on every mountain in his career, there's no basis to expect him to be a GC rider. He is very promising in one-day races though. He rode well in the cobbled classics early in the year (top 10 in Bredene-Koksijde Classic and U23 Gent-Wevelgem). Him beating Mihkels and Kooij in the sprint in the U23 WC was extremely impressive, too!
Valid arguments, didn't notice him before World Championships so wasn't aware of his climbing record. Van Aert is about as long, good in TT and decent on the climbs to say the least. So length isn't that decisive a factor for me (GC is more than Pogacar and the big 3 week tours etc). But to have that potential might be a big ask then. He is one I'll be watching in 2023 for sure.
While it’s not the best news. I’m glad people within womens cycling are saying rather than going big right now. They are developing the sport and thing long term rather than having teams go bust consistently.
Great interview, Benji - I suspect the UCI points will continue to lower the quality of races, outside of the biggest events, as well as over-racing riders in the peleton.
