My Unpopular book opinion is that Elliot needs more shelves for her books XD

I think it's sweet that you're wearing a jumper that says "cultivate empathy" as you're expressing your unpopular opinions :P It's like you're saying "Please be nice to me when I admit this..." haha!

I’m not certain not liking Maas is an unpopular opinion. I actually really like her and feel like I’m supposed to hang my head in shame for it.

I loved the shadow and bone books so much they really touched my heart. The series i didn't really like, it focust on the wrong thing and it didn't have the same effect.

Ooo good point about the manipulation trope. I hadn’t really noticed that until you mentioned it, but when I started thinking about it I have read a few books with that trope. Ashes and the star cursed king (my current read) kind of does that. I think Broadbent did a decent job executing that premise, however I wish the main character could have spent more time with her manipulator in the first book (serpent and wings of night ) to drive home the point in ashes.

I absolutely loved City of Nightmares. I got an arc from NetGalley and still think about it all the time. I can't wait for the next one!

I loved Ship of Magic, too. I was worried I wouldn't like the rest of the trilogy after I'd heard your thoughts. However, I really loved The Mad Ship. I don't think I've ever read book so fast. I'm desperate to get my hands on Ship of Destiny, think I'll enjoy it more having heeded your warnings!

6:48 the way I knew exactly what moment you were speaking of LOL and while I want her to end up with the OG ship guy, I really like the idea of her with flirty eyes even if its temporary because personality wise they really seem to go together lol. 11:29 I have been tired of fae since the trend started but they won't stop releasing copy and paste versions of fae romance books! I would understand if the fae were more lore like and interesting like in Wintersong by S. Jae Jones. 14:02 I was waiting for one of her books to show up lol!

I'm hooked on The Age of Uprising. Currently on Chaos, but slowed down the pace (trying to make it last) upon hearing the words 'cliff........' it'll be a fun re-reads before War next year!

Yes- the Age of Uprising (Engines of Empire) series is so good! I love that I have no idea what will happen in the last book. I also fully enjoyed The Last Tale of the Flower Bride.

I'm with you on Hobb. I read the Farseer trilogy and almost all of the Tawny Man trilogy and have horribly mixed feelings ever since. Never tried any of the Liveship Traders books because I do like Fitz, but I can't deal with that level of depressing hopelessness. I suppose I should have expected it, but man... I can't help but feel like I'm reading a max-angst fanfiction rewrite of the story we were meant to be told. At least I can understand why GRRM endorsed her books.

I don’t understand the hype behind “Fourth Wing” too. I’ve dnfed it at 25%. Probably I’m not the target audience. I’m very picky with fantasy romance (I like only a couple of tropes). Also, I don’t understand why Adolin is so popular too! It’s not that I don’t like him, but… I mean, he’s just…ok…😅 I’m probably thinking this because his character is not that developed like some others in The Stormlight Archive.

I didn’t think I would like the Audrey Rose series my Keri Maniscalco bc while I love murder mysteries I find many are not written well. But I am loving it. On the last book now. Book 2 has been my favorite but we will see if book 4 takes it.

Thank you! I feel so alone in my reaction to Ship of Destiny. I was loving the series, and I was left with such feelings of disappointment after Ship of Destiny. I can't even remember my good feelings from the first two books and I haven't wanted to pick up anything else by Hobb... It just makes me so sad even 6 months later😭 I liked City of Nightmares😃

I feel the same way about Adolin! I think he’s okay. I don’t love him. He’s fine lol but he’s my boyfriend’s favorite character and I’m like WHY?? 😂

I also really loved The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. I enjoyed the Shadow and Bone series. It was fun, but i don't think it was an improvement on the books. I felt it weirdly didn't feel in depth enough.

One of my toxic traits is absolutely BRISTLING when someone heaps praise on a book that I really don't think deserves it (i.e. Fourth Wing - I DNFed it!) 😅 I know it's bad and it's just people's opinions, but I can't help but go: "But there are so many better ones out there! Praise those!" 🤣 I did just start reading The Ninth Rain because of your channel though, and I am LOVING it!!

My unpopular opinion is that Maas and Hoover have churned out nothing but pure garbage.

I've read some of the School for good and evil. It's one of those books that I can tell that it's middle grade. And couldn't finish it because of it. I don't hate it, there is just some parts I don't like.

I've never read robin hobb but i kind of want to read liveship traders just to see why so many people love it. Don't really have that much of an interest in the other series in RotE series since i heard Farseer is written in first person and i find that style so jarring to read.

I’m glad this is a safe space bc I can’t stand Adolin either. I don’t like Shallan either so I’m glad when they’re paired up in the story bc it keeps them away from the characters I do like 😂 Which makes me sound horrible but it’s TRUE

It's nice to hear someone echo my own thoughts on Robin Hobb. I have the same problem. Her execution is the worst.

I must’ve just read Hobb by starting with the wrong book, because I’ve loved her books. I read The Fools Errand first not knowing it was a continuation of the Farseer Trilogy. If you ever did want to pick her back up I’d start there lol

Oh, boy! Atlas Six, huh? More like "Atlas Sticks" because that book just didn't click with me either! And don't even get me started on the window one. It was like watching paint dry, except the paint was telling a really dull story! I'd rather watch grass grow or watch a snail complete a marathon than endure that snooze-fest again!

The second part of my comment contains spoilers for The Stormlight Archive. I love Robin Hobb’s Liveship Traders series. I do understand what you’re saying about the 3rd book, but I still really loved the story anyway. I wasn’t that keen on Adolin at first. He seemed really immature and annoying. But it was the scenes where he made them lock him in a prison cell in solidarity with Kaladin, and when he developed his relationship with Maya that made me like him. When I first started The Stormlight Archive I thought Brandon Sanderson was going to make him into a miserable brat who would constantly be causing trouble for his father. I’m glad Brandon Sanderson didn’t go down that route.

I'm with you on Adolin. Every time I read the Stormlight Archive I ask myself why this character gets so much of my time. Reading him feels like homework or a boring workout on a treadmill. I just have to get through it and afterwards I'll be a better person.... right? My only guess is that he's there to ground the traumas so many of the other character arcs hinge on. Not just for contrast, but also as an invitation to us as readers to spend some of our time on a relatively bland, well-adjusted guy - a way for us to steer away from getting too maudlin about the rest of the characters?

I don't get Aedalin either. I hated the live ship books. I am 62 years young and been reading fantasy for over 40 years Sarah J Mass and the like are not for me.

I'm not into the grim dark sub-genre either. I like dark but so many times it just seems to exist for the sake of existing.

Late to this video but I’m glad I’m not the only one who isn’t into Adolin in Stormlight. He bothers me, yet I have friends who all like him and I just can’t see it lol

I loved the last tale of the flower bride too! Yeah Adolin is just not my thing. And SJM is just not a draw for me. Dune! I agree the movie was sooo good. The book was meh

My unpopular opinion would be about "The name of the Wind", I had to force myself to finish it.

I don't like the tradership series either. Haven't been able to continue the series. It's probably the audiobook narrator.

I absolutely adore the Dune series, the newer movie did well but the books are absolutely amazing to me 🍻.

I have just completed NK Jemisin's Broken Earth Series. I thought the books were extremely well written but I just never got into the plot or any particular character. I think a lot of people will like it. I would not say I hated it by any meeans but it was not for me. If Stormlight is Coffee then Broken Earth seemed like a Botique Tea that everyone expects me to say "Oh, that is Delightful". I will not. I am sure that is an unpopular opinion. On a lighter note. I am starting "Five Warrior Angels" this weekend. Thank you.

My unpopular opinion is that I don’t like Brandon Sanderson. It’s just not for me. I find the characters boring and the writing meh. I think he has interesting ideas but doesn’t execute them well.

I hear so many people disliking Adolin & I couldn’t disagree more! He was annoying in WoK, but he quickly became the heart of the series for me. He’s the Samwise Gamgee. While everyone else is losing themselves & falling into darkness, he’s the bright point that pulls everyone else back up. A series like Stormlight wouldn’t be the same without him!

Two movies stand out for me that I thought were much better than the books. They are The Shawshank Redemption and Cloud Atlas.

I feel you on grim dark. Personally I don't like dysintop stories in general but grim dark adds a new layer of yuck.

I also don't get hype Fourth Wing accumulated and overall response. The book and in general now series that will round up as trilogy is such a mix bag of everything existing, that is for some reason media rave and mashed together in a tonality that seems for people who are high on R stuff - and hit the spot apparently, it's just retelling and building world around borrowed pieces from other counterparts, one dimensionally and doing amazing job of the entire plot being wrapped around who is going to get into whose pants. Seriously what happened, for this to be qualified almost 5 star rated book by community - I am not talking about professional

I adore Robin Hobbs' books and character writing, but I had the exact same reaction to the resolution of *that* particular plot arc in Ship of Destiny, for that female character, and it surprised me that a female author had written it in that manner. And begrudgingly I concede and get frustrated by the rushed endings in each trilogy, it's what stops them for being complete 5 stars for me.

Wheel of Time is my unpopular opinion. I've tried to read it at least three times and can't make it beyond the second book. Something about it just rubs me the wrong way.

I don't really care about most of the characters in Stormlight. I love the books but I felt very little attachment to a majority of the characters.

Dune is actually a great answer to that last question. I do love the first 3 books, but they are really a slog to read. The dune move adaptations have been pretty poor up until the most recent one. Excited for the other Dune movies.

My potentially unpopular opinion is that I HATE the Witcher books so much. They bored me and had way too many unnecessary debates and expositions, damn.

I don't know whether this an unpopular opinion, but Tyreta's arc in engines of empire was just not believable. like you were literally a rebellious teenager 5 minutes ago. I am not buying this instant evolution!

I have no hate towards SJM, regardless of the drama she’s in. However I can simply not trust a person’s taste if they say they like any of her books. I will smile and nod and immediately classify anything they’ve said regarding books as “not relevant” in my brain. I will not voice it though, I try not to be rude. Same case with Haruki Murakami, although sometimes I do make a face with that one

Hi there Elliot. How are you doing? How is Luna Bear doing? She is so cute. I agree with you on Sarah J. Maas and on Robin Hobb. One book was enough for me. I couldn't relate to Fitz or that assassin at all. Just reading and listening to the book of short stories was enough for me. Right now I am obsessed with and reading and listening to the 19th volume of the Old Testament Index light novel series. I love ever trope in that series and the characters are terrific too. Here is another unpopular opinion, now that I think about it, I was not able to get into any of Jim Butchers or Samantha Shannon's books. I tried to listen to her stand alone about three maybe four times, and I hated her agenda and her ending. Even though I normally really like reading and listening to books about wizards, I could not keep Harry Dresden in my mind. Also, another unpopular opinion, is that I have tried about 3 to four different books by Guy Gavriel Kay, and once I put the book down after reading and listening to three chapters a day, I forgot everything in about five minutes. I do have the Engines of Empire series on my TBR pile, and i am thinking about listening to that sometime this summer. See ya.

Unpopular Opinion= Priory of the Orange tree is just OK. People that eat that book up have not read fantasy and are coming from romance books and now they have romance and dragons! The love story makes no sense, and they hype up the big bad guy from chapter one and kill him in 3 pages. gtfo

Apparently, thinking the new Dune movie was terrible is my unpopular opinion. Let's ditch pretty much anything that actually happened in the first half of the book for more shots of Paul staring moodily into the distance.
