Unpacking more boxes and sorting out random boxes of stuff on our minimalist journey. But when I'm done unpacking and decluttering, life feels simple again. Simple living is intentional and purposeful but we still live among boxes in our house. We have 65(ish) boxes left to unpack and decide what to keep, what to donate, what to sell, what and how to declutter.

I giggled at your 9 year old box. My dad was in the Australian Airforce. His last posting was 1971 when he left for civilian life. Before that they has moved 7 times in 6 years. Dad died in 2008 and Mum in 2011. I unpacked tea chests and boxes that my mother had refused to unpack since 1971. I found engagement and wedding presents from 1965 still with their original wrapping paper and cards as well as Mum's maternity clothes from 1969, Dad's Airforce trunk and all his uniforms were there and assorted items from my parents' childhoods.

Good on you for being at different decluttering levels than your hubby and still being patient encouraging and understanding. It can be hard to do when it can seem like going backwards in progress at times. 💖💖💖 Ive definitely learnt a thing or two from your grace at dealing with decluttering with others who arent necessarily at the same pace. 😊😊😊 & well done andy for being open and receptive to you & not getting defensive etc when decluttering. 🕊🕊🕊

For the boxes you want to repack and keep, you should look into Outlinx Smart Stickers. Gives you a QR code you put on the box and then, in the app, can list all the contents of that box.

Woo Hoo - one box decluttered is always a good thing - better to handle in smaller "bites" than trying to do all at once. You turn around and now you have a huge pile to pack away or now pack for donation that feels overwhelming. Reuse bins as I downsize..donate a bin with items that the store or truck can reuse for their needs. I love how excited the kids were about the books - excellent! The married mommy shoes - ADORABLE!!! Happy Monday!

You can get rid of lots of books and get a library card, kids normally like going to the library👍🏻

@@monamorgan8614 I happen to have been a children’s librarian in a public library. No, the library is not a reliable option right now for print books. I worked in libraries with healthy budgets and libraries with skeleton budgets. I never was able to own enough or have enough space for easy readers and beginning chapter books. Given covid is making collections inaccessible with the quarantine process and lack of the ability to browse properly with three kids I’d keep the full box of books. Readers can be completed in a single setting. Which means they go through dozens per week. Some families would come weekly and max out the borrowing limit were the picture book and easy reader families. They are also at the age where they get hooked on series. You need a lot of books a night to read that 20 minutes a day. Look at dad’s man cave book box. They should have 2 big bins of books. In the near future I would not be surprised if it was all electronic book subscriptions. Doctor’s until 8 months suggested only a few hours in front of a screen. Now they want a 7 hour school day? For now the plastic bin full of books is a good idea.

There will be some books that you and your children will want on the shelf all the time and others that you can rotate in and out every couple of months to keep things fresh. There will also be some that fit with different seasons or topics that you might be covering at different times so those don’t need to be out on the shelf all the time either.

Progress! I love your end goal of repackkng and labeling the must keeps. I have worked and reworked my totes and it is amazing how easy to find stuff. I’ve also started taking pictures and storing in a digital folder with number of tote. That really helps remind me what I have. Love you guys!

If you tape labels remember to put a box number on the box with a permanent marker(all 4 sides of box) and save a printed complete list in your keep box. Taped on or labeled on lists tend to fall off or get damaged.

Rocksmith works on PC. You can download it off steam, you just need the cord to connect the guitar to the computer. You can also download extra songs.

Excellent job!! Yes -- another vote to re-pack and sort items into plastic storage bins!! Another vote for clearly labelling all of the boxes and to DATE the boxes too! Can't manage without my Brother P-touch Label maker! Check out the plastic shelving from Costco - works well to keep boxes of all kinds off the floor! Can't wait for Andy to set up his brewing!

Love the "L" glasses. My parents had "O" glasses that came out for special occasions (our last name was Orlando). Makes me wonder where they are now🙂 I have to say I am continually surprised that you still find boxes that haven't been opened in years! I guess it's been a busy span of 3 kids and many moves but it's still surprising! You're making great progress, keep it up!

It is really so hard. We have been slowly chipping away at boxes that have been packed for almost 4 years. We cleared a whole room last weekend that is eventually going to be my studio/craft room, but we needed a second guest room as we had multiple family members coming to stay (nothing like a deadline to help get your butt into gear). We didn’t get through all the boxes at the time, but finished them off this past weekend, except for one that belongs to one of our boys. As well as moving boxes, the room had become a dumping ground for whenever another room upstairs was decluttered (usually my boys) and they sent their unwanted clothes and junk into limbo in MY craft room. I reminded them every day for a week that d-day was looming for getting the room cleaned out and they seemed on board. However on the morning we were to start they both found excuses to procrastinate and dawdle so we got a bit cranky and they ended up doing a great job (as I say this, you probably think they are children... oh no, they are 19 and 21 with responsible jobs and study who have been well versed in household tasks/chores which they are still expected to assist with whilst living under our roof). 6 giant bags of clothing plus 4 boxes of stuff/books donated, a mountain of cardboard recycled, a couple of big bags of trash and multiple items listed for sale = one very tidy and comfortable extra guest room and a huge step closer to having our home clutter free. Hopefully one day soon we will get to the “box room” which is pretty full of STUFF. That room was originally a formal dining room, but will become a formal living room when we eventually clear it out. Having rooms we only use for storage makes us realise that our house is way too big for us - I think we partially bought it to fit our stuff, rather than getting rid of stuff and buying a house that fit our family. We are committed now to completing our renovations while the boys are here saving money and look forward to downsizing big time in a few years.

Hi Erica! I have a hard time getting rid of kids books too (and my kids are young adults now)! Also, I have the same wine glasses that Andy has- from so long ago lol. And I don’t drink wine! I am moving in 2 weeks and you have been an inspiration to me. I am coming around to minimalish now and starting to get rid of things. I find I have a lot of sentimental and paper- ugh so hard. I’m also trying to budget to get out of debt so I can see how budgeting and decluttering go hand in hand. I am hoping to get better in time with my stuff. Thank you for all the information very helpful.

yay more unpacking boxes! I have to ask though, if you haven't needed those things in 9 years, do you need them now? Or if its just because they are sentimental items, maybe switch them out for things you're currently using. Such as the L glasses, maybe only keep them if you switch them for some other glasses you're currently using, rather than adding more glasses to your inventory. As an example. You've come so far in getting down to what you need and love.

I keep all the kids book as well. I love books and some you can’t buy new nowadays... For myself I only keep the books I know I will reread, but my shelves are full now so I think I need to declutter 😬🤫

I have a hard time decluttering kids' books too. I rotate them every 2 months to keep the number manageable...but that means there are 5 boxes in the basement at all times :(

I used a notebook and wrote down everything I had in each box and numbered the boxes. So at the new house I knew which was in each box. Granted you didn’t pack everything but now that you are repacking you could do that. Thanks for sharing and good luck unpacking.

While moving many times while active duty and needing to store with quick access I used this method. I numbered the bins after writing a detailed list of contents on a file card, the file cards were kept in a file box, made it so easy to locate items.

I find it hard to get rid of kids books too and my kids r 24, 21 and 14. I've always had bookcases full of books and read to my kids daily when they were little. I heard if u did this your kids would grow up to have a love for reading books. Now my oldest only reads D and D books and my 2 others r dyslexic and don't like reading. Oh well :(

Ps .... been thinking about using EverNote app to create a database of my stuff in storage. Basically just assigning a tote number and then list the contents. Use tags in that record so I can do a quick search like “ceramic pumpkins” and the search would return the bin number. Interesting idea. (See my earlier post from this am. ). Ever note lets you put in pictures, too.

I noticed on the floor somethings that you unpacked in previous videos that were waiting to go up stairs, still. Have you developed a system to put things back in their homes, while you declutter? I struggled with that, creating piles and not following through. good luck.
